Swedish power trio MONOLORD return with their highly anticipated new album, "Your Time To Shine". Firebreather - Firebreather

Fire is what happens when a carbon based object is consumed by oxygen. That chemical reaction is fitting to the sound of FIREBREATHER: The riffs are suffocating, the rhythms fast moving and all-consuming. It’s so blindingly and deafeningly monolithic, don’t be surprised to find yourself gasping for air while listening.

The Gothenburg, Sweden trio has a streamlined focus on driving, symphonic riffs in the vein of HIGH ON FIRE, INTER ARMA and their tour- and label-mates MONOLORD. The guitar and bass tones are, quite simply, entrancing. Like watching flames engulf a forest, the billowing guitar tones are simultaneously beautiful and destructive, while the rhythms sway and lunge with vicious precision.

FIREBREATHER are:
Mattias Nööjd :: Kyle Pitcher :: Axel Wittbeck

Today's tune "Firebreather" taken from the album "Under A Blood Moon", the video is filmed live on October 17, 2019 during the MONOLORD and FIREBREATHER tour, enjoy!

Monolord - No Comfort

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record of The Week".

Gothenburg and Sweden's finest doomish sludge troupe MONOLORD have returned with their fourth album "No Comfort", released on September 20th via Relapse Records. MONOLORD has been on here pretty frequently over the years, the 2014’s "Empress Rising" (review here), 2015’s "Vænir" (review here) and 2017’s "Rust" (review here) and "Fairies Wear Boots" (here) and now it's time for the fourth album.

"No Comfort" is a heavy piece of work, sludgy doomed and lightly psychedelic and one thing is for sure it's a "No Comfort" for pop or indie peeps or hip-hoppers, but this is true comfort for any doomheads around this world. It's slow and massive with hazy vocals and minimalist and heavy ponderous riffs and partly very melodic, almost hypnotic and grabs a firm grip on the listener.

Once again they released a six-track mammoth album, the magic six-track have been the MONOLORD standard on the last three releases. On "No Comfort" the six tunes are all sharing the playtime of forty-seven minutes, this divided by six is an average of nearly eight minutes, pretty long tunes indeed. The album starts with the fat and grinding riffs in a classic MONOLORD way in "The Bastard Son", you instantly recognize the meditative pattern. "The Last Leaf" really opens up the soul in these gents, fat bass licks flow straight through the tune like a bursting oil pump and the melodic psychedelic guitar chorus in the middle of the tune, a sound that is piercing a hole in my heart all the way to the end. My breath is almost out and I'm totally exhausted before the gentle sound of the guitar playing that opens up the gentle "Larvae", a half pace tune that slowly rises into a heavy doom piece with some classic NWOBHM riffs and suffering groovy bassline and after almost eight minutes is closes up with a monotone duel riffing. "Skywards" is full of energy with groovy and melodic riffing in a great atmosphere. "Alone Together", monotone low-end bassline and atmospheric guitar make this beauty a memorable tune. The album closes up the eleven-minute title track "No Comfort", painfully rueful clean vocals and slow chugging colossal riffs make this an epic ending.

This album may be more polished than before with improved production quality instead of recorded it in the living room. But that does not mean that MONOLORD has forgotten how to create magic and that they show greatly through "No Comfort", and an excellent album art work is just another star in the book.

Sum: BANG! MONOLORD did it again.

MONOLORD is:
 Mika Häkki - Bass
Esben Willems - Drums
Thomas Jäger - Guitar and Vocals

Today's tune "The Last Leaf" is taken from the album "No Comfort", the video is freaking stunning, enjoy!

Monolord - Fairies Wear Boots

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Fairies Wear Boots" is a song by the English heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH, from their 1970 album "Paranoid". It was released in 1971 as the B-side to "After Forever".

In the 2010 documentary film Classic Albums: BLACK SABBATHs "Paranoid", Geezer Butler states the music was inspired by the band's encounter with skinheads, who are the "fairies" in the song.

However, in the 2004 release of Black Box: "The Complete Original Black Sabbath" (1970–1978), Tony Iommi states the title was inspired from an incident when Geezer and Ozzy were smoking cannabis and saw fairies in boots running around a park and not from an encounter with skinheads. In Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography I Am Ozzy he stated he doesn't know what the song is about, but everybody told him he wrote the lyrics. Per an interview with the band on AXS TV's show Classic Albums, the song was about skinheads.

On US copies of the album, The intro to the song was entitled "Jack the Stripper".

An earlier version of "Fairies Wear Boots", taken from a session for the BBC's John Peel Sunday Show dated April 26, 1970, is on the bonus disc of the Ozzy Osbourne release The Ozzman Cometh.

The song also appears on the band's first compilation album, "We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll".

In 2014, CVLT Nation asked if MONOLORD would be apart of their BLACK SABBATH “Covers” Series and assigned "Fairies Wear Boots" to the band. None of us could have imagined that this would become one of the most epic SABBATH Covers EVER!

Enjoy todays cover!

The Well - Death And Consolation

New week, it's time for "Record Of The Week"

"Death And Consolation" is the new album by the Austin, TX power Trio THE WELL.

The band once again recorded with long-time producer/engineer Chico Jones at Estuary Studio in 2018, who has turned the knobs for all three of their albums (Jones engineered the band’s debut album "Samsara" with producer Mark Deutrom (MELVINS, SUN O)))) in 2013.

Ian Graham, Lisa Alley & Jason Sullivan
"Death And Consolation" is a more personal album says the guitarist/vocalist Ian Graham. And by knowing that you listen with a different type of ears and can hear that there is a lot of depression and darkness over the lyrics that can weight up the album title. The sound follows the already made path that THE WELL has created over the last two albums, 70's psych and proto-metal, with a vibe of JOY DIVISION and BLUE CHEER. "Death And Consolation" have a lot of heaviness with down-tuned guitars that give a monstrous sound on the album, fat bassline and well played drums along with great vocals. The album has a play time of 42 mins divided into 9 tight and concise tunes that make this album a lovely listening moment.

The albums open up with a Sitar on the tune "Sabbah", heavy and doomish guitar, drony vocals, powerful drumming and a catchy chorus with a matchless hymns makes this an excellent start of the album. "Raven" forces forward with ping pong riffs. To the more half paced SABBATH alike tunes like the powerful "Death Song" or the even slower haunting "Freedom Above". The gothic parts can you hear cleary on "Cup Of Peace". There are a few lumbering and spooky tunes like "Eyes Of A God" and the riff theme "This Is How The World Ends" that will rise the fear. Or just take the heavy horror piece "Act II" that is just a brilliant piece of melodic doom. The album closes with "Endless Night", a really dark tune with heavy distorted riffs, church bells and haunting melody.

"Death And Consolation" were released on April 26th, 2019 via Riding Easy Records.

Sum: Can it be much better than this, spooky noise doom at it's best.

Today's tune "This Is How The World Ends" is the first single out of "Death And Consolation", enjoy!

Monolord - Rust

Monday, New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

The Swedish sludge/doom trio MONOLORD serves a brand new and third album release "Rust", where they invites you to a spooky trip into their world of heavy, slow atmospheric riffs with hazy minimalistic and strip down vocals. It's an shaken album not stirred.

This 6 track mammoth album starts with "Where Death Meets The Sea", monotone Sabbathian riffs that flows like a slow stream and forms this heavy dirty piece to something great and shiny. Heavy is just the first name of this gents, emotional should be their second. As in the second tune "Dear Lucifer" all is kept slow in pace and mood, touching atmosphere. "I stab your back and run true the night" is part of the lyrics on the title track and today's tune "Rust", catchy piece with heavy and melodic riffs. With slow and emotional feeling makes you as a listener weak, specially on violin parts in "Wormland" that sneaks in so beautifully between the heavy riffs. "Forgotten Lands" the almost 13 minutes epic with an killing bass line in the middle of the tune that lifts this tune up a notch higher until a magical vocal chants start, masterpiece! The end track is the angry "At Niceae", it almost sounds like it's running out of fuel, but still it forces true the barriers that is in front of MONOLORDs path until a lonely and single line guitar part takes the center place on the stage in a splendid way. This album was recorded by Monolord, mixed and mastered by Esben Willems (Berserk Audio).

Thomas V Jäger - Electric and acoustic guitars, vocals and cowbell
Esben Willems - Drums and percussion
Mika Häkki - Bass and ambience

Sum: The bands third triumph is here, do not miss this!

Today's tune "Rust" is the title track from the "Record Of the Week", it was released September 29th via RidingEasy Records.

Skraeckoedlan - Pärlor

Since forming in 2009 SKRAECKOEDLAN has left deep footprints in the Swedish underground scene. The band offers a buffé of heavy fuzz rock, originating in the fat 70’s groove of BLACK SABBATH, the melodic 90’s choruses of WEEZER and MASTODONS modern progressive metal. SKRAECKOEDLAN combines this with lyrics that tell tales about cosmic worlds centered around sagas and mythological beings, all sung in their native tongue.

Today's tune "Pärlor" or in SKRAECKOEDLAN way "Paerlor" is a tune is written by Joakim Berg (KENT). The tune have gotten a real boost by these guys, it's heavy and fuzzy at the same time, well done! The digital version and video was release last November and the 7" vinyl 13/1 2017 via Razzia Records. The Video was made by Mats Ek. Enjoy the Thursday cover, witch i think rocks big time.

The artwork has been made by Johan Leion, who also designed the debut album "Äppelträdet".

Tune Of The Days - 20 Best Albums of 2014 pos: 11-20

Now we almost reached the end of this year, December 20th and during this time of the year it's time to sum it all up with this year's best albums!

This have been a really, I mean really good year album wise, when I started to collect together all the good albums before this, I realized after a while that this does not really hold when you start approaching 3 digit :) Well after a few hours it starts to resemble to something like a top 20. It was really difficult task this year. In other words, it has simply been too much good records this year.

Many great records have unfortunately fallen off the list, but the music heart have decided and now when I look at it, it was not quite what I had expected from the beginning, which means that this list got to be very interesting. I am absolutely convinced that you not fully agree with me, but this is what I like. And luckily that the taste is divided, how else would it be.

First up we present this year's best albums between 20 - 11. Where you get the first 10 at once. Today's tune will be publish later on this evening. So here we go!

20. Accept - Blind Rage
The old-school metal band ACCEPT, with their third album within the five years since their re-launch. ACCEPT shows once again that they still can deliver a excellent record.

19. Electric Wizard - Time To Die
Electric Wizard Releases a cocky and modern doom canon!

18. Truckfighters - Universe
Fuzzy rockers no One releases a nice piece of work with heavy riffing along with catchy lyrics.

17. Ancient Ascendant – Echoes And Cinder
Ancient Ascendant has dropped a powerful piece on the death metal scene. With it's
extremely effective technique will hook any Death Metal fans on this globe.

16. Monolord - Empress Rising

Empress Rising hooks you with it's, almost hypnotic way, around a huge layer of psychedelic space doom blended with a mix of stoner vibes and trippy heaviness that will take you off your dirty shoes and put you out somewhere else out there in the darkened space and leave you breathless.

15. Bloodbath – Grand Morbid Funeral

Sweden’s masters of horrors Bloodbath with Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) who now handles vocals shows that they still can make a record that will frighten most of the souls on this planet.

14. At The Gates – At War With Reality
What a comeback record, that At The Gates is able to deliver a record like this after 19 years is pretty cool.

13. Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways
The Foo Fighters are back with a freakin' fun album. A decent fist-pumping rock'n'roll record.

12. Mastodon – Once More Round The Sun
Once More Round The Sun is a non-stop journey into the progressive jungle of crazy math-y "Mastodon". It is a brilliant continuation of "The Hunter" but still its completely different and on such higher level.

11. Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
This dark beauty release is one of the better compositions of the year.

Todays tune comes in a hour or so.

Monolord - Empress Rising

A new week and that means it's time to reveal this weeks "Record Of The Week"

"Empress Rising" is the album début from Swedish psychedelic doomsters "Monolord"

Formed in 2013, this band is made up of Swedish rockers Thomas Jäger, Esben Willems, and Mika Häkki. Both Jäger and Willems were in the Swedish boogie rock band Marulk and started Monolord as a side project as a way to play some more heavier tunes, they quickly added Häkki (from The Don Darlings, ex Rotten Sound) and realized that they had something very special between the 3 of them. Monolord became very real very quickly and recording commenced in early 2013.

Thomas Jäger had not sung in a band before this one, but you would never know it by the sound of it. Having met EasyRider Records head hauncho Daniel Hall over instagram in May of 2014 when the record was ready to listen to, EasyRider was one of the first that it was sent to and picked up the band immediately after hearing the finished album that will come out worldwide on April 1, until then you will have to sit tight with this first offering of pure hellfire of unrestrained heavy doom that has the ability to shatter windows and put people into an induced coma.

"Empress Rising" is an excellent delivered début, almost mindblowing!!!

They have made a dark but well blended heavy doom album that kicks ass. A record that is filled with monotonous riffs that makes you to let go completely of the present time and soar among the clouds of the heavy wall of sound that is emitted from the speaker when the record is spinning on the turntable.

The album captures the vibes from great bands such as Kyuss, Sleep, Electric Wizard and Black Sabbath, in other words will satisfy all fans of heavy doom, stoner and guitar driven rock!

Just take the opening track, which is the title track and todays tune "Empress Rising", kicks of with a slow-paced riff before the heavy crunching drums finally kicks the album off in a big way, at this moment you are glued to the seat and wonder what the hell happend! And I tell you, it doesn't end here. Track two "Audhumbla" starts off with heavy low-end rumbling fuzz, an atmospheric trip out into the cosmos. And this is how it goes through the hole album, a very well-made début that keeps a high class straight through.

With it's, almost hypnotic way, around a huge layer of psychedelic space doom blended with a mix of stoner vibes and trippy heaviness that will take you off your dirty shoes and put you out somewhere else out there in the darkened space and leave you breathless.

Empress Rising is going to be one of this year's landmark in doom metal debut album and I belive it will end up pretty high when 2014 is going to be summored.

It's a must have record, nuff said!

Todays tune "Empress Rising" is the title track from "Record Of The Week", Enjoy it!
