Blood Ceremony - Let it Come Down

BLOOD CEREMONY is a Canadian doom metal band formed in Toronto, Ontario. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2008, followed by Living with the Ancients in 2011, both on Rise Above Records. The albums were reissued on Metal Blade. BLOOD CEREMONY spent the latter part of 2009 touring throughout Europe with ELECTRIC WIZARD. During the latter part of 2011 and the early part of 2012, they supported GHOST on their European and North American tours. BLOOD CEREMONYs style has been described as "flute-tinged witch rock" and their lyrics are filled with black magic imagery and references to classic horror films. The band is fronted by singer/flutist/organist Alia O'Brien, whose flute solos are reminiscent of JETHRO TULLs Ian Anderson. The band was created by O'Brien with guitarist Sean Kennedy, who is responsible for most of the songwriting.

Following the success of last years globally acclaimed third album "The Eldritch Dark", BLOOD CEREMONY released a single "Let It Come Down". Released and recorded to coincide their European tour (with SPIDERS) in May (2014), "Let it Come Down" further displays the uniqueness of this Toronto based band. Conviction and dedication to what they do is so evident here, whilst the songwriting is sounding more confident than ever. Backed with a cover version of Loving You, originally recorded by early 70s obscure Scottish proto-metal legends, IRON CLAW, BLOOD CEREMONY are rapidly becoming legends themselves. Thier latest album release "Lord of Misrule" will be review later on as soon the Vinyl hits my door step.

Alabama Shakes - Don't Wanna Fight

ALABAMA SHAKES is a Grammy-winning American blues rock band formed in Athens, Alabama in 2009. The band currently consists of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell and drummer Steve Johnson. The group rose to prominence in the early 2010s with their distinctive and soulful roots rock sound.

The band began their career touring and performing at bars and clubs around the Southeast for two years while honing their sound and writing music. They recorded their debut album, Boys & Girls, themselves in Nashville while still unsigned. Online acclaim led ATO Records to sign the band, which released Boys & Girls in 2012 to acclaim. The album had a hit single, "Hold On," and was nominated for three Grammy Awards. After a long touring cycle, the band recorded their second record, Sound & Color, which was released in 2015 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

It's released as Deluxe heavyweight 180G edition on CLEAR or Black vinyl

The gatefold double LP also features an etched D-side.

Black Moth - Looner

BLACK MOTH rose from the Leeds underground scene at the end of the last decade, indulging their love for both SABBATH sulphur and STOOGES squalor.

Their debut "The Killing Jar", which was released in 2012, was hailed by many as one of the best debut album's you'll hear all year, it even made it onto Kerrang's top 50 albums of the year. Now with an expanded (guitar) lineup to expand the riffage comes the follow up, "Condemned To Hope".

Their long awaited second album, produced like their first by Jim Sclavunos (GRINDERMAN, NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS, THE CRAMPS) takes their kaleidoscopic heaviosity and sepulchral style to a whole new plateau of riff-driven dementia. A turbulent brew with just as much 60s garage rock bite, head-spinning psychedelia and "1991-The-Year-That-Punk-Broke" grit to offer as Vinum Sabbathi riffage. "Condemned To Hope" is where BLACK MOTH truly render themselves a glimmering presence in the firmament of 21st century rock. A band just as comfortable sharing the Temples festival bill with the likes of ELECTRIC WIZARD and NEUROSIS as they are alongside NICK CAVE, IGGY POP and DEBORAH HARRY on the forthcoming JEFFREY LEE PIERCE Sessions album "Axels And Sockets".

Purson - The Contract

The UK outfit PURSON, whose music touches a variety of realms, including folk, prog, psychedelic, gothic & classic rock, blending other-worldly romance with shadowy foreboding – have now completed work on "Desire’s Magic Theatre", which was released through Spinefarm on 29th April 2016. (A review will come as soon the Vinyl is on my doorstep.)

The band – Rosalie Cunningham (vocals, guitars), George Hudson (guitars), Justin Smith (bass), Sam Shove (keyboards) & Raphael Mura (drums) – have recently completed a 30-date US tour with label-mates GHOST, and have also just won the coveted ‘Vanguard’ award at the 2015 Progressive Music Awards in London. The Vanguard award is particularly significant as it is awarded to artists who deserve to be recognised for their broader appeal.

PURSONs debut album titled "The Circle And The Blue Door" was released on 29 April 2013 to general and critical acclaim. The title was inspired by an ex-boyfriend who had a breakdown. "The Circle and the Blue Door" was something he talked about before he broke down. Spin called the album "an audacious entry into a current crop of retro-pop headbanger fare that should chill the marrow of fans". Virgin wrote "Long before the last track has played its final note you will already be planning your next visit to this dark yet enchanting musical world. "The Circle & The Blue Door" is thoroughly addictive listening".

PURSON were due to be opening for GHOST every night of their Black to the Future 2015 tour.

Ume - Black Stone

Girls, Girls, Girls (female fronted), yeah that's this week's theme. This week we play female fronted rock bands. And yes, there is a lot of excellent bands out there that have a female behind the mick. I like it, it gives the sound a different approach if it's compared to a male fronted act. Anyway, let's get into today's band.

UME, is an Austin, TX trio. UME has grown a following the old-fashioned way, hitting the road in a broken van and ecstatically playing every show as if it were their last. The unrelenting and impassioned force that has made UME an acclaimed live band has finally been captured on a beautiful and massive record called "Monuments" (where we find today's tune).

The album has been recorded with Grammy-winning producer Adam Kasper (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, CAT POWER, FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA) at Robert Lang Studios and Studio X in Seattle, WA.

"Monuments" is UMEs most colossal sounding recording yet. The guitars are heavier, the rhythms more powerful, the vocals and songwriting bolder and more intimate. It's simply a distorted raw garage guitar-driven rock with unbridled passion!

Kylesa - Unspoken

Monday, New Week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

This week we have a band who embrace every musical element within the stoner rock umbrella and then some is the heavy psychedelic, sludge rock outfit KYLESA.

The band is Hailing from Savannah, Georgia and emerged along with their hometown companions (MASTODON and BARONESS) and like them, quickly built a hardened fanbase because of their explosive live shows and fantastic records. That is where the comparison ends however because KYLESA are a different beast entirely.

The group was established in 2001 by the former members of DAMAD, with the addition of guitar player Laura Pleasants who is from North Carolina. The band has since undergone line up changes; the remaining original members are Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. In 2006, the band added two drummers (Carl McGinley of UNPERSONS, from Savannah, and Jeff Porter). Eric Hernandez (of CAPSULE, from Miami) joined in 2008 to replace Porter. The dual drum tracks are often panned strongly to the right and left.

This week's "Record Of The Week" is one of the bands greatest musical record lies in the form of their 2013 hard rock masterpiece "Ultraviolet"

The album have a marvelous atmosphere, where riffs, hooks and just about everything else makes this an fantastic album. Just takes today's tune, the headbanger "Unspoken", where the drums really have a workout session along with the chanting soundscape. The album opener "Exhale" have a really noisy attitude with hard hitting slow riffs and "What Does It Take" continues on the same path but with one gear higher, both are a real screamadelicas. "Grounded" a heavy stoner piece, with some noisy parts. "Long Gone" have a more experimental popish way with dreamy vocals. "Steady Breakdown" is a nice piece, a real riff monster. "Low Tide" is a smooth piece where Pleasants and Cope makes a really beautiful vocal performance.

Sum:

"Ultraviolet" incorporates experimentalism with heavy riffs, drop-tuned guitars and elements of psychedelic rock with some noisy sludge, what else do you need?

On April 28, 2016, the band announced in Facebook post that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus, stating, "We have collectively decided to take a hiatus with no set date to reconvene".

To our fans and friends… After 15 years of nonstop touring and writing, we decided that it is time for a break. A lot of you have been asking when we are coming to your part of the world and that means a lot to us. However, we feel it should be known that as of now we have no plans to play any shows or work on any new material. We have collectively decided to take a hiatus with no set date to reconvene. We want to give a huge thanks to all our fans, friends, and family for the support over the years. It has been a killer journey and a real pleasure meeting so many amazing people along the way.

We will keep up with our socials as well as this website.

Mötley Crüe - Wild Side

Sunday, time for a Classic tune.

"Wild Side" is a single by the American heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. It was released on their 1987 album Girls, Girls, Girls.

Nikki Sixx described "Wild Side" as more complex compared to some of the simpler songs on the album. It is one of the few Mötley Crüe songs that changes in time signature. Sixx had written the song during the most dangerous part of his heroin addiction. He mentioned this in The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rockstar.

The song's tempo is 118 beats per minute and the main riff uses a chord progression of A minor 7th, D sus, and D minor, on a guitar using distortion. On the Guitar Tuning, they often used Tune-Down Whole-Step from standard E-A-D-G-B-E to D-G-C-F-A-D as their own set of discretion.

The song has been a staple at live concerts and has not been left off the setlist since its release. It is usually accompanied by a tremendous amount of pyrotechnics, and is always a crowd pleaser. As the song does not have a guitar solo only some melodic lead guitar lines, a 'drum solo' is used when Tommy Lee plays in a suspended, rotating drum cage over the crowd.
