Lunatic Soul - Through Shaded Woods

Monday, new week and time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Through Shaded Woods" is the seventh album by LUNATIC SOUL, the solo studio music project of the multi-talented creator, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mariusz Duda. As the lead singer of the hugely popular prog-rock band RIVERSIDE, LUNATIC SOUL was created in 2008 as an opportunity for Duda to explore musical territories outside the rock domain. Mariusz Duda is an incredibly creative man, with records under LUNATIC SOUL, RIVERSIDE and as solo "Mariusz Duda", five album the last two years, shows a musician who really can not sit still at all.

On "Through Shaded Woods" Duda extends his musical explorations to include dark Scandinavian and Slavic folk, referencing bands like HEILUNG or WARDRUNA. Following the heavily electronic soundscapes of previous albums "Fractured" and "Under The Fragmented Sky", "Through Shaded Woods" is completely devoid of electronics and is the first album in Duda's back catalogue on which he plays all instruments. Duda appears to have put the personal darkness that inspired his previous albums behind him, as more optimistic elements shine through in his new music.

The album "Through Shaded Woods" tells a story is about breaking free from the great beyond, about making your way to the other side, about a second chance and coming back to life and is an incredible journey from start to finish, where it's emerging into a more illuminated place musically as it progresses from the atmospheric introduction of "Navvie", folkish rhythms, chanting vocals, old-fashioned sounding instruments that creats almost hypnotic atmosphere, it’s instantly accessible. It follows up with the nine minute "The Passage", opens up in a more traditional way, finger picking acoustic guitar, neat and mournful vocals, beautifully builds up with the lowerstrings, halfway true the electric is switched on and the tune takes another turn with a more metallish sounding with vikings preparing for battle. The long walk "Through Shaded Woods" where the ancient forst breads in your neck along with the electric vocal vibrato, finger picking bassline and background whistling. Tribal rhythms opens up the melodic "Oblivion", a powerful piece where the vocal is currently beautiful. The marvelous vocals continues on the almost ten minute "Summoning Dance", finger picking guitar along with a powerful atmosphere of piano, an other string instruments, both acoustic and electric, a tune that is very progressive, catchy and danceable. The closing tune on the Vinyl and the normal CD is "The Fountain", a withdrawn beauty where the piano has the main part in a orchestral inviroment along with a mornful vocal, a perfect ending. The album is a real beauty, alot of heavy feelings, heartbreakes and dark moments. This is the most refined and richest sounding album he have done.

Sum: A dark Scandinavian and Slavic folk album at it's best. Highly Recomended.

As the title would suggest, the main color of "Through Shaded Woods" is dark green, at least for the Vinyl. In these incredibly trying times, I wish each one of us exactly that: healing, hope and freedom. The Deluxe version will give you 3 more tunes with 36 minutes more music. It was released November 13, 2020

Today's tune "Navvie", "Nav" (Polish spelling "Nawie") is the name for the Slavic underworld, and also denotes the souls of the dead, so it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to my music underworld. The "dancing souls" from the album artwork and the new videoclip make the world turn green. And green is the colour of healing, hope and freedom. Enjoy!

Blaze Of Perdition - With Madman's Faith

Existing at the forefront of the Polish black metal movement, BLAZE OF PERDITION returned with their fifth full-length, "The Harrowing Of Hearts" – their most urgent, refined, dynamic and accomplished work to date. Richly layered, it is also their most textured release, and they dive ever deeper into the themes they have been exploring since dropping their debut full-length in 2010, "Towards The Blaze Of Perdition".

BLAZE OF PERDITION was formed in 2007 by the guitarist XCIII. The band started its publishing activity by releasing a split album with PSEUDOGOD (Ru) "In The Void And Serpent, The Spirit Is One" in 2009. Although beginnings were strongly influenced by the so-called orthodox BM scene, with "Near Death Revelations", the band started looking for broader ways of expression, mixing their traditional style with different kind of influences from beyond the genre.

Line-up changed numerous times, but the core remained intact, with its general direction by XCIII and lyrical/conceptual themes by Sonneillon. Final shape of the songs, especially later ones, is an effect of mutual effort by all band members who offered their ideas and arrangements, although filtered by XCIII to keep the music consistent.

November 2nd 2013 turned out to be tragic. Car accident took life of the bass player 23 and left Sonneillon and Vizun (drummer) severely injured. Unfortunately, Sonneillon couldn't continue any live activity due to his serious health condition, but remained a core member responsible for the studio vocals, lyrics, graphic design and PR.

Line Up:
S.: Vocals / Lyric
XCIII: Guitar / Lyrics / Songwriting
M.R.: Guitar
DQ: Drums

BLAZE OF PERDITION released their fifth full-length album "The Harrowing Of Hearts" on February 14, 2020. This time the focus is on the occult, satanism, Luciferianism. They put us in Christ's shoes on a metaphorical journey into one's soul to face and come to terms with whatever it holds, very close to the Jungian concept of shadow integration mentioned here and there on our previous album.

Working with the same producer they've been teaming with since 2013 and with artwork designed by Izabela Grabda, every aspect of "The Harrowing Of Hearts" has come together as intended, and with Metal Blade now behind them the band is now ready to work their asses off to spread their name even further. It's also safe to say the members of BLAZE OF PERDITION don't feel like they have anything to prove going into 2020.

Today's tune "With Madman's Faith" is taken from the band's latest album "The Harrowing Of Hearts", The tune tells a story of doubt and hesitation, and asks if any pursuits for wisdom bring us serenity and closure or are just taunting rabbit holes with no end or destination at all - but it also hints that it's not the destination but the journey itself that is what is ultimately important. enjoy!

Dopelord - Sign Of The Devil

Monday, new week. It's time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Sign Of The Devil" is the fourth full-length by the Polish doom/stoner veterans DOPELORD. A band that was founded in late 2010 in Lublin. Smoking, rehearsing and touring. Their main inspirations are old movies, 70s music, and magical herbs.

This follow-up to 2017’s great album "Children Of The Haze" offers a pretty similar trip in the traditional stoner doom world. There is one difference in the latest effort comparing to the previous releases, the songwriting has increased a lot and makes "Sign Of The Devil" as DOPELORDs finest release so far.

36 minutes is what "Sign Of The Devil" clocks in at, that divided into 6 tunes, lights up pretty quickly that the songs hold a rather moderate long play. Tune low, play slow and heavy, a typical signature for a band like this. The tunes take some time and let the demon slowly get up close, and when the time is right, beat their sharp claws hard and deep in your human body.

The album opens up with a thick bassline in "The Witching Hour Bell", the tune has a driven drony line with clean vocals, the same formula is used in "World Beneath Us" and "Heathen", the later with a more melodic vocal vibe. The filthy blackened "Hail Satan" has some mixed vocals between harsh and clean, it also contains some incredible riffs and it's very groovy, psychedelic and ends with a nice synth part which gives the tune a cool facelift. The excellent titled "Doom Bastards" falls just off of the ten-minute mark, heavy and slow spacey leads that after a while falls into the heavy and earth-cracking riffs in a bed of roses with a devil trying to recruit you to the other side. The album closes with the punky and speedy "Headless Decapitator" that really shows that they can leave the slow pace and get a bit electrified. So get ready to shake your overweight body to this. DOPELORD has really managed to create an interesting and well-made experience that contains earth-cracking riffs, low tuned doom to headbanging rock. At least Satan will wave his hands high for this release.

The amazing album artwork that captures all the classic doom influences, like kings, magic, darkness, religion, plague, and deaths is made by Fabian Staniec (Pathogen Tattoo)

Line-up:
Piotr Zin aka Klusek - Bass, Vocals
Paweł Mioduchowski aka Miodek - Guitar, Vocals
Grzegorz Pawłowski Mroku - Guitar
Piotr Ochociński - Drums

Today's tune "Doom Bastards" is taken from "Sign Of The Devil", the album was released March 10, 2020. Enjoy!

Behemoth - The Satanist

"The Satanist", is the new video from Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH.

The video, directed by Andrzej Dragan, is another ambitious and visually striking piece of art from the band that’s known for videos that remain a cut above standard metal music videos.

Behemoth front man Nergal comments:

"BEHEMOTH has always been about breaking boundaries, taboos, leaving its comfort zone and thinking out of the box! Here we go again with the brand new video from us. It’s already a fourth official clip off "The Satanist"… The concept came from the director, Andrzej Dragan. It’s situated in modern Warsaw in the present times. It’s where the carnal world meets the unknown… it’s where the ZOS meets KIA… It’s where SACRUM is raped by PROFANUM…"

Director Andrzej Dragan adds:

"This is a picture of alienation and ultimate rejection of an over sensitive character by an anonymous city."

I really adore when a band put so much effort in the creation of a Video. BEHEMOTH have always created something different, they stand out from the masses and consistently creates visually stunning and provoked Videos.

In "The Satanist" a confused woman walks the streets of Warsaw, Poland. The woman is filled with fear and confusion, almost that she panics when she tries to get forward in a world that is distorted.

Today's tune is the title track from the tenth album "The Satanist", Released February 3, 2014 The video is Directed and Produced by Andrzej Dragan.
