D'espairsRay is a Japanese rock band formed in 1999 by Hizumi, Karyu, Zero and Tsukasa. The lineup has since remained the same.
On March 11, 2009 a new album REDEEMER was released.

A few days ago did they visit Sweden for a gig @ Klubben/Stockholm.
As always when there is a J-Rock band coming you can see the fans tenting outside for days just to get in first, its amazing to see.
A little notice from that day was that Karyu's pedal board was broke and it needed to be fixed, so i took a trip with it to Roland Scandinavia to get it fixed and a hour later it worked again, was some short cuts and cable errors.
Anyway he got happy and could do the sound check.

Hola these guys surly can rock, i must say that these fellows is one of the

Sonny Rollins - Tenor Madness

Theodore Walter "Sonny" Rollins (born Sep 7, 1930 in New York City) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Widely recognized as one of the most important and influential jazz musicians of the post-bebop era, Rollins' long, prolific career began at the age of 11, and he was playing with piano legend Thelonious Monk before reaching the age of 20. A number of his compositions, including "St. Thomas", "Oleo" and "Airegin", have become jazz standards.

As of 2009, Rollins is still touring and recording, having outlived most of his contemporaries such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Max Roach, and Art Blakey, all performers with whom he recorded.

Last Friday did Sonny Rollins perform at Stockholm Jazz Festival.
Sonny was one of the first Jazz blower I heard beside Miles Davis, if I remember correctly it was my brother who introduced him for me and I really did like his was with the Saxophone, Sonny has a style that almost grabs you into the music, its lovely. But as I said yesterday i missed this party and I hope to be able to see him perform soon again.

Rollins was presented with a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2004, but sadly that year also saw the death of his wife Lucille.
In 2007 he received the prestigious Polar Music Prize in Stockholm, Sweden.
He received the awarded "Doctor of Music", honoris causa, for his contributions to jazz music.

This performance from the Antibes Jazz Festival, 2005

Hazmat Modine - Two Harmonicas

Stockholm had their annual Jazz & Blues festival last week.
I was working a bit there in the end, unfortunally I didnt see this band.
Never heard of this group as of now.

They play the harmonica so good.

Its a blues and roots musical group from New York, and their lead singer, Wade Schuman sings very bluesy but this song is a mix of blues and reggie in my ear.

They are 8 in the band and no bass player.
2 harmonicas, 2 gitarrs one tuba, saxophone, drums and a trumpet.
Pretty cool set.

Ah well enjoy duuuuudes and duuuuudettes!

Meshuggah - Bleed

Meshuggah is a Swedish five-piece experimental metal band formed in 1987. Meshuggah's line-up has primarily consisted of founding members vocalist Jens Kidman and lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendal, drummer Tomas Haake, who joined in 1990, and rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström, who joined in 1994. The band has gone through a number of bassists, but the position has been held by Dick Lövgren since 2004.

Meshuggah is the last of the bands from the Sonisphere festival on tune of the day for this time, there were some other band, but there are other things that is coming up. The Sonisphere festival was a great weekend indeed with alot of nice music in diffrent style a good mixture if i can say so. The festival was setup on well used ground as the week before was used for "Hultsfreds Festivalen"
I was able to hear most of the bands like Mastodon that gave a hell of a show with thier nice mixture of progressive metal, The Cult with thier retro rock and Ian in a very good mood and shape, his voice was marvelous, The Hives did also well.
Primal Scream showed that they still rock and Bobby singed like never before, great show even if most of the crowd had moved over to the main stage to wait for the final number and the band Metallica as Thetania said yesterday, it was a marvelous night with a superb band.
And not to forget Meshuggah with larsa on the electric stuff did a great show, Tomas and the rest of the boys really delivered thier stuff well cooled and showed the crowd where the cabinet should stand.
Todays tune is taken from Meshuggah´s 6th and latest album "obZen"
"If you haven't figured it out yet, obZen means that mankind has found its 'zen' in the obscure and obscene"

Metallica - Broken Beat Scarred

Just arrived home from a great...magic weekend at Hultsfred.

Sonisphere was totally magic!!
There were a bunch of bands that really rocked!

But Metallica Ruled!
They came onto the area with hummers and Gmc´s yukon, 1 car each as they all had their company. Stones drove the drummer Lars a very talkative and great guy.
The security was total, the band hanged around a bit b4 the gig and chatted in the backstage area. After the gig they got into the cars directly and with 4 police motorcycles and 2 police cars they drove to the airport at Hultsfred, heading to the hotel in an another country were they seems to have their "home" during the Sonisphere festivals.

The Concert itself was totally marvelous, the bass player Rob has really melted in as a part of Metallica now. The concert I saw last year he stood by himself and did his thing, now he seemed to be more IN the band.
I did the Spotlight on him. It was really a pleasure to see the light engineer creation on the lights, we just did what he called for and the result was incredible (you who was there know what im talking about.)

I picked a pretty new song that i love dearly enjoy my friends!!

And to Metallica band and its crew WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Todays tune "Loaded" was the first single released from the group's 1991 breakthrough album, Screamadelica.

At the start of the song, Weatherall added an audio sample from the Peter Fonda film The Wild Angels.

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

The Cult are an English rock band, formed in 1983. They gained a dedicated following in Britain in the mid 1980s as a post-punk and gothic rock band. The band fuses a "heavy metal revivalist" sound with the "pseudo-mysticism ... of The Doors, the guitar-orchestrations of Led Zeppelin, and the three-chord crunch of AC/DC, while adding touches of post-punk goth rock". Since their earliest form in Bradford during 1981, the band has had various line-ups, and the longest serving members are vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, the band's two songwriters.

In a July 2009 interview with El Paso Times, Astbury stated that the Cult may never release any more studio albums. He explained:

There will be no new album. I don't think we'll ever see a Cult album. Albums are dead. The format is dead. iTunes destroyed albums. The whole idea of an album. Albums were established in the '70s and '80s and into the '90s, but they've been dead for a long time. Nobody buys albums. It's been proven. It's an arcane format, as much as the 78 rpm or writing sheet music for an orchestra. It's an old form and, for me, it's much more about if we have a great song we really believe in, then we'll record it and release it. For me, the idea of making albums is dead. The idea of spending a year and a half in the studio arguing over agendas and trying to fit into a format that's settled before we started the creative process (is unappealing).

Todays tune has been released in various versions of the song. In June 1985, a few months prior to the release of the Love album, three versions had been released: The Long Version, The Howling Mix, and Assault on Sanctuary. It is the last song to be recorded with The Cult's drummer and close friend of Ian Astbury, Nigel Preston. In 1993, several more mixes were released on two different CD singles, each called Sanctuary MCMXCIII volumes one and two. The "Sundance" remix was remixed by Butch Vig who previously had produced Nirvana's Nevermind Album. The "Dog Star Rising" remix was remixed by "Youth" who has produced The Cult's latest album Born Into This.

The Cult is the 4th band to perform @ Sonisphere.

Ballad om en Amerikansk Officer is a song from Imperiet last offical record "Tiggarens tal", released in 1988. The song is about Oliver North and the Iran-Contra scandal.

Imperiet - Märk Hur Vår Skugga

Imperiet were a Swedish 1980s rock band from Stockholm, that existed from 1983 to 1988. They can be argued the most influental band in Sweden for a while, but definitely dominated the new wave scene, which at the time was seen as the same as the punk rock scene.
Imperiet started as Rymdimperiet, a side project to the most popular punk band in Sweden, Ebba Grön, and included three of its members.

Todays tune is taken from Imperiets 4th album "Synd" 1986
But todays tune is from the new release of the album, that was released 1997.
It included the songs "Märk hur vår skugga (Epistel 81)" and "Balladen om briggen Blue Bird av Hull".

"Märk hur vår skugga" is number 81 of Epistles of Fredman by Carl Michael Bellman. It's about one of Bellman's female acquaintances funeral (grälmakar Löfberg's wife).

Many Swedish artists has recorded Märk hur vår skugga, among others Cornelis Vreeswijk, Stefan Sundström, Fred Åkerström and Imperiet. An English translation has been recorded by the Swedish band Candlemass and by the American doom metal band While Heaven Wept, on the album Of Empires Forlorn. English speaking Mediaeval Baebes has recorded the song in Swedish on the album Mirabilis (2005).

Enjoy todays tune!

Im continuing on my youth music here if u dont mind :)

I have picked a tune from 10 CC, they first gave it out in 1974
I remember i just loved it.

They came up with their name 10 CC through the guy who produced their album,
Jonathan King chose the name after having a dream in which he was standing in front of the Hammersmith Odeon in London where the boarding read "10cc The Best Band in the World".

This tune is performed on a beach in Holland 1993

Here it is, Enjoy!

Thåström - Flicka Med Guld

Thåström played at Långholmsparken/Stockholm yesterday togheter with Anna Ternheim and Freddie Wadling. Långholmsparken havent been used for musical events like this in ages so it was a great comeback for the area, its really a great place on a little island in the middle of central Stockholm.

The show was marvelous, the sound was very good (FOH*) also the light was great, thanks to Morgan Brown. Anyway, Thåström did play at this area almost 30 yrs ago with Popstars, was hopeing he would do something about it but nah, a little pity.
The show it self was great, nice collection of tunes. The set list it self was very similar to the one he had when he played at Circus earlier this year.

Todays tune is from Thåströms first self titled solo album back in 1989.

The song is also the bouns track on the cd.
Enjoy!

Neurosis - Locust Star

Neurosis is an experimental metal band, based in Oakland, California. Their unique sound draws from influences ranging from hardcore punk and doom metal to dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of indie and folk music. The band is highly regarded as the primary pioneer of its genre, sometimes referred to as post-metal. Critic Brian Russ has described them as "atmospheric hardcore". Yesterday did Neurosis once again enter the stage at Debaser in Stockholm Sweden.
It was a very hot evening as the air condition had to be off, a lot of water and beer was served at a almost sold out venue.
But the guys did a hell of a show. Mystical doom in the best outfit. A really dark show with lots of metal feelings in a down tempo psychedelic trance.
The opening act Amenra from Belgium did a very good job with their hardcore punk, down-tempo metal tinge. A nice bunch of guys.
Even got a nice t-shirt from the gig and a decent picture with the guys doing sound check.

Neurosis @ Debaser 2009

Neurosis members today:

Scott Kelly - guitar, vocals (Tribes of Neurot, Blood and Time, Shrinebuilder; previously in Violent Coercion)
Steve Von Till - guitar, vocals (Tribes of Neurot, Culper Ring, Harvestman)
