Zeal & Ardor - Run

Manuel Gagneux releases "Run" as the first taster of the forthcoming third ZEAL & ARDOR album.

A tune that is very intense and full of aggression. ZEAL & ARDOR frontman Manuel Gagneux says, “Run is the first single we are releasing off of our self-titled album because, while there are definitely familiar elements present, it sets the tone for things to come. It is surely one of our most aggressive songs yet, but that is just a vanguard of what lies ahead. So run while you still can.”

“Originally I was set to record an album scheduled to come out next year. As these songs were written due to the horrendous events that instilled them I decided to release them as soon as possible. Using the rich heritage and culture as a part of my musical identity it felt like cowardice to sit by and continue with my routine as if nothing happened

This record is for Michael Brown, Eric Garner, George Floyd and the countless untold and nameless killed.”

ZEAL & ARDOR is a Swiss avant-garde metal band started and led by Manuel Gagneux, a Swiss-American musician who had previously created a chamber pop project called BIRDMASK. Formed in 2013, the band mixes sounds of African-American spirituals with black metal.

Initially a solo project, the band signed with MVKA records in 2016 and expanded to a full lineup, with Gagneux on vocals and guitar, backing vocalists Denis Wagner and Marc Obrist, guitarist Tiziano Volante, bassist Mia Rafaela Dieu, and drummer Marco Von Allmen. The project started in New York City, but is now based in Basel, Switzerland.

ZEAL & ARDOR has released two albums, "Devil Is Fine" (2016), and "Stranger Fruit" (2018), as well as a demo album "Zeal And Ardor" (2014). In 2020, they released their first EP, "Wake Of A Nation".

Deafheaven - Black Brick

In 2018, Revolver went on the road with DEAFHEAVEN for our two-part documentary "Corrupt Love Across America" last month, they dropped in again, on a few of the West Coast tour dates on their co-headlining run with BARONESS. The group's recently released stand-alone single "Black Brick" — a B-side from their excellent, adventurous fourth album, "Ordinary Corrupt Human Love" — serves as a particularly vicious highlight of DEAFHEAVENs set. In contrast to the heavily shoegaze-inflected atmosphere of many of the quintet's other songs, the nearly eight-minute composition is steeped in classic black-metal grimness and ferocity, both of which are only amplified live onstage. Watch the recent performance to see what we mean.

DEAFHEAVEN are out on a long North American co-headlining tour with BARONESS, and with the avant-garde metal band ZEAL & ARDOR opening. They’ve also got a few dates with GOJIRA and EMPEROR coming up, see all the dates below.

Zeal & Ardor - Gravedigger's Chant

"Stranger Fruit" with the avant-garde, experimental black rockers ZEAL & ARDOR reaches the 9 place on the Tune of The Day's TOP 50 album list of the Best Albums 2018.

With a powerful mix of musical styles from prison choir to black ended metal make this band quite brilliant and a very fun band to listen to.
