"Ordinary Love" is a song by rock band U2. It was written to honour Nelson Mandela and is included in the biography film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The song will be given a limited 10" vinyl release on Record Store Day. "Ordinary Love" is the first song by U2 since 2010. The song was released on November 29, 2013, less than a week before Mandela died.
U2 had been friends with Nelson Mandela for years. When movie producer Harvey Weinstein invited the band to write a song for the film's soundtrack, they responded with a quick "yes" according to Weinstein. After seeing early cuts of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, U2 were inspired to write a song reflecting upon Mandela. The song was mixed at Electric Lady Studios, New York.
A big and important man has passed away, we honor him with a tune related to him!

Bono remembers Nelson Mandela.
'It was as if he was born to teach the age a lesson in humility, in humour and above all else in patience.
In the end, Nelson Mandela showed us how to love rather than hate, not because he had never surrendered to rage or violence, but because he learnt that love would do a better job. Mandela played with the highest stakes. He put his family, his country, his time, his life on the line, and he won most of these contests. Stubborn til the end for all the right reasons, it felt like he very nearly outstared his maker.
Today, finally, he blinked. And some of us cry, knowing our eyes were opened to so much because of him.’
