The American rock band FALL OUT BOY have paid tribute to their home city of Chicago in the "hyperlapse edition" of the video for "Centuries"(stylized as "Cen†uries"), the anthemic first single from their as-yet-untitled sixth album.
"Centuries" was written by Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman, Andy Hurley, Justin Tranter, Michael Fonseca and Raja Kumari in mid-2014 and was produced by Omega and J.R. Rotem, the latter of which also co-wrote the track. Stump originally came forward with the song while Fall Out Boy were on the Monumentour with fellow American band Paramore.
In an interview with Kerrang!, Wentz described the idea of the song as a "David vs. Goliath story", stating "We wanted to write a song that empowered people who are a little weird."
"Centuries" contains a sample of the song "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega re-recorded by American singer Lolo for the track, which Stump described as "a tip of the hat" to, as the band wanted to "re-inject" it into pop culture.
FALL OUT BOY members:
Patrick Stump – lead vocals, guitar, piano
Joe Trohman – guitar, backing vocals
Pete Wentz – bass, backing vocals
Andy Hurley – drums, percussion
FALL OUT BOY is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hardcore punk scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of their respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003), which became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as some moderate commercial success.
Todays tune "Centuries", released September 9, 2014 as the lead single from their upcoming sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho out January 20th Worldwide on DCD2/Island Records.
