Clutch - Red Alert

Maryland maulers CLUTCH have returned with new single "Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone)", taken from their upcoming thirteenth studio album.

The tune, which sees the band poke fun at nonsensical sci-fi conspiracists, arrives with a cinematic video directed by David Brodsky.

CLUTCH is an American rock band from Germantown, Maryland. Since its formation in 1991, the band line-up has included Tim Sult (lead guitar), Dan Maines (bass), Jean-Paul Gaster (drums), and Neil Fallon (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards). To date, CLUTCH has released twelve studio albums, and several rarities and live albums. Since 2008, the band has been signed to their own record label, Weathermaker Music.

Frontman Neil Fallon explains:
"Early in 2021, I learned the Boss Metal Zone pedal schematic was being presented as “proof” that the Covid-19 vaccine had an electronic component to communicate with 5G cellular networks. It was, of course, nonsense. It sounded like a Philip K. Dick premise. I didn’t want to write a song specific to Covid-19 vaccines, so I went with the Philip K. Dick angle (again). “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” came to mind (replicants, in particular, representing what is real and not real, or is there a difference at all?). The video makes no secret that this is an homage to Philip K. Dick and a future where we have distortion coursing through our veins."

Drummer Jean-Paul Gaster adds:
"'Red Alert (Boss Metal Zone)' is one of the faster cuts on our forthcoming album. It kicks in and hits like a freight train. The intensity of the recording reminds me of our live shows. This song cooks, and I can’t wait to play it on tour!"

Mountainwolf - Electric Groove

Electric groove rock trio, MOUNTAINWOLF, formed in Annapolis, Maryland in early 2012 and released their debut album "The Silk Road" in 2015. Their sophomore album, "Absinthe Moon" was released 2017. In 2019 they did a joint with ROBOT JURASSIC and released a split EP with two tunes each.

Black Lung - Gone

BLACK LUNG emerged from a brutal Baltimore winter back in 2014, and from that emergence they arose victorious, wielding a trademark Maryland Doom-influenced balance of melody and power. With that vital underpinning, Adam Bufano and Elias Schutzman (founding members of THE FLYING EYES), along with multi-instrumentalist Dave Cavalier, crafted a sound heavy on volume that pushed hard into experimental territory. In lieu of a bass guitarist, the three opted for an unusual setup with a sonic palette defined by a multitude of amps, drop-tuning, and copious effects.

After releasing BLACK LUNGs self-titled debut and being named "Best New Band" by the Baltimore City Paper, they embarked on their first European tour in 2015, including a performance at the Rockpalast Crossroads Festival on German national television. Their sophomore album, "See The Enemy", was produced by J. Robbins (guitarist and frontman for post-punk icons JAWBOX; producer for THE SWORD and CLUTCH) and released in 2016, with a subsequent European tours hitting Freak Valley Festival and Desert Fest Belgium, alongside the likes of GRAVEYARD, DEAD MEADOW and ALL THEM WITCHES. After several years of touring and songwriting, BLACK LUNG is back with their most ambitious work yet, "Ancients", produced by Frank "The Punisher" Marchand (producer of THE OBSESSEDs "Sacred"). The title has a double-edged meaning, paying homage to the ancient powers of the earth while rejecting the ancient ideals of men who want to drag society back into the past. Misery Index - New Salem

Baltimore, Maryland, death metal outfit MISERY INDEX has released two tunes from their upcoming album is titled "Rituals of Power" and will hit streets on March 8 through Season of Mist.

The album was recorded last year with producer and engineer Erik Rutan (MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE) and subsequently mixed by Will Putney (PIG DESTROYER, COUNTERPARTS).

MISERY INDEX has announced new European dates together with WORMROT and TRUTH CORRODED in the spring of 2019. The "Rituals Of Power: Phase 1" tour sees the band traveling through eight countries with a final curtain at the Turock in Essen, Germany before the festival season begins.

An adult man talks to a boy, maybe his son, about events that occurred 20 years ago. Now add visions of Jane Fonda as Barbarella, ray guns, and tractor beams. It's one of "Book Of Bad Decisions"' signature songs and it includes a horn section that truly turns this song into weaponized funk.

The Obsessed - Sacred

New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

The mythos of THE OBSESSED returns with the fantastic milestone "Sacred". It's their first studio album in over 20 years. Led by legendary frontman Scott "Wino" Weinrich (SAINT VITUS, SPIRIT CARAVAN to name a few).

THE OBSESSED originally formed in 1976 and released three seminal stoner / doom albums in the early 90's, including "The Church Within" which has been hailed as one of the important records in the genre's history. Now, after reforming in 2016, the band has returned with renewed energy and purpose, sounding heavier and more relevant than ever before. The lineup consist of Wino’s longtime friend and former road crew member Brian Costantino (Drums) and Reid Raley (Bass & Vocals) and of course Scott "Wino” Weinrich (Guitar & Vocals).

"Sacred" kicks on with a remake of "Sodden Jackal", that was released on their 1999s album "Incarnate", here the tune have gotten a more deeper sound, much heavier and doomier, more powerful than ever, Wino's vocal is clearer and have a more punch. The tune got a new life indeed, a very good remake. "Punk Crusher" has a more classic hard rock approach, with a thundering chorus. The title song and today's tune "Sacred" has a more typical Wino layout, melodic and heavy. The record have a good mix between the styles of "Classic Rock", all from the light punkish "Haywire" and "Be The Night", the rocker "Razor Wire" to a more punchy radio rock friendly "Perseverance Of Futility" or the instrumental jam-oriented "Cold Blood". The THIN LIZZY cover "It's Only Money" is real heavy rocker were Wino sounds like an old Phil Lynott, cool version. The catchy, melancholic charm of "Stranger Things" is one if the hightlights with it's bluesy doom/rock groove. There are two bonus tracks on the deluxe version of the LP, the awesome nine minutes doomy "On So Long" with a amazing guitar work and the catchy classic rocker "Crossroader".

Misery Index - Conjuring the Cull

New week, time to crown the "Record Of The Week". A really hard week of jobs has passed and a new crazy week is coming. Order to cope with this, some utter deathgrind that tears out a part of your brain that you can never reclaim.

Record Of The Week is "The Killing Gods", the fifth studio album by American deathgrind band MISERY INDEX. It was released on May 23, 2014, by Season of Mist. The first five tracks of the album are all part of one collective song called "Faust".

Adrien Begrand wrote for Decibel that Misery Index's "hybrid of death metal and grindcore hasn't lost a step at all". He praised the album's "taut and aggressive" music, along with its "clever use of melody" and Jason Netherton's "commanding vocals". Bradley Zorgdrager of Exclaim! said that Misery Index have "focused their craft", and found that the band "proudly embraces" melody on this album. He described the album as "unrelentingly fast, unabashedly heavy and unequivocally the best album yet from an already great band." Sammi Chichester of Revolver described how, during the opening suite of songs, Misery Index "split their blast beats with emotionally-driven breakdowns and melodic guitar solos". She also said the album "might initially irk diehards, but should ultimately leave them far from miserable".

 

That it took four years to create a new album is too long for a band capable of producing such consistent and exciting material. The album is an intense, expansive and loud. It's filled up with enough blasting to counteract the crunching grooves in a brilliant way to make this a hugely satisfying record. It will rape your ears like nothing they have accomplished before in their career.


To make a short summery: The Killing Gods is an essential purchase for all death/grind fans of all ages.

Misery Index is an American deathgrind band formed in 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, by Jason Netherton on vocals and bass guitar, Mike Harrison on vocals and guitar, and Kevin Talley on drums. From 2006–2010, its line-up consisted of Netherton on vocals and bass guitar, Sparky Voyles on guitar, Mark Kloeppel on vocals and guitar, and Adam Jarvis on drums. In 2010, Voyles left the band and was replaced by Darin Morris.
