Ministry - Good Trouble

After enduring a year like 2020, no one could have possibly expected Al Jourgensen to stay silent on the maelstrom of the past 12 months. As the mastermind behind pioneering industrial outfit MINISTRY, Jourgensen has spent the last four decades using music as a megaphone to rally listeners to the fight for equal rights, restoring American liberties, exposing exploitation and putting crooked politicians in their rightful place—set to a background of aggressive riffs, searing vocals and manipulated sounds to drive it home

"Moral Hygiene" comes on the heels of MINISTRY’s acclaimed 2018 album "AmeriKKKant" (hailed by Loudwire as Jourgensen’s own “state of the union” address) that was written as a reaction to Donald J. Trump being elected president—though Jourgensen says this new album is more informational and reflective in tone.

“With AmeriKKKant I was in shock that Trump won. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I had to do something. Because I believe if you are a musician or an artist you should be expressing what’s going on around you through your art. It’s going to happen whether you do it consciously or unconsciously. "Moral Hygiene" however has progressed even further into a cautionary tale of what will happen if we don’t act. There’s less rage, but there’s more reflection and I bring in some guests to help cement that narrative".

With the release of "Moral Hygiene", Jourgensen is more positive than before. “This may sound crazy but I’m more hopeful about 2021 than I have been in two decades at least,” he says. “Because I do see things changing; people are starting to see through all the bullshit and want to get back to actual decorum in society. We could just treat each other nicely and be treated nicely in return. I never thought MINISTRY would be in the position of preaching traditional values, but this is the rebellion now".

MINISTRY have released a new single "Good Trouble", taken from the upcoming 15th album "Moral Hygiene", set to be released October 1st, 2021 via Nuclear Blast Records!

Enjoy today's tune!

Grave Pleasures - Joy Through Death

A death eternal
A death as old as the stars
A death that’s beautiful
Death takes us out of this world
a death certifiable
a death that’s full of surprise
a death unconquerable
Death is the meaning of life

Thats the chorus of today's tune "Joy Through Death" by the Finnish death-rock outfit GRAVE PLEASURES, taken from the bands latest release "Motherblood", release on September 29th, 2017.

The Video of "Joy Through Death" was directed by David Fitt, the glossy visual stars Eva Dereta as a young woman with a penchant for dancing on other's peoples graves – literally. Following an encounter with a mysterious old man, our heroine pops in a GRAVE PLEASURES cassette and proceeds to get footloose in the cemetery, strutting through rows of headstones and shadowboxing in front of sobbing statuettes; by video's end, everyone else in the graveyard's getting down as well. It's no "Thriller," but it's close. Check it out now.

The Sword - Tres Brujas

This weekend there was quite a lot that happened, or rather the whole week has been a lot both for me and Thetania, the lady in question did just come home from a metal festival that was in Gävle, however, she is a little tired right now, that you can really understand. There are one or a few reports from that, starting tomorrow.

Besides Baroness and Pearl Jam, I have traveled a little with a Swedish artist this weekend (more on that next week), managed actually with a stop in Gävle and Getaway Rock Festival when i was on my way home, where I witnessed Ministry live before i took off back to Stockholm again.

Just before I went out on the adventure did I packed down some good to have stuff, which included the camera, the sunglasses and a handful of CDs. Like Neil Young, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Silver Devil and The Sword.

The Sword is a record that I like as hell, though it has fallen a little in the twilight zone lately, many other things to be listened through, so it was a nice reunion with The Sword, holy moses what a damn swing it has ...

Going through Sweden with the Sword at nearly full volume in my white Chevy van, feel like a "raggare" (*) but with more modern beats oozing out of the window.

The Sword is an American heavy metal band that formed in Austin, Texas, in 2003. Since its inception the band has comprised vocalist and guitarist John "J. D." Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt and bassist Bryan Richie, and since October 2011 has included drummer Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III. Originally signed to New York-based independent label Kemado Records, the group released debut album Age of Winters in 2006, the material for which was largely written by Cronise prior to the band's formation. The band's second album, Gods of the Earth, was released two years later.

In 2010 the band released Warp Riders, a concept album centered on an original science fiction narrative written by Cronise, which marked the first time someone other than the frontman had produced one of The Sword's records. After leaving Kemado and signing with Razor & Tie in early 2012, the group is due to release its fourth album Apocryphon later in the year (the first to feature Jimmy Vela).

The band has Black Sabbath as a major influence, in addition to doom trio Sleep, sludge band the Melvins, thrash veterans Slayer, and heavy metal icons Iron Maiden and Deep Purple, among others.

Todays tune "Tres Brujas" ("Three Witches") is a song featured on their 2010 third studio album Warp Riders. Written by lead vocalist and guitarist John "J. D." Cronise and guitarist Kyle Shutt, the song was released on June 6, 2010. The single's cover, in response to Warp Riders ' new more progressive rock leanings, is an homage to the 1972 Yes album Close to the Edge. The tune is "full of kick-ass riffs".

The song title "Tres Brujas", which takes its name from the story of the Three Witches from William Shakespeare's Macbeth, was first single from Warp Riders and would also be the first in a trilogy of music videos continuing with "Lawless Lands" and "Night City".

* Raggare (a Swedish word roughly corresponding to the English term "pick-up artist", i.e., a person seeking sexual contact with someone) is a subculture found mostly in Sweden and parts of Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Austria. Raggare are related to the greaser subculture and are known for their love of hot rod cars and 1950s American pop culture.

Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats - I'll Cut You Down

Yesterday, was the Hard Rock Society's annual meeting, for the fifth year in a row at the Twelfth Night. A really wonderful event where 12 music geeks drinking beer and playing music, talking music and dreaming music. Alot of music will be played under a event like this, eight categories are examined, with each disc incisions around 40 minutes times 12:) Holy moses, but hell this is fun.

Here is my choices under each category that I stood for during this evening.

1. Band, That I Missed Live: Thin Lizzy - Are You Ready
One of the bands that I really wanted to see live when I was younger, but unfortunately never got the chance and now it's too late.

2. Bang Your Head: Motörhead - Overkill
This is a category that it really is plenty to choose from, but this is a song that I could never stand still when it is played.

3. Worst Production: Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - I'll Cut You Down
There are also plenty of bands who are suffering from a bad production but still got something so you can listen to it. This band I have selected seems to have tried a little too much to get to the old classic garage sound, so the sound is a bit too messy, but the song is great.

4. Best Ballad: Great White - Since I've Been Loving You
Ballad, hmm... In this case, quite simply, do not want to play "Wind Of Change" exactly, but choose a really great classics from the world's top band "Led Zeppelin", to spice it up a bit, I picked a really good cover of this performed by Great White .

5. Best Song Title: Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod
Right troublesome category, wanted something clever and good, so it had simply become a Ministry

6. Music For A Darkened Room: Opeth - Coil
A category that can be interpreted in many ways, my interpretation was a bit romantic, candlelight, a bottle of fine wine and a partner to share this with.

7. Honor The Dead: Patti Smith - Smells Like Teen Spirit
One category that you can celebrate their heroes one of, have already paid tribute to John Bonham in the ballad, so I could not take one more Led Zeppelin song, Dio is guaranteed to be choosed by someone else so this becomes too obvious. In the end, I looked at the classic twenty-seven year old deaths and found Kurt Cobain and his Nirvana, a song that does not directly have been a favorite, but when I heard Patti Smith's version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, I got sold, flowersinyourhead as good it is.

8. Best Right Now: Vektor - Cosmic Cortex
An obvious choice right now, an album has been played dozens of times and recommended warmly.

Here are some pictures.
