"The Pusher" is a rock song written by Hoyt Axton, made popular by the 1969 movie Easy Rider which used STEPPENWOLFs version to accompany the opening scenes showing drug trafficking.
The lyrics of the song distinguish between a dealer in drugs such as marijuana—who "will sell you lots of sweet dreams"—and a pusher of hard drugs such as heroin—a "monster" who doesn't care "if you live or if you die"
The song was made popular when rock band STEPPENWOLF released the song on their 1968 album "Steppenwolf".
Organist Goldy McJohn, who recorded the original STEPPENWOLF version, said the version that appears on Early STEPPENWOLF performed by "Sparrow" (pre-STEPPENWOLF moniker) in 1967 at the Matrix came about when singer John Kay and Jerry Edmonton were late for a performance:
Nick and Mars and me started that long version of "the Pusher". John and Jerry's flight was late one night at the Avalon Ballroom, so we started and then we perfected it at the "Arc" in Sausalito on New Year's Eve in 1966.
STEPPENWOLF is a Canadian-American rock band, prominent from 1968 to 1972. The group was formed in late 1967 in Los Angeles by lead singer John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton (all formerly in Jack London & the Sparrows from Oshawa, Ontario). Guitarist Michael Monarch and bass guitarist Rushton Moreve were recruited by notices placed in Los Angeles-area record and musical instrument stores.
Enjoy today's tune, last one for this season, we will take a few weeks off and take a trip, cya all in August.

KULTUR SHOCK is a Seattle-based gypsy punk band which specializes in mixing music like rock, metal and punk with traditional Balkan music. Even if the style is impossible to define- many critics throw SOAD, GOGOL BORDELLO, MANU CHAO, GANG OF FOUR, THE POGUES, Balkan folk music, punk rock, heavy metal as references to it, but nothing can prepare the unsuspecting listener to what is going to come out of their home stereo speakers or what's going to happen to them during the 90 minutes live shows that the band is known for. In two words- the description is a mix of all of the above in a seamless new sound, that takes the listener on a trip and never lets go.
Active since 1996, KULTUR SHOCK members hail from Bosnia, Bulgaria, and the United States. The band has performed over 1000 shows throughout the United States and Europe.
The band defines itself as "a live band of blue-collar immigrants".

"We Rock" is a classic rocker taken from the second studio album "The Last In Line" by the American heavy metal band Dio, released on July 2, 1984.
The song is a really classic among rockers and many cover versions have been made. The all-star metal band METAL ALLEGIANCE is one of them, a great cover from a great gang of musicans and singers. The video consisting of a rotating cast of musicians like Mark Osegueda, Chris Jericho, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Alissa White-Gluz, Chuck Billy and Steve "Zetro" Souza, Lead & Rhythm Guitars: Alex Skolnick Bass: David Ellefson Drums: Mike Portnoy Additional Lead Guitar: Andreas Kisser, Phil Demmel & Gary Holt.
Brought together by METAL ALLEGIANCE principal partner Mark Menghi, the project's original material came together from the creative minds of David Ellefson of MEGADETH, Mike Portnoy of THE WINERY DOGS, and Alex Skolnick from TESTAMENT, alongside Menghi. The four writers then reached out through their metal Rolodexes to a diverse lineup of performers, each adding their own personal musical stamp to the collection of nine original songs.
Today's tune "We Rock" is taken from the self-titled debut by METAL ALLEGIANCE, enjoy!
The five-piece, Helsinki based heavy metal band BEAST IN BLACK was founded by Anton Kabanen soon after he had parted ways with BATTLE BEAST in 2015. By the end of 2015 the band played their first gig as opening act for NIGHTWISH. The making of "Berserker" was already in progress back then and it was completed in summer 2017. A deal was signed with Nuclear Blast almost immediately after the completion of the album.
From left to right:
Kasperi Heikkinen - guitars
Sami Hänninen - drums
Yannis Papadopoulos - vocals
Anton Kabanen - guitars
Mate Molnar - bass
"Berserker" continues in the style of Anton's previously composed works which include the first three BATTLE BEAST albums. One of the essential themes on this debut album is the Japanese manga and anime "Berserk". Listen to today's tune "Blind And Frozen", where you get a super catchy, power metal, melodic 80's synth pop tune. As NIGHTWISH’s Tuomas Holopainen says about "Berserker", there’s nothing but a great album to expect: “You have to be mentally insane to not love this album.”
"Berserker" was produced by Anton in his Sound Quest Studio. The album’s artwork marks the return of the collaboration between Anton and Roman Ismailov who was the original illustrator and graphic artist for BATTLE BEAST.
Today's tune "Blind And Frozen", taken off the debut album "Berserker", a enjoy!

ORDER OF THE EMPEROR is a hard rock band hailing from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Influenced by rock legends JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH and THIN LIZZY, they have witnessed the decline of rock music since the 1980s with dismay. ORDER OF THE EMPEROR is groovy hard rock with classic twin guitars and melodic raw vocals, modern touch of classic rock.
Over the past two years, ORDER OF THE EMPEROR has played at various locations throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. They shared the stage with ELLE BANDITA, DOOL, HE IS LEGEND, DEATH ALLEY, TRANSPORT LEAGUE and DeWOLFF at festivals such as Baroeg Open Air, the Liberation Festival of Zuid-Holland, Wallenpop and the Eendrachtfestival and in venues such as Rotown, Kavka, the Kroepoekfabriek and the Pit. In the autumn of 2016, the band won both the 1st prize and the public award of the SENA Grand Prix of Rotterdam.
In the spring of 2016, the band recorded its first LP "Behold". The album was released on October 1, 2016 on a sold out lightship in the port of Rotterdam.
Today's tune "As the World Burns", taken from the debut album "Behold", enjoy.
Monday, a new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week" (Last one for this "Season" six month period, back again in August).
"Lucifer II" is the second full-length album by the Swedish doom rockers LUCIFER,
The band was formed in Berlin in 2014, after a wake of an abrupt split with her former band THE OATH, Johanna Sadonis created LUCIFER with the aim of channeling her love of the dark and bewitching heavy rock of ‘70s. Inspired by everyone from BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE and BLUE ÖYSTER CULT to STEPPENWOLF, HEART and FLEETWOOD MAC, she teamed up with legendary former CATHEDRAL guitarist Gaz Jennings to conjure a sound that owed plenty to her collaborator’s doom metal roots while also tapping into the untamed rambunctiousness of the post-Sabbath set. The result was an eponymous debut album that received widespread praise and media attention: the first fruits, you might say, of a rapidly expanding vision.
Although still recognizable as the band that released "Lucifer I" in 2015, even if "Lucifer II" is a very different beast from its predecessor. "Lucifer I" was a lightly stoned, doom rock sounding album and "Lucifer II" raised up to a full-blown rocker that screams 60’s and early 70’s rock. Recorded in the summer of 2017 at Nicke Anderson’s studio The Honk Palace, in Stockholm. The album was recorded as a trio, Nicke played drums, bass and half the guitar parts, Robin Tidebrink as the lead guitarist and Johanna Sadonis behind the microphone, then the band added Martin Nordin (DEAD LORD) as a second lead guitarist and Alex Mayr on bass to its current live lineup. The album was mixed by Swedish producer Ola Ersfjord (TRIBULATION, PRIMORDIAL) at Cuervo Recording Services in Madrid. "Lucifer II" was released on Friday, July 6, 2018, through Century Media.
The album starts up with a really catchy opening riff of "California Son", followed by the half paced beauty "Dreamer", great flow in the melody, beautiful vocals by Johanna, same goes with the great slow rocker "Before The Sun", the guitar riffing intro in "Phoenix" gives me flashes of Ace Frehley's prime time, lovely. A cool cover of ROLLING STONES "Dancing With Mr. D", where we get the forgotten cowbell in the intro, kinky guitar riffs, brave vocals a tune that they make to their own. It follows up with a "Reaper On Your Heels", "Eyes In The Sky" with it's heavy riffing and melody along with spiritful vocals etches into the brain. "Aton" starts up with some clever riffing, intensive vocals with a great dynamics. The album closes up with the epic doomy piece "Faux Pharaoh". After a few spins with "Lucifer II" over the weekend I have found out that I really like the change in sound and band, the album sounds more complete, it's fun to listen to, the tunes are all well crafted and productions is superb. Well done LUCIFER!
Sum: "Lucifer II" is a well-rounded trip back to the Magic Carpet Ride.
Today's tune "Faux Pharaoh" is taken from "Lucifer II", enjoy!
Sunday, time for a classic. "Nightjar" is a tune by the English rock band NECROMANDUS, hailing from Cumberland, United Kingdom.
They were formed in 1970 and were discovered by Tony Iommi of BLACK SABBATH in 1972. After recording one album in 1973, they split up. The album was not released until 1999. In 2007 they were mentioned by Classic Rock magazine as a "lost pioneer" of heavy metal. Author Ian Christe has cited the band as one of the earliest doom metal groups.
"Nightjar" is found on the only album "Orexis of Death", recorded in 1973 under the supervision of BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, but was shelved due to Barry Dunnery's departure from the band and wasn't released until 1999. The album was re-released in 2005 under the name "Orexis of Death Plus..." and included two unreleased bonus tracks. It was also reissued in 2010 in its standard form, but with their Live album included.
The only surviving member of NECROMANDUS is Frank Hall. Dennis McCarten (born 1950) died of a kidney illness in December 2004, and Barry Dunnery (the elder brother of Francis Dunnery) died on 29 May 2008 from cancer, at the age of 56. The date of Bill Branch's death is currently unknown (William J Branch was born 21 Mar 1950, died Jun 1995).
In 2016 the band has been reformed with a new line-up to record a new album, that is based on some recordings band made in 1975. It is was released 2017.
In 1984 Frank & Bill from NECROMANDUS joined HAMMERHEAD in the studio to record a deliberately simplified version of "Nightjar"(originally entitled "Don't Look Down Frank"), they still enjoy including this song in their set, this version was filmed in June 2012 at the Snooty Fox in Wakefield.
"One Heart One Soul", the new video from U.D.O., the German metal band led by former ACCEPT frontman Udo Dirkschneider. The song is taken from U.D.O.'s upcoming album, "Steelfactory", which will be released on August 31 via AFM.
According to a press release:, "Steelfactory" sees "U.D.O. return to their core competence, clearly influenced by their past shows with DIRKSCHNEIDER, the songs in their rousingly simple straightness have a hymn character, as it is only known from the past."
The press release continues: "'Steelfactory' has become a timeless metal album and thus the impressive statement of a master of his craft. With its earthy, punchy and handmade sound — with the participation of the Danish producer Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT) — 'Steelfactory' meets the nerve of the time, which may be triggered again since the successful DIRKSCHNEIDER tour worldwide."
After more than 40 years in the business and with a renowned breakthrough in the early 80’s with ACCEPT behind him, as well as several million records sold worldwide, Udo Dirkschneider is not only one of the biggest rock legends in the business, but he’s also someone who has seen a lot.
Dirkschneider has spent the last two years touring under the DIRKSCHNEIDER banner, performing classic ACCEPT songs for the last time. The trek, which was originally supposed to conclude with the band's North American run in January/February 2017, has now been extended through the fall of 2018.
In addition to Udo and his son Sven (drums), the DIRKSCHNEIDER and U.D.O. bands include bassist Fitty Wienhold and guitarist Andrey Smirnov.

GHOST and CANDLEMASS version of METALLICAs "Enter Sandman" is a marvelous piece, so enjoy today's cover!
THE BAD LIGHT is a Delta Sludge/Americana trio from Santa Cruz, California. A band that suits great as it's the 4th of July, so happy independents day all Americans.
Initially forming as a jamming duo in 2009 of just guitar and drums, this group would eventually work in a female vocalist into their music. Inspired by an eclectic range of influences such as raw blues, psych, and heavy rock, THE BAD LIGHT alchemize basic elements to create a distinctive sound. In one critic’s words, they are “grounded in meditation while remaining heavy and melodic.”
With Edu Cerro of Santa Fe, Argentina, on guitar/vocals, Dana Shepard of St. Johns, Newfoundland, on drums and Celeste Deruisa of Santa Cruz, California on vocals, they’re sonically rooted to each members’ respective homelands.
Largely performing in their native town as a support to many big stoner/doom/sludge touring acts, THE BAD LIGHT has gained some notoriety among the stoner rock circle despite rarely performing outside of Santa Cruz.
Today's tune "Goodshit" is taken from the split EP "Bad Tuna". The Video clip is the first time they are playing this tune live on May 5th, 2017 at The Blue Lagoon in Santa Cruz, CA. Enjoy!
For a band who traffic in measured, unhurried riffage, Richmond’s WINDHAND have moved awfully quickly over the last few years. The bands approach to doom metal is as seductive as it is crushing. A big wall of doomish noise and a vulnerable but yet so crushing vocals by Dorthia Cottrell makes WINDHANDs concept unique and Viable.
WINDHAND begin a new era of gloom and grief and team up with Virginia’s Satan’s Satyrs for an amp-worshipping, acid trip from hell on an split EP, that was released in February 16th, 2018 via Relapse. A new full-length album is in the pipeline for late 2018, in the mean time we enjoy the smoldering gloom and grief in the lead single is "Old Evil".
After shaking the world by the neck last year's monster album "Amber Galactic", which also got selected for "Record Of The Week" one year ago, it also snapped the 5th position on the best albums 2017. Really good for a bunch of Swedish old school rockers that turns back to their own roots in the music making, could say about 1975 and 1985 where bands like JOURNEY, TOTO, STEELY DAN, SUPERTRAMP, REO SPEEDWAGON among others had their primetime then.
Now it's time for the fourth album "Sometimes The World Ain't Enough" to make some place in the spotlight. The album follows in the same steps as the 2017's "Amber Galactic". Twelve songs in fifty-eight minutes of glorious AOR. The album opens up with the catchy high tempo tune "This Time" and a happy smile turns on. Follows up by "Turn To Miami", a tune that well could be been picked from the soundtrack to the movie "Miami Vice", a melodic piece with a catchy chorus. There are a few disco-heavy tunes, like "Paralyzed", "Pretty Thing Closing In" with its funky strut and "Winged and Serpentine" that will shake your body and get you up and dance. The title tune "Sometimes The World Ain't Enough" have a really inspiring vocal, a tune that well could be the title tune for a James Bond movie. "Moments Of Thunder" waves hands with TOTO and "Speedwagon" and "Barcelona" is two power pop tunes that follow up by the bombastic "Lovers In The Rain". The album closes with a love full nine minutes epic beauty "The Last Of The Independent Romantics", a melodic piece with incredible vocals and a guitar riff that is just amazing.
The album was released on June 29, 2018, via Nuclear Blast. The album was again produced by the band themselves and was recorded at Handsome Hard Music / Larsson Music Studio as well as Nordic Sound Lab in Skara, Sweden. Mixing duties were taken on by the band's guitarist/percussionist Sebastian Forslund and mastering was done by Thomas ”Plec” Johansson at The Panic Room. The band will hit the road, see the tour dates below and make sure you catch them live.
Sum: "Sometimes The World Ain’t Enough" is the best soundtrack for this summer, an infectiously fun record to play.
Today's tune "Lovers In The Rain", taken from the new album "Sometimes The World Ain't Enough", enjoy!

"Beginners Guide To Suicide" is the last tune on ORANGE GOBLINs sixth full-length album "Healing Through Fire", released in 2007. This was their first album released on Sanctuary Records, and their first not to be released by Rise Above Records. Ben Ward said of the album:
"It's not a concept album at all, but we are using the theme of the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire that followed for a lot of lyrical and musical influence. It's definitely the strongest material we have written".
A limited number of copies came with a bonus DVD. The DVD features a live set recorded at The Mean Fiddler in London on December 16, 2006 and also includes some interviews and studio footage.
The art for the record incorporated the Latin phrase, written on the outer edge, "Nam ut quisque est vir optimus, ita difficillime esse alios improbos suspicatur." This phrase is from the writings of Cicero, a Roman orator, and can be translated as, "The more virtuous any man is, the less easily does he suspect others to be vicious."
ORANGE GOBLIN are a space rock band from London, England. Formed in 1995, the band's lineup currently consists of singer Ben Ward, guitarist Joe Hoare, bassist Martyn Millard, and drummer Chris Turner.
Today's tune "Beginners Guide To Suicide" is filmed at Desertfest London 2015 - from The Electric Ballroom, Camden Friday 24th April. With guests Jonny "Honkeyfinger" Halifax (JONNY HALIFAX & THE HOWLING TRUTH) on slide and mouth organ and, out of shot, Harry Armstrong (THE EARLS OF MARS) on keys. Played live for the first time at Desertfest and a part of OG's 20th anniversary celebrations.
