Queensrÿche - Eye9

QUEENSRŸCHE the American heavy metal band is out touring atm, today they are visiting Sweden and performing at Klubben here in Stockholm, I wish that I had the time to see the show, but to busy with other things so only a tune, well that's better than nothing!

Today's tune "Eye9" is taken from the fifteenth studio album "Condition Hüman". It was released on October 2, 2015 through Century Media. It is the second studio album recorded with vocalist Todd La Torre, after Geoff Tate was fired from the band and gave up the rights to the name after a two-year lawsuit regarding the rights to the QUEENSRŸCHE brand was amicably settled. The tune is written by Eddie Jackson also known as EdBass and One Take, the bass player and the co-founder QUEENSRŸCHE in 1982.

The Used - Take It Away

American rock band THE USED is out on a 15 year anniversary tour, where they are playing two nights and two albums in each city, Night 1 - Self Titled album, Night 2 - In Love And Death. Yesterday was I able to take part in "Night 2", an energetic show from a joyful band. Together on tour they had THE NEW REGIME.

THE USED from Orem, Utah, formed in 2001. The group consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Justin Shekoski (who replaced founding guitarist Quinn Allman in 2015), bassist Jeph Howard, and drummer Dan Whitesides (who replaced founding drummer Branden Steineckert in 2006).

The group signed to Reprise Records and rose to fame in June 2002 after releasing their self-titled debut album. They followed up with their second album, In Love and Death, in September 2004 and their third album, Lies for the Liars, in May 2007. Shallow Believer, an EP that featured most of the band's B-sides, was released in February 2008. They spent 2008 working on their fourth studio album, Artwork, which was released in August 2009. A fifth album, titled Vulnerable, was released in March 2012 through the independent label Hopeless Records. In summer 2013 they released another EP titled The Ocean of the Sky. Their sixth album, Imaginary Enemy, released in April 2014.

Night 2 had the second studio album "In Love and Death" in focus. It was released on September 28, 2004 and was later certified gold in the United States, indicating over 500,000 copies shipped. It is their most commercially successful album to date. The title and music reference a number of tragic events that surrounded vocalist Bert McCracken during the album's production, notably the death of his pregnant girlfriend. In Love and Death is the final studio album to feature drummer Branden Steineckert.

The cover art is made by Alex Pardee

Today's tune "Take It Away" is the first single taken from THE USEDs second studio album In Love and Death.

"Take it Away" is one of the heaviest tracks from THE USED.

Toy Dolls - Nellie The Elephant

What can be said about TOY DOLLS that haven’t already been said? Began 1979 in Sunderland, toured the world numerous times and released numerous albums & singles. Their 12th studio album “The Album After The Last One” came 2012….and they still touring!

Departing from the angry lyrics and music often associated with punk rock, THE TOY DOLLS  worked within the aesthetics of punk to express a sense of fun, with songs such as "Yul Brynner Was a Skinhead", "My Girlfriend's Dad's a Vicar" and "James Bond Lives Down Our Street". There is often alliteration in their song titles (e.g. "Peter Practice's Practice Place", "Fisticuffs in Frederick Street", "Neville Is a Nerd"). They are probably best known however for their sole UK hit, a punk-rock cover of "Nellie the Elephant".

Their albums usually include a cover version of a well-known hit song, usually sped up to the usual punk rock tempo. Covers have included: "Blue Suede Shoes", "Toccata in Dm", "No Particular Place to Go", "Sabre Dance", "Livin' La Vida Loca", "Lazy Sunday Afternoon", "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), She's So Modern and "The Final Countdown". They have also recorded parodies of popular songs, such as "The Kids in Tyne and Wear (Kids in America)" and "The Devil Went Down to Scunthorpe (The Devil Went Down to Georgia)". Their albums often start with a short intro with a catchy guitar riff, and end with an outro, which is usually a slightly longer variation of the intro riff. Kazoos are also prominent in many of their songs.

Most of the band members have nicknames, and are rarely seen without their cartoonish rectangular sunglasses (although they appeared bare-eyed on the One More Megabyte album cover).

Anyway, they did perform yesterday at PSK, here in Stockholm and did as they usually do, a brilliant performance that will not easily be forgotten. So today we play a classic with them and of course some pictures from the show, enjoy!

Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety-trump
Trump, trump, trump

Todays tune "Nellie The Elephant" is taken from the TOY DOLLS DVD "Our Last DVD?". Filmed at the Utrecht Tivoli, Holland on the 20th November 2004 this awesome performance features many of the Dolls most memorable songs including "Nellie The Elephant", "Dig That Groove Baby", "Idle Gossip", "Glenda And The Test Tube Baby" and many more. Featuring Michael "Olga" Algar on vocals/guitar, Tommy Goober on bass/vocals and Dave The Nut on drums/a bit of vocals. Other features on the DVD include an interview with Michael 'Olga' Algar and footage from behind the scenes, rehearsals and on tour from throughout 2004! The tune "Nellie the Elephant" is written in 1956 by Ralph Butler and Peter Hart about a fictional intelligent elephant of the same name

Anti Nowhere League - So What

Friday, time for this year's PUNK'n'Oi! festival, Pretty Shitty Kjell kicks of at Klubben here in Stockholm with a pretty cool line up. Bands like ANTI-NOWWHERE LEAGUE, EXPLOITED, SABOTAGE, BISHOPS GREEN, TOY DOOLS, VICIOUS RUMOURS among others are playing here and it going to be awesome weekend.

Hopefully i will bring in some cool photos again and some great old school music.

ANTI-NOWWHERE LEAGUE are an English hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 by lead singer Animal (Nick Culmer), guitarist Magoo (Chris Exall), Tony "Bones" Shaw on drums and Clive "Winston the Grass" Blake on bass.

The ANTI-NOWWHERE LEAGUE set out on the road in 1980 to prove they could be the worst band on Gods earth loud, violent, obnoxious yobbos with one mission... to get banned from every TV show, radio station and newspapers as possible just for a laugh......they were hated by the general public as well as 'real' musicians who thought they were a disgrace to the music business(and of course the fact they were pulling more people in their live shows than they were).....with numerous encounters with the authorities they have continued to play and release new material away from the public eye....In this day and age it does not seem quite as big a deal as it was back then when they stood alone now a few of the 'real' bands have taken up the 'flag' to be original with attitude...long may independent bands continue keeping the music live and real.....long live the League

You always know what you get when The LEAGUE hit the stage... raw, beerfueled, hard driven Punk'n'Roll with sing-a-long favourites like For You, Woman and So F**king What! Enjoy!

Animal - Vox,
Shady - Bass,
Nato - Drums,
Tommy-H - Guitar

Todays tune "So What?" is a song written by the British punk band the ANTI-NOWWHERE LEAGUE. The song first appeared as the B-side of the band's debut 7" single "Streets of London", in 1981. The song was written, according to the band, after sitting in a pub one night and hearing two men try to out do each other with stories of past experiences. The song is therefore a retort to people who tell embellished stories to make themselves appear better than the other person they are in conversation with.

The song was famously covered by METALLICA and released as a B-side to the "Sad But True" single and later included on the Garage Inc. album; it is also a bonus track on the Asian version of METALLICA. "So What?" would go on to become an in-concert standard for the band. SUM 41 often use the METALLICA version as outro music played over the sound system at their concerts.

"So What" became the group's anthem.

Todays clip is a promo from 1982

Metallica w/ "Animal" Nick Culmer - So What? (Live in San Francisco, December 9th, 2011) - Metallica perform "So What?" with Anti-Nowhere League singer "Animal" Nick Culmer. Anti-Nowhere League originally recorded the song as a b-side for their 1981 debut single "Streets of London". This version was recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 7th, 2011 (the third of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).

The Swedish metal pioneers from Gothenburg "The Haunted" is out on tour with the brand new album "Exit Wounds" in the luggage (Released on 25 August 2014).

This Thursday (Oct 9th) do they pay a visit "Klubben" here in Stockholm for a show, the plan is that I will do a visit there, so hopefully I will get time to do that and maybe even see the show, mostly because it's going to be a killer evening, as The Haunted live rocks!

Both of the Björler brothers and Erlandsson were members of the seminal melodic death metal band At the Gates, a pioneering force in the Swedish death metal scene.

NOFX - Kill All The White Man

Last Sunday did the Americans NOFX invite up to dance at Klubben here in Stockholm. It was an eventful evening with some really strange things that ended up with a magical gig. That these guys would be generous with them self on stage never hit my mind, really fun show, even though this kind of "happy punk" not really hook me, but I actually had real fun on the job for once.

NOFX is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California (later relocating to San Francisco). The band was formed in 1983 by vocalist/bassist Fat Mike and guitarist Eric Melvin. Drummer Erik Sandin joined NOFX shortly after. In 1991, El Hefe joined to play lead guitar and trumpet, rounding out the current line-up. The band rose to popularity with their fifth studio album Punk in Drublic (1994), which was certified gold in both the United States and Canada, and is now considered a classic punk album by fans and critics alike. Their seventh studio album So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes (1997) was also certified gold in Canada.

NOFX's mainstream success was signified by a growing interest in punk rock during the 1990s, but unlike many of their contemporaries, they have never been signed to a major label. NOFX has released twelve studio albums, fifteen extended plays and a number of seven-inch singles. Their latest studio album, Self Entitled, was released on September 11, 2012. The group has sold over 6 million records worldwide, making them one of the most successful independent bands of all time.

Todays tune "Kill All The White Man", the last tune on their setlist. Here NOFX playing at the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds in 2009, the tune is taken from "The Longest Line" which is a 12" EP, released in 1992. This was the first release on Fat Wreck Chords and the cover art was done by Dan Sites. The first 200 copies of this record were printed on dark-blue vinyl, some on grey vinyl, and all others on black vinyl. It was repressed in 2007 with 1,082 copies on "Peruvian" white vinyl. This coloured version sold out within a day. The band denied all suggestion that the title referred to cocaine. All five songs on the EP were later released on The Longest EP.
