Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, NATURAL CHILD are a trio whose good and greasy style is informed by Southern rock, vintage country-rock, laid-back Laurel Canyon sounds, '70s-style boogie, a dash of hard rock, and most likely a careful balance of liquor and bong hits (the bookmark icon for the band's official blog is a tiny pot leaf, and their lyrics often confirm their fondness for recreational marijuana).
NATURAL CHILD were formed in 2009 by bassist Wez Traylor and drummer Zack Martin, who had just left another Nashville-based band, the TURBO FRUITS. Singer and guitarist Seth Murray previously played in THE HORRIBLY WRONG while living in Bloomington, Indiana.
NATURAL CHILD released their first 7" within months of their first practice, and in their first two years, they managed to play over 200 shows per annum. In 2010, NATURAL CHILD brought out a cassette-only EP, "Bodyswitchers". In 2012, they signed on with the respected California indie Burger Records, releasing two records that same year, "For The Love Of The Game" and "Hard In Heaven". Followed by 2014 "Dancin' With Wolves", 2016 "Okey Dokey" and the self titled "Natural Child" in 2020.
Today's tune "Out In The Country" taken from the album "Dancin' With Wolves", the Video is made for Rollo & Grady Sessions on May 14, 2013. Directed by Conrad Heinz & Josh Ball of Ender Productions. Audio Capture, Mix & Master - Jarrett Bostich.
Yesterday did the American country rock man Sturgill Simpson visit Stockholm and Sweden for a show at Vasateatern. A friend and I were there at this small and cozy place with an audience of 900 souls (sold out), he entertained us for approx 130 minutes and played 21 tunes, check the setlist below.
The 41-year-old from Kentucky has certainly never known himself as a traditionalist, on the contrary. His as wide-eyed as the intrinsic view of what is usually called Americana is a big part of the point of what he does, and the reason why he now has such a large audience. I really like that he dear to take out some wideness in his creation around the typical Americana that most artists work around these days. When he released his fourth studio album "Sound & Fury" on September 27th, 2019 he got very mixed reviews from good to bad. Yes, it's different, it's very distorted, guitar-wise but the tunes are pretty cool. Check out today's tune and you get the drift.
So about the show. The first part of the concert was dedicated to the material of his latest release, from the first to the last tune. It sounded really good live, got a bit more of everything, the sound was really good next to FOH (Sound Guy position). The second part, as he referred it to the old shit! Were the older tunes, taken from his previous three albums, all tunes rocked marvelous live. Sturgill Simpson is a brilliant songwriter, an excellent guitar player, and a very sensitive singer. Some great tunes were played along with some well-made covers of WHEN IN ROME and Willie Nelson.
The only bad thing I can say about this show is the light on the stage. It was red, all the time, I mean, nothing else besides the color RED. Pretty boring to hear good music in red. The lighting guy on the tour has to have the most boring, non-creative tour ever, haha.
Sturgill Simpson still have a few European dates, go and see it if you can. Later on, he and Tyler Childers are teaming up for the US leg of the "A Good Look’n Tour". The tour begins February 21 in Birmingham, AL and concludes May 24 in Louisville, KY, see all the dates below.

A day that we all take care of our mothers all around the globe.
My mother is not alive, but I have make sure that my kids have taken care of their mother and my wife.
As we always do, we dedicate this day to all mothers and we play a classic tune in her favor. My kid's mother loves METALLICA, so let's pick a tune from them.
"Mama Said" is a country-rock ballad by American heavy metal band METALLICA from their sixth album "Load", with music and lyrics by James Hetfield (music credited to Hetfield/Ulrich). The lyrics represent a man or boy who is learning to find his own way in life away from his mother. The song is directly written about Hetfield's difficult relationship with his mother, who died of cancer when he was 16 years old.
The song is a departure from METALLICAs usual heavy metal sound; its genre-blending style incorporates country, blues, and hard rock. "Mama Said" begins with acoustic guitar and, during the chorus, becomes flush with a country-flavored vocal harmony and steel guitar. Toward the end, the song features power chords on electric guitar.
This is a song for James Hetfield's mother, who died of cancer when he was young. The song talks about his regrets of not being able to spend more time with her and how he hopes that she will still love him when he sees her again ("Mama now I'm coming home. I'm not all you wished of me. A mother's love for her son unspoken, help me be. Yeah I took your love for granted and all the things you said to me. I need your arms to welcome me. But a cold stone is all I see."), sad story but hey, he misses his mother and so do I.
"Mama Said" has never been featured as a part of METALLICAs live setlist. Hetfield has performed this song live, however, using a single steel-stringed acoustic guitar with no drum or bass accompaniment. He also performed it along with country singer Jessi Colter on CMT's Outlaw Concert, along with Hetfield's cover of Waylon Jennings's "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand."
Who knows, they might play this tune live during their tour, check all the dates below.
Enjoy today's tune!

Scott H. Biram aka The Dirty Old One Man Band (born April 4, 1974) is an American blues, punk, country, heavy metal musician, and record producer. He is primarily known as one of the prominent musicians of the One Man Band musical genre. He has appeared on national television shows such as NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and performed in prestigious and legendary venues such as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, CBGB in New York City and The Fillmore West in San Francisco, California. His music has been featured in many American television shows and films. He has also appeared as himself in several films and documentaries. The Dirty Old One Man Band has continuously toured in The U.S.A., Canada, and Europe since 1998. He shares his birth date appropriately with blues legend Muddy Waters.
Today's tune “Trainwrecker” is a steel-jawed and fully-cocked musical madness. The tune comes from Scott Biram’s most recent released called "The Bad Testament" via the devil-may-care renegade label Bloodshot Records bred on the dirty streets of Chicago.
So put your big boy pants on and give it an spin, or otherwise duck and cover because the shit is about to get real.
American Southern rock/country rock band BLACKBERRY SMOKE with their latest album "Like An Arrow", that was released on October 14, 2016, came in the mail a few days ago, yeah im out late but that's how things can be sometims, haven't really got the time to give it a spin but will do it in the upcoming days, so let's play one for now.
The lineup consists of Charlie Starr (lead vocals, guitar), Richard
Turner (bass, vocals), Brit Turner (drums), Paul Jackson (guitar,
vocals), and Brandon Still (keyboards).
Today's tune "Sunrise In Texas" is taken from the bands new album "Like An Arrow".
The song has been a part of the band's set for several years, and the time felt right to finally record it.
"Sunrise In Texas has been a fan favourite for a long time, so we are really happy that we got to include it on Like An Arrow," says singer Charlie Starr. "Thanks to director Jamie Chamberlin's unique and creative vision, I think the video is really something special too."
Georgia based BLACKBERRY SMOKE keeps up the traditions of Southern rock/Country rock alive. They have featured here on Tune Of The Day a few times already and is a good complement to the hard and pretty messy contribution that I usually publish.
BLACKBERRY SMOKE have got my heart, I really love this band. It's not that it's the first thing that get on the record player, but every now and then when the ice have to break I put this on or something similar, like the ALLMAN BROTHERS or LYNYRD SKYNYRD.
BLACKBERRY SMOKE is a amazing live band, that you have to see if you get the chance, it's also is a great travel music or if you wish to climb a mountain.
That mountain is too high for me to climb
The river is too deep and it's too wide, wide
Out of sight, out of mind, I get this way from time to time
But right now it's too high for me to climb
Looks like it's too high for me to climb
Right now it's too high for me to climb
Oh it's a little too high
Today's tune "Too High" is taken from the bands latest and the fourth studio release "Holding All the Roses". It was released on February 10, 2015 via Rounder.
My first encounter with Atlanta’s Blackberry Smoke – was few months ago I did the regular visit to the record store (Soundpollution) for monthly purchases of vinyls when the dude (Hej Calle) behind the counter recommended a live album that I just had to have, it was the album "Leave a Scar, Live: North Carolina" So I just said hell yeah, put it in the pile. That record was laying around for a while, was not so surprising given that the pile was pretty big this time.
But once it got aired and put on the record player, it got played more than once. Wow what a freaking swing these guys have .... oh yeah I'm in heaven!
The lineup consists of Charlie Starr (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Richard Turner (Bass, Vocals), Brit Turner (Drums), Paul Jackson (Guitar, Vocals), and Brandon Still (Keyboards).
They have performed throughout the United States as both headliner and as the supporting act for artists such as Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd. On August 26, 2012, they performed at a charity benefit called the Boot Ride with the cast of Sons of Anarchy, partnered with The Boot Campaign at the Happy Ending Bar and Grill in Hollywood, CA. They performed 20+ dates with Zac Brown Band nationwide in the summer of 2011. Their album Little Piece of Dixie has been featured by Paste Magazine and other publications.
They are now out on tour and will visit Trädgården, Gothenburg today and Tyrol here in Stockholm on sunday. Don't miss it.
Todays tune "Shakin' Hands With the Holy Ghost" is taken from the third studio album "The Whippoorwill", released on August 14, 2012.

What if Johnny Cash had been more interested in horror, vampires, werewolves than in walking the line? Meet the Coffinshakers.
Formed in 1995 in Karlstad, Sweden, by Rob Coffinshaker (Robert Fjällsby), the Coffinshakers eked out an existence from small printings of 7" red vinyl singles and occasional gigs to a mostly uninterested audience. Their first single, "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave," inspired by the classic Hammer horror film, appeared in 1996.
Consisting of Rob on vocals and guitar, Joe Undertaker on bass, Fang on electric guitar, and Andy Bones on drums.
The band's direction of merging traditional country sounds of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings with full-bodied lyrics.
Todays tune "Black Sunday" is a song that fits into this Sunday, a day that started so well, with sun, heat, and summer and then turned and went black, rainy and miserable. The tune is taken from the album "Dark Wings Over Finland" released 2007

A few days ago, a friend (”Jojje” the bassplayer from Supralunar) and I visit to Lilla Hotellbaren/Scandic Malmen at Folkkungagatan 47 to see Backdraft’s gig. Backdraft’s bass player Mats help to run Stockholm’s only old-school country/blues/soul/roots club ”Club Nuggets” the second Thursday every month at Lilla Hotellbaren/Scandic Malmen.
Backdraft is Swedish rockband with influences from southern roots. After having made their entrance on the scene with the fairly straight-forward southern rock debut Here To Save You All in the fall of 2001 – lauded by some critics as the best in the field in more than twenty years, and this by a Swedish band! – and then taking a few years off before returning with 2007’s The Second Coming, Backdraft now back with This Heaven Goes To Eleven – their third, most ambitious album to date.
So this time it was Mats and his own band to take the stage, along with Uppsala blues man Einar (Allan Coe) who did a warm up numbers, who can also be found in punk rockers Obnoxious Youth and also perform under the Anal Karaktär moniker. I must say that this guy is truly amazing with his blues, it sounded great.
Shortly after Einar it was time for Backdraft to enter the stage, they did a semi-acoustic, slightly countrified boogie set, first time i heard them like this and holy moses it sounded great, with this setlist, the semi-acoustic approach they could play at any bar in Nashville and do huge success. Some musicians, such as "Mats Johansson" and "David Johannesson” from Mustasch and Fredrik Jansson from Witchcraft and Petri from Supralunar and a few others was there and checking out Backdraft
The dj:s was Veronica Mazurkiewicz and Daniel Josefsson
Left to right: Jonas Åhlén (vocals), Mats Rydström (bass), Jon Sundberg (guitar), Niklas Matsson (drums), Robert Johansson (guitar).
