The New Regime - We Rise, We Fall

Multi-instrumentalist Ilan Rubin is best known for his work with NINE INCH NAILS, LOSTPROPHETS, ANGELS & AIRWAVES and a brief stint with PARAMORE. But it can be argued that his best work happens when this one-man-band is fronting—and backing THE NEW REGIME.

THE NEW REGIME is out touring as support for THE USED and did a show yesterday at Klubben here in Stockholm. An interesting combo of many genres rock in a pretty nice package. Together on tour he has his Brother Danny Rubin on bass and drummer Hayden Scott (AWOLNATION, FILTER)

Today's tune "We Rise, We Fall" is taken from album "Exhibit B", which Rubin wrote and recorded almost entirely while touring with NIN in 2013-14. Given what his night job was at the time, you might expect the results of his daylighting to sound Trent-influenced. Perhaps you’ll find some of that in there, but you may be more immediately struck by the old-school classicism of Rubin’s approach.

Setlist from the show at Klubben

Radiate The False
Say What You Will
Daydream
Don't Chase It
No Traces
Strong-Arm Tomorrow
We Rise, We Fall
Tap Dancing in a Minefield

The Used - Take It Away

American rock band THE USED is out on a 15 year anniversary tour, where they are playing two nights and two albums in each city, Night 1 - Self Titled album, Night 2 - In Love And Death. Yesterday was I able to take part in "Night 2", an energetic show from a joyful band. Together on tour they had THE NEW REGIME.

THE USED from Orem, Utah, formed in 2001. The group consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Justin Shekoski (who replaced founding guitarist Quinn Allman in 2015), bassist Jeph Howard, and drummer Dan Whitesides (who replaced founding drummer Branden Steineckert in 2006).

The group signed to Reprise Records and rose to fame in June 2002 after releasing their self-titled debut album. They followed up with their second album, In Love and Death, in September 2004 and their third album, Lies for the Liars, in May 2007. Shallow Believer, an EP that featured most of the band's B-sides, was released in February 2008. They spent 2008 working on their fourth studio album, Artwork, which was released in August 2009. A fifth album, titled Vulnerable, was released in March 2012 through the independent label Hopeless Records. In summer 2013 they released another EP titled The Ocean of the Sky. Their sixth album, Imaginary Enemy, released in April 2014.

Night 2 had the second studio album "In Love and Death" in focus. It was released on September 28, 2004 and was later certified gold in the United States, indicating over 500,000 copies shipped. It is their most commercially successful album to date. The title and music reference a number of tragic events that surrounded vocalist Bert McCracken during the album's production, notably the death of his pregnant girlfriend. In Love and Death is the final studio album to feature drummer Branden Steineckert.

Today's tune "Take It Away" is the first single taken from THE USEDs second studio album In Love and Death.

"Take it Away" is one of the heaviest tracks from THE USED.
