October Tide - I, The Polluter

With a history tracing back to the epicentre of melodic death metal in Sweden, OCTOBER TIDE have come a long way and have generated a spark that is strongly felt in the energy of the scene. "In Splendor Below" is the latest addition to their vibrant discography of guitar-driven, emotive death/doom metal art.

OCTOBER TIDE consists of the founding member and long-time KATATONIA guitarist, Fredrik Norrman, his brother and guitarist Mattias Norrman (ex-KATATONIA), vocalist Alexander Högbom (DEMONICAL), bassist Johan Jönsegård (LETTERS FROM THE COLONY) and drummer Jonas Sköld (LETTERS FROM THE COLONY / THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT). While Fredrik prefers for the music to speak for itself, he finds the new album "a bit more aggressive, a bit more death metal, and with an overall colder feeling than previous records".

The band was formed in 1995 by KATATONIA members, Jonas Renkse (BLOODBATH) and Fred Norrman, OCTOBER TIDE spawned two, now-cult releases, "Rain Without End" (1997) and "Grey Dawn" (1999), before going on hiatus for over eleven years. In 2009 Norrman parted ways with KATATONIA, and resurrected OCTOBER TIDE, consolidating the band's reemergence with a new album titled "A Thin Shell", feat. Tobias Netzell of IN MOURNING on vocals. Since then, the band evolved through two more studio albums, "Tunnel Of No Light" (2013) and "Winged Waltz"(2016), both of which featured exceptional guitar work, on top of OCTOBER TIDE's emotional touch on death metal.

"In Splendor Below" album was mixed and mastered by Karl Daniel Lidén at Tri-Lamd studios (BLOODBATH, KATATONIA, BREACH, CRAFT). It was produced by Alexander Backlund from Nailvillage Studio (THENIGHTTIMEPROJECT / LETTERS FROM THE COLONY) and OCTOBER TIDE. Tomarum av Christine Linde created the cover artwork.

Watch OCTOBER TIDE's guitarists Fredrik and Mattias Norrman perform a playthrough of "I, The Polluter", the first single from "In Splendor Below" album, due out May 17th worldwide via Agonia Records.

Dimmu Borgir - Council Of Wolves And Snakes

Eerie shadows are lurking in the dark corners of spring 2018; the spirit that denies, a force able to distort our conception of space and time. Over seven years, deathlike silence has filled the halls of the world’s biggest black metal forge, DIMMU BORGIR, whilst powers have been gathering to resurrect the band right in time for their 25th anniversary. Now they finally mark their return with a vicious work of art that can be defined as timeless in the truest sense of the word: "Eonian".

"Eonian" is the tenth studio album by Norwegian black metal band DIMMU BORGIR, which was released on May 4, 2018.

Production of "Eonian" originally started at least in 2012 but faced many delays for years after. However, it was given an eventual official release date of May 4, 2018, which ended up being their first original studio album in nearly 8 years following 2010's "Abrahadabra". The band self-produced the album while the engineering was handled by Jens Bogren. DIMMU BORGIR had to re-sign to their current label Nuclear Blast and reflect on communication during the eight-year gap. During this gap, three of the band members became fathers and focused on their family life. When describing the album's sound, Silenoz stated that the symphonic metal parts are more symphonic while the black metal sound of DIMMU is more black metal this time around. In April, DIMMU BORGIR announced limited tour dates for the month of August 2018 that have expanded, check all the dates below.

DIMMU BORGIR (/ˌdɪmuː ˈbɔːrɡɪər/) is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The band has been through numerous lineup changes over the years; vocalist Shagrath and rhythm guitarist Silenoz are the only original members who still remain, with lead guitarist Galder being a longstanding member. On 28 May, it was announced that Victor Brandt (ENTOMBED A.D., FIRESPAWN) had officially joined as the band's new bassist.

Today's tune "Council Of Wolves And Snakes" is the second single taken from the latest album "Eonian", enjoy!

Tune Of The Days - 20 Best Albums of 2014 pos: 11-20

Now we almost reached the end of this year, December 20th and during this time of the year it's time to sum it all up with this year's best albums!

This have been a really, I mean really good year album wise, when I started to collect together all the good albums before this, I realized after a while that this does not really hold when you start approaching 3 digit :) Well after a few hours it starts to resemble to something like a top 20. It was really difficult task this year. In other words, it has simply been too much good records this year.

Many great records have unfortunately fallen off the list, but the music heart have decided and now when I look at it, it was not quite what I had expected from the beginning, which means that this list got to be very interesting. I am absolutely convinced that you not fully agree with me, but this is what I like. And luckily that the taste is divided, how else would it be.

First up we present this year's best albums between 20 - 11. Where you get the first 10 at once. Today's tune will be publish later on this evening. So here we go!

20. Accept - Blind Rage
The old-school metal band ACCEPT, with their third album within the five years since their re-launch. ACCEPT shows once again that they still can deliver a excellent record.

19. Electric Wizard - Time To Die
Electric Wizard Releases a cocky and modern doom canon!

18. Truckfighters - Universe
Fuzzy rockers no One releases a nice piece of work with heavy riffing along with catchy lyrics.

17. Ancient Ascendant – Echoes And Cinder
Ancient Ascendant has dropped a powerful piece on the death metal scene. With it's
extremely effective technique will hook any Death Metal fans on this globe.

16. Monolord - Empress Rising

Empress Rising hooks you with it's, almost hypnotic way, around a huge layer of psychedelic space doom blended with a mix of stoner vibes and trippy heaviness that will take you off your dirty shoes and put you out somewhere else out there in the darkened space and leave you breathless.

15. Bloodbath – Grand Morbid Funeral

Sweden’s masters of horrors Bloodbath with Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) who now handles vocals shows that they still can make a record that will frighten most of the souls on this planet.

14. At The Gates – At War With Reality
What a comeback record, that At The Gates is able to deliver a record like this after 19 years is pretty cool.

13. Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways
The Foo Fighters are back with a freakin' fun album. A decent fist-pumping rock'n'roll record.

12. Mastodon – Once More Round The Sun
Once More Round The Sun is a non-stop journey into the progressive jungle of crazy math-y "Mastodon". It is a brilliant continuation of "The Hunter" but still its completely different and on such higher level.

11. Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
This dark beauty release is one of the better compositions of the year.

Todays tune comes in a hour or so.

Bloodbath - Famine of God's Word

Sweden’s masters of horror, Bloodbath are set to release their fourth album of supreme death metal - Grand Morbid Funeral on 17th November 2014 with their new vocalist. Following the departure of Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt and months of speculation and rumour Metal Hammer have revealed Paradise Lost’s Nick Holmes as the new vocalist of Bloodbath.

Bloodbath is a Swedish death metal supergroup from Stockholm, formed in 1998. The band has released three full-length albums, two EPs and two DVDs depicting their performances at Wacken Open Air (in 2005) and Bloodstock Open Air (in 2010). The group comprises Martin Axenrot (Opeth), Anders Nyström (Katatonia), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost), and Per Eriksson, who was previously the guitar technician for both Bloodbath and Katatonia.

The band named themselves after the song "Blood Bath" from the album To the Gory End by Cancer. A year after being formed, the band, then consisting of Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) on vocals, Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale, etc.) on drums, Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström (Katatonia, Diabolical Masquerade) on guitar, and Jonas Renkse (Katatonia, October Tide) on bass, released their EP Breeding Death, followed two years later by their debut album Resurrection Through Carnage.

Blakkheim (guitars): Little did I expect to be working with the voice behind the death metal classic "Lost Paradise", or the genre defining "Gothic" and yet here we are decades later, fulfilling another death metal dream. With his sinister and ominous vocal delivery, it's an absolute pleasure to make Old Nick the bell-ringer in Bloodbath's grand morbid funeral!”

Jonas Renske (bass): "Ever since I got into "Lost Paradise" back in '90, Nick Holmes has been one of my fave growling vocalists out there. He was always audible and articulate but still deep and definitely morbid. It is a great pleasure to work with him some 25 years later after I was introduced to his thunderous roar!"

The album was recorded once again at Ghost Ward Studios and the City of Glass Studios in Stockholm, and mixed by David Castillo, this is Bloodbath’s fourth full-length studio release.
The new album also featuring a number of guest appearances including Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler from US gore-masters Autopsy, "Grand Morbid Funeral" is a new high-point of brutality for Bloodbath.

Bloodbath is set to appear on a string of festivals throughout 2015, including Inferno festival (Norway), Neurotic Deathfest (The Netherlands) and Maryland Deathfest (USA).

Todays tune "Famine of God's Word" is taken from the forthcoming album from Bloodbath "Grand Morbid Funeral"

Soilwork - Rise Above The Sentiment

Swedish metallers Soilwork have released a new video "Rise Above The Sentiment" of the upcoming album "The Living Infinite".

Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Helsingborg. They are currently signed to Nuclear Blast. Formed in late 1995 by Björn Strid and Peter Wichers, originally under the name Inferior Breed, the band changed their name in late 1996 to Soilwork (meaning "working from the ground up").

Their sound is a fusion of the classic Gothenburg metal sound with power-groove riffs of late 1970s, early 1980s British, and European metal. However, in their most recent albums, Soilwork has also introduced elements from other genres such as blues rock and alternative metal, and adopted a more melodic sound. Their most recent work has more singing and lighter melodies than their earlier work, as well as a more polished production.

Todays tune "Rise Above The Sentiment", The song comes off the band's ninth studio album and first dual-disc release, "The Living Infinite" the first double album in the history of melodic death metal!! Music video by Sune Eskelinen & Niclas Lindahl, is set to be released in February 27th (Asia), March 1st (EU), 4th (UK) and 5th, 2013. Produced by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath), the CD features artwork by MNEMIC's Mircea Eftemie Gabrie. "The Living Infinite" features Justin Sullivan lead singer of the English band New Model Army as a guest vocalist on the track "The Windswept Mercy" and also marks the recording debut of longtime Soilwork touring guitarist David Andersson (also of The Night Flight Orchestra).

Soilwork's world tour launches with a 55-show headlining trek through the U.S. and Canada this March. Support will come from Jeff Loomis, Blackguard, The Browning and Wretched.
