Ghost - He Is

The Swedish occult rockers GHOST is out on an intensive tour and will play in Stockholm this Friday 13th (See all the dates below). I hope I will have time to go, as Ghost live is very good.
The cover art is from the inside of the album "Meliora". Illustration made by Zbigniew M. Bielak 2015

Today's tune "He Is" is the latest Video release from the band's third album, "Meliora". "Meliora" is Latin for “better” and better it is, and I absolutely dig their last record. "He Is" is one of the strongest tracks on the album where the lyrics is pretty interesting.

The Haunted - Cutting Teeth

The Swedish metal pioneers from Gothenburg "The Haunted" is out on tour with the brand new album "Exit Wounds" in the luggage (Released on 25 August 2014).

This Thursday (Oct 9th) do they pay a visit "Klubben" here in Stockholm for a show, the plan is that I will do a visit there, so hopefully I will get time to do that and maybe even see the show, mostly because it's going to be a killer evening, as The Haunted live rocks!

So today we kick loose with a real slam, delightfully hard and noisy song taken from "Exit Wounds" the band latest release.

The Haunted is a Swedish metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1996. The original members were Anders & Jonas Björler, Peter Dolving, Adrian Erlandsson and Patrik Jensen. Both of the Björler brothers and Erlandsson were members of the seminal melodic death metal band At the Gates, a pioneering force in the Swedish death metal scene.

A minority of members, past and present, are from Gothenburg, Sweden; with the exception of Patrik Jensen, who is from Linköping; Per Möller Jensen, who is from Denmark; Adrian Erlandsson, who is from Malmö; and Marco Aro, who is from Finland.

Todays tune "Cutting Teeth" is taken from the album "Exit Wounds". Century Media Records 2014.

Remaining Tourdates:

Oct 09 Klubben Stockholm, Sweden
Oct 10 Nöjesfabriken Karlstad, Sweden
Oct 11 Musikens Hus Goteborg, Sweden
Oct 19 Loudpark Tokyo, Japan
Feb 28 House of Metal

Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

First I want to give a huge thanks to Chief Rebel Angel for his contribution at Tune Of The Day with his "The Rebel Angel Ramblings", Thank You!

With his inspiring articles about impressions and ideas regarding music in general has created a new glow for me and my writing, this might change and widespread existing content into something new and more interesting for your readers, how this will affect the blog is too early to say, I still have a hectic time to go thru before it's calming down a bit and i can take a breath. But when the time comes we will see what happens.

So the upcoming post here at Tune Of The Day will be of the shorter variety, but I do have some stories to tell, as it has been a busy time and hopefully Thetania gets the lust to write something.

During last week there has been a Gospel Show at The Globe, The Opening Ceremony of Tele2 Arena, preparing the banquet for the Polar Prize and a Really Crazy show at Gröna Lund with Wu-Tang Clan.

So lets start with the Crazy thing today.  Wu-Tang Clan created chaos when they visited Gröna Lund (amusement park) in Stockholm last week. The nine rappers from the hip-hop collective from Staten Island, New York, got the audience to climb the trees, on the roofs, on the carousels to get a glimpse of the scene. Looked pretty Crazy so to say, never seen this at Gröna Lund before.

Once again the park had to close the gates as the park was full. The police was called to the scene as the Park Security could not manage the safety any longer as approximately 17,000 crazy people created a chaos in the park.

A total of 90 crimes were reported to police during the evening. It includes drug offences, but also some violations of the weapon law, crimes against knife law, rioting and assaulting a police officer. So in other words a pretty messy evening.

The Clan first became known to hip hop fans, and to major record labels, in 1993 following the release of the independent single "Protect Ya Neck", which immediately gave the group a sizeable underground following. Though there was some difficulty in finding a record label that would sign Wu-Tang Clan while still allowing each member to record solo albums with other labels, Loud/RCA finally agreed, releasing their debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), in late 1993. This album was popular and critically-acclaimed, though it took some time to gain momentum. The success of Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers established the group as a creative and influential force in early 1990s hip hop, allowing Ol' Dirty Bastard, GZA, RZA, Raekwon, Method Man and Ghostface Killah to negotiate solo contract.

Todays tune "C.R.E.A.M." ("Cash Rules Everything Around Me") is taken from their 1993 studio album, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)". The song was produced by Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA, and samples The Charmels' 1967 song, "As Long As I've Got You". "C.R.E.A.M." was released as a single through Loud in early 1994.

Neil Young - Heart Of Gold

A sunny and warm eve inside a tent on a worn out office chair that has certainly been at a festival more times than I, the site is Boneyard in Slottskogen Gothenburg. It's day 6½ of the Way Out West Festival, Show Day 2. Has been a really good time with unusually good weather, where rain has only said hello to us for short times and given us more sun than usual, which one would like to thank very sincerely to. Working out in the rain is certainly not funny.

Yesterdays headline was going to be Neil Young, one of my must to see in this years line up, but sadly he had to cancel his show. The press release said following:

"Due to an accident involving Crazy Horse, the remaining dates on the Neil Young and Crazy Horse tour of Europe and the British isles have been cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes to our fans or the Festivals where we were scheduled to appear. As you must be, we too are disappointed at this unfortunate turn of events. - Neil Young and Crazy Horse."

According a Rolling Stone source, the pull-out was caused by guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro breaking his hand.

"It's a mild fracture," the source reportedly said. "He's expected to make a complete recovery in time for the North American tour."

So today, we pick a song from his incredible vault of music history.
"Heart of Gold" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young. Released from the 1972 album Harvest, it is so far Young's only U.S. #1 single.

The song, which features backup vocals of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, is one of a series of soft acoustic pieces which were written partly as a result of a back injury. Unable to stand for long periods of time, Young could not play his electric guitar and so returned to his acoustic guitar, which he could play sitting down. He also played his harmonica during the three instrumental portions, including the Introduction to the song.

"Heart of Gold" was taped during the initial sessions for Harvest in early 1971 at Quadrafonic Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.Ronstadt (who herself would later cover Young's song "Love is a Rose") and Taylor were in Nashville at the time for an appearance on Johnny Cash's television program, and the album's producer Elliot Mazer arranged for them to sing backup for Young in the studio.

Originally this song was meant to segue with "A Man Needs a Maid", and was therefore played on piano. It was played in this manner during Young's solo shows in 1971, but he abandoned this approach midway through the tour and began to play it on guitar as it is now known. Additionally, one line that was cut when the two songs became separate entities was "Afraid/A man feels afraid"[8] An example of the segued version appears on Young's 2007 release Live at Massey Hall 1971.

Young wrote in the liner notes of his 1977 compilation album Decade: "This song put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch. A rougher ride but I saw more interesting people there." This statement was in response to the mainstream popularity that he gained as a result of the number-one status of "Heart of Gold".

In 1985, Bob Dylan admitted that he disliked hearing this song, despite always liking Neil Young:

The only time it bothered me that someone sounded like me was when I was living in Phoenix, Arizona, in about '72 and the big song at the time was "Heart of Gold." I used to hate it when it came on the radio. I always liked Neil Young, but it bothered me every time I listened to "Heart of Gold." I think it was up at number one for a long time, and I'd say, "Shit, that's me. If it sounds like me, it should as well be me."

"Heart of Gold" has been covered by Tanya Donelly, Matchbox Twenty, Tori Amos, Free Dominguez, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Richard Lloyd, Bettye Lavette, Birds and Batteries, Zakk Wylde (with Black Label Society), Boney M, Carla Cook, Lawrence Gowan, Stereophonics, Rockapella, Roxette, Kiki Dee, The Polyphonic Spree, Backburner, Hanah, Ossifar, the James Last Orchestra, Five for Five, Sally Dworsky, Channeling Owen, Stoney LaRue, The Bad Plus, Dave Matthews, Jimmy Buffett (with the Coral Reefer Band), Tavi Gevinson, Charles Bradley, and as a Karaoke backing track. It is also heard briefly in the 1984 film Iceman.

Todays clip is a filmed Live, 1971. Neil digs around in his pockets trying to find the right harp and then plays a the tune ...Heart of Gold.

Rihanna - Diamonds

The next few days I'll offer some concerts that have been in the last week before it's time for some new tunes under the microscope and then taken over by festival music. Exciting?

So here we go, one gig at a time and it will become a sprawling mix of music.

So first out is the Barbados girl, Rihanna. She is out on the ongoing fifth concert tour "Diamonds World Tour". Launched to support her seventh studio album Unapologetic (2012). The tour began on March 8, 2013 in Buffalo, New York and will end in November 15, 2013 in New Orleans. She did visit the Globe, Stockholm, Sweden in July 22, 2013. The Diamonds World Tour includes five acts and an encore and includes all her hits.

The concert was majestic, grand, and the lady got up in time. The show was entertaining with awesome light and definitely worth seeing even if this is not my cup of tea.

Todays tune "Diamonds" is a song recorded by Rihanna for her seventh studio album, Unapologetic (2012). It was written by Sia Furler together with its producers, Benny Blanco and StarGate. The song premiered on September 26, 2012, during the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show and was digitally released the following day as the lead single from Unapologetic. The song's lyrics serve as a departure from the themes of unhealthy relationships that were on Rihanna's previous singles.

Setlist

This weeks Record Of The Week "Sempiternal" is the fourth studio album by British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon. It was released on 1 April 2013. It is the first album to feature keyboardist Jordan Fish and was believed to be the last album to feature guitarist Jona Weinhofen. However, Weinhofen's role within the album's development has been faced with controversy.

Written and recorded throughout 2012, Sempiternal showed the band pool diverse influences from electronic music, ambient music and pop. "Sempiternal" is an archaic English word denoting the concept of "everlasting time" that can never actually come to pass. It stems from the Latin word "sempiternus" (a concatenation of root "semper" and suffix "aeternum"). The album's cover art is a depiction of the Flower of Life.

The album has thus far spawned two singles ("Shadow Moses" and "Sleepwalking"). Sempiternal is a very powerful album and well energized. It's very noticeable electronic presence. In short, "Sempiternal" is an excellent album that really shows what Bring Me the Horizon can do and that they can innovate without losing something along the way.

Todays tune "Sleepwalking" is the 2:nd single taken from "Sempiternal", the video is directed by Aniceideaeveryday
