Fantastic Negrito - An Honest Man

Fantastic Negrito is the incarnation of a musician who is reborn after going through a lot of awful shit. In fact, the name Fantastic Negrito represents his third rebirth, literally coming back from death this time. The narrative on this man is as important as the sound, because the narrative is the sound. Songs born from a long hard life channeled through black roots music. Slide guitar, drums, piano. Urgent, desperate, edgy.

Fantastic Negrito is the story of a man who struggled to “make it”, who “got it”, and who lost it all. For anyone who ever felt like it was over yet hoped it wasn’t, this is your music; blues harnessed, forged in realness. For anyone who ever considered getting their old high-school band back together, this is your inspiration. These are singular songs by a true musician who writes and produces. They are his fuel as he embarks on the third comeback of his life.

Xavier Amin Dphrepaulezz (born 1968), better known by his stage name Fantastic Negrito, is an African-American singer-songwriter whose music has spanned blues, R&B, and roots music.

Fantastic Negrito plays at Pustervik (Stay Out West) on Saturday

Today's tune "An Honest Man" is taken from the self titled EP, enjoy!

Siena Root - The Way You Turn

The Swedish progressive blues rock collective "Siena Root". Is soon going to release their new and upcoming album "Pioneers". The first taste from the upcoming record is the brand new video "The Way You Turn" that is characterized by a tasteful combination of genuine song writing and captivating improvisations, enjoyable for anyone who wants music to be "well done".

The video tells the story about the spirit of keeping it real, keep the recording analog and I can tell that all eight tracks are one hundred percent analog-produced, using all-vintage instruments and equipment. The music itself will remind listeners of the great rock era, yet putting a new perspective on the retrospect. Regardless if you like classic rock hits, trippy psychedelia or swinging blues, "The Way You Turn" by Siena Root will be one of your favourite tunes and Im almost sure that the record will a top notch record!

Siena Root came to life in Stockholm in the late 90's and is today considered one of the pioneering Swedish bands in old school rock music. In 2004, when the internet and mp3’s were the new deal, the band persistently released their debut album as a double vinyl LP. Listeners would start carrying down their old turntables from the attic, thus marking the first steps in what we today refer to as “the retro trend”. The live act came to be an uncompromising show, using all the heavy vintage equipment that most bands lack the strength and passion to carry along. Even a full size multi-track tape recorder was brought on tour during the recording of the live album. With the immense dedication to do it all the way, Siena Root would always stand out from the others.

Since the beginning, Siena Root has mostly performed as an experimental collective, the foundation being a trio with guitar, bass and drums. Several guest musicians would complete the line-up, and the fans would never expect to see the same show twice. The result was a rare musical diversity throughout the first five albums and hundreds of live shows. Some of these skilled musicians eventually became more frequent, until Siena Root finally decided to settle as a solid five-piece rock act. The adventure continues, and the pioneers are getting ready to plant another flag in the land of root rock! Beskrivning In the sense that blues is blue, hard rock is black, and reggae is pan African coloured, this music has the colour of siena. It is a warm colour, originally from the muddy roots of the earth. Because this sound has roots that go deep, it was also natural to let root be a part of the bands name
.

Todays tune "The Way You Turn" is a song from the new Siena Root album "Pioneers" to be released 3th of November 2014. The Video was filmed, directed and edited by: Ashlee Christman, The Republic of Media

Starring: Sam Riffer Love "Bill" Forsberg Jonas "Joe Nash" Åhlén Matte Gustafsson Erik "Errka" Petersson as themselves

Nils-Petter Hjort - bus mechanic Moa Nilsson - camera girl Öykü Peksel - hitch hiker Jonas Edler - bartender Adéle Friberg - young lady in bar Izabella Dear - older lady in bar

Slaughter of the Bluegrass - Blinded By Fear

Slaughter of the Bluegrass from Stockholm, Sweden, it’s a band that plays unplugged versions of death metal songs. They use traditional bluegrass instruments and arrangement ideas and try to keep the essence of each song they cover. Reminds me of Hellsongs who also do remakes off old tunes.

This is what SOTB says about the band:

People ask us why we choose to play metal songs, and we answer them that we just want to play good songs, which in this case happens to be in that particular genre. As it turned out, people who aren't used to hearing growling vocals, guitars drenched is distorsion and heavy drums, could still appreciate these compositions, only in a new form.

Slaughter of the Bluegrass is:

Peter Norlinder: Vocals, banjo, mandolin.
Dan Norman: Acoustic guitar, accordion, percussion, backing vocals.
Hannah Sundqvist: Violin, vocals.
Alexander 'Alke' Lindberg: Drums, percussion, backing vocals.
Niklas ’Nille’ Sandin: Bass, backing vocals.
Tomas Åkvik: Banjo, backing vocals.

As for today, during Metaltown i choosed to pick a song from a band that was suppose to end up a few years back but somehow is back on stage again, im not sure if i should be pissed or happy about it.
Anyway its At The Gates i’m talking about, they will play tonight at Metaltown on Red Stage at 22:00
so if you are there, have fun and tell me how it was.

So pour yourself a cup of moonshine and relax to some great music!

Todays tune ”Blinded By Fear” is originally taken from At The Gates ”Slaughter Of The Soul” and got released back in 1995, todays version is just awesome, done as a hillbilly tune, just hit play and enjoy!

Hazmat Modine - Two Harmonicas

Stockholm had their annual Jazz & Blues festival last week.
I was working a bit there in the end, unfortunally I didnt see this band.
Never heard of this group as of now.

They play the harmonica so good.

Its a blues and roots musical group from New York, and their lead singer, Wade Schuman sings very bluesy but this song is a mix of blues and reggie in my ear.

They are 8 in the band and no bass player.
2 harmonicas, 2 gitarrs one tuba, saxophone, drums and a trumpet.
Pretty cool set.

Ah well enjoy duuuuudes and duuuuudettes!

Rockamovya - Warrior Sound

The three founding members of Groundation (Harrison Stafford, Marcus Urani and Ryan Newman) join forces with the legendary Jamaican drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (who worked with numerous reggae artists including The Gladiators, Inner Circle, Prince Far I, Sound Dimension, Burning Spear and Ijahman Levi.) and the grammy nominated Jazz guitarist Will Bernard (has played with many musicians including Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, The Coup, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, MG5 (formerly Frequinox), Idris Muhammad, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Zigaboo Modeliste, Groundation and the Stanton Moore Trio.) to form Rockamovya. The name comes from Leroy Horsemouth Wallace, Jamaican patios style and is meant to show the unity and power of the music.

The sound is fresh and little different from the Groundation works, but it remains deeply rooted in Reggae and Jamaican popular music with influences of Soul and Jazz. Harrisons voice is still very powerful, so you can feel the Groundation rhythms. This is a record i can recommend to all fans of Groundation.

Peter Tosh - Johnny Be Goode

Peter Tosh, born Winston Hubert McIntosh (October 9, 1944 – September 11, 1987) was the guitarist in the original Wailing Wailers, a reggae musician, and a trailblazer for the Rastafari movement.

Tosh grew up in the Kingston, Jamaica slum of Trenchtown. He stood out because of his height at 6 feet, 4 inches. His short-fuse temper and unveiled sarcasm usually kept him in trouble, earning him the nickname Stepping Razor after a song written by Joe Higgs, an early mentor. He began to sing and learn guitar at a young age, inspired by the American stations he could pick up on his radio. After an illustrious career with the Wailers and as a solo musician, he was murdered at his home. Though robbery was officially said to be the motivation behind Tosh's death, many believe that there were ulterior motives to the killing, citing that nothing was taken from the house.

Ali Farka Toure - Soukora

Ali Farka Touré was a Malian singer and guitarist, and one of the African continent’s most internationally renowned musicians. His music is widely regarded as representing a point of intersection of traditional Malian music and its North American cousin, the blues. The belief that the latter is historically derived from the former is reflected in Martin Scorsese’s often quoted characterization of Touré’s tradition as constituting "the DNA of the blues". Touré was ranked number 76 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Here is a wonderful tune, just enjoy!
