The Killers - The Man

The Wonderful Wonderful World Tour is the fifth major concert tour by the American rock band THE KILLERS, in support of their fifth studio album "Wonderful Wonderful", which was released on September 22, 2017. The tour include dates in Europe, the Americas and Oceania. Last weekend did this rock act visit Sweden once again. A spectacular  show with shit loads of Confetti and a beautiful waterfall, see pictures below. My role this evening was to assist with the pyro, the touring pyrotechnics was Nigel and Dave, two cool dudes.

Great pyro effect.

Picture stolen from the London Show.

So for today we pick a tune from the setlist.

Today's tune "The Man" is taken from their fifth studio album, "Wonderful Wonderful" (2017). It was released on June 14, 2017, as the lead single from the album. Written by: Flowers, Stoermer, Lee, Bell, Bell, Brown, Nash, Smith, Westfield, Mickens, Boyce, Thomas

Drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. stated that the song's lyrics were "largely about how when we were younger we felt invincible. What it meant to be a 'man' in your 20's. Sort of your chest out, the breadwinner, nothing could stop you, invincible sort of thing. It's sort of tongue-and-cheeking that, how that is not really the point of being a man at all. It's actually more about compassion and empathy." According to the band's vocalist Brandon Flowers, the song is a response to the more delicate songs of the album, including "Rut" and "Some Kind of Love": "Those songs came and it was like, 'These are more tender or contemplative than we've ever been, how did we get to this point?' Reflecting on that was where 'The Man' came from."

The artwork for the single features Flowers's youngest son Henry and was shot by Anton Corbijn.

The accompanying music video for the single was directed by Tim Mattia and released on June 28, 2017. The video, filmed in Las Vegas, features Flowers portraying a variety of characters that are connected by their obsession with ego and fame. By the end of the video, all of Flowers' characters begin to fall apart as their success fades. It includes a cameo by former Mayor of Las Vegas and current First Gentleman of Las Vegas Oscar Goodman.

Throughout the summer of 2017, THE KILLERS played festivals across Europe, were they did a show in Sweden, Bråvalla and North America as well as performances in smaller venues. At many of these shows, the band previewed several new songs from the then-upcoming album Wonderful Wonderful including the singles "The Man" and "Run for Cover". On August 28, 2017, the band announced on its website and via Instagram and Twitter posts that guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer would not be present on the tour; Ted Sablay and Jake Blanton, both of whom have toured with the band in the past, will fill in for Keuning and Stoermer respectively. The band also added more touring musicians: Robbie Connolly (keyboards, guitar), Taylor Milne (guitar) and backing vocalists Erica Canales, Danielle Withers and Amanda Brown. On December 1, 2017, Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer performed with the band in Las Vegas for the Vegas Strong Benefit Concert to raise money for the 1 October tragedy victims fund.
