Anvil - Forged In Fire

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Forged In Fire" is the third studio album by the Canadian heavy metal band ANVIL, formed 1978 in Toronto, Ontario. The band now consists of Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals, guitar), Robb Reiner (drums), and Chris Robertson (bass). As of early 2020, the band has released eighteen studio albums and had been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups, including MEGADETH, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, and METALLICA. The band's 18th album, "Legal At Last", was released on February 14, 2020

The title tune from "Forged In Fire" is about an anvil, it's a very literal piece of heavy metal, and as seen in many old cartoons, an archetype for a very heavy, dangerous and unwieldy object. This song expands on the anvil metaphor, describing the blacksmith's work in vivid detail ("Rivulets of sweat steam," "Splashes in magenta") as a way to explain the sound. The band proudly declares that they are "forming metal."

The tune also drew musical inspiration from the Robin Trower song "Bridge Of Sighs" and also from the Max Webster song "Battle Scar," which features members of RUSH.

In an interview with ANVIL, the lead singer Lips, he explained, "I found a riff in that world and I went with it. That's what I found it to be similar to, those two songs, but maybe they're in there because they're in me, and you are what you eat or what you consume."

Enjoy today's tune about the heavy metal thingie Anvil.

The first clip is live in Quebec 1986

The next one is live at Rockpalast Luxor Köln July 10, 2011

Anvil - Eat Your Words

Anvil are a Canadian heavy metal band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 1978. The band consists of Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals, guitar), Robb Reiner (drums) and Sal Italiano (bass, backing vocals). To date, the band has released fifteen studio albums, and has been cited as having influenced many notable heavy metal groups, including Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica.

May 2013 saw the release of "Hope in Hell", a new Anvil studio recording again produced by Bob Marlette, who—according to Lips—contributed a lot to songwriting skills and arrangements. The whole album was written by Lips and Rob alone. In some songs Lips was inspired by his love of heavy "rock'n'roll", which made him feel he "found his way home" to the time when they did their first record.

The record is additionally the band's first with bassist Sal Italiano who joined the band two years ago.

"Hope In Hell" was written, recorded and took the band around the world for 18 months.

Todays tune "Eat Your Words" is taken from the fifteenth studio album "Hope in Hell". The album was produced by Bob Marlette. It was released on May 24, 2013 in Germany, May 27 in the rest of Europe and May 28 in North America.

Saxon - Call To Arms

Saxon are an English heavy metal band, formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire. The band has recently released their 19th studio album.

The new album is actually really good, there is a real force in songwriting, songs that attracts, engages and entertains. Call To Arms, is one clarion call that generations of denim and leather-clad supporters have been waiting to hear. It's pretty fascinating that on the 19th studio album can hold such high class. Biff Byfords song is completely brilliant, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt is really "The Power Of Steel Riffs", also Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glöckler on drums doing a great job on this album, Call to Arms is bang on-the-money brilliant Saxon music.

Current Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey made a guest appearance on "When Doomsday Comes". Two of the tracks on the album were written by the band for the movie Hybrid Theory

The album artwork is derived from Lord Kitchener Wants You, a World War I-era British Army recruitment poster. The US digipack version of the album is featuring a seven track bonus disc containing Saxon's performance at Castle Donington in 1980.

A music video was made for the title track, and was released on 5 August 2011 Which may also be today's Tune Of The Day. The "Call to Arms" album was released the 3 June, 2011 in Europe.

Todays tune "Call To Arms" is a typically British rock ballad, that follow the traditional recipe, enjoy!
