Mastodon - Oblivion

Atlanta-based sludge/stoner/alternative metal outfit Mastodon formed in 1999. Contains the talents of guitarist Bill Kelliher, drummer Bränn Dailor, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, and guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds. Mastodon is one of the more notable New Wave of American Heavy Metal acts, a genre spawned in the mid-'90s by bands like Pantera, Biohazard, and Machine Head, Mastodon's innovative, lyrically astute blend of progressive metal, grindcore, and hardcore helped position the band as one of the preeminent metal acts of the early 21st century.

Mastodon fourth studio album "Crack the Skye" has been running on my ipod for some time now and yesterday when i was painting with "Crack the Skye" in my ears, that this is a hell of a album, one of the best albums last year, almost that i could say the best album of 2009. Also notice that many has had the record as the top 10 record for last year. The album features seven tracks and clocks in at 50 minutes and 3 seconds. I got the vinyl version, the art of the album is super, what an artist Paul Romano is, who also has contributed to Mastodon's albums in the past.

Todays tune "Oblivion" is the second single from album. The video went on to win Best Video at the 2009 Kerrang! Awards. It was stated by Brann Dailor that the video had influence from Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. An instrumental version of "Oblivion" appears on the video game, Brütal Legend. Enjoy!

VAST - Tattoo of Your Name

VAST is comprised of one man and one man only: Jon Crosby. The songwriter grew up in Humboldt County, CA, and was profiled as a promising guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine at the age of 13.

He was nearly signed to the guitar-based label Shrapnel, but he turned down the offer and focused on honing his songwriting chops instead. Crosby soon left high school to do home study, and he began assembling a band in order to perform some demos he recorded all by himself, under the name VAST. Although he was able to play shows, the band proved to be a revolving door of members, with Crosby serving as the frontman and focal point.

The acronym VAST stands for Visual Audio Sensory Theater and is the main creation of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Crosby.

Todays tune is take from his fifth album "April" and was released in October 16, 2007. April differs greatly from past VAST albums in sound. Quiet ambient electronics play behind large acoustic guitars and Crosby's voice with drums to lead the rhythm.

Regarding the album, Crosby said "Some people may think all VAST albums are about loss but I would say the first album was about conflict, the second about longing for freedom, and the third about beauty. These songs were written during a time in my life were I was going through the deep loss of my lover and the loss of all my money from bad deals and bad labels. The result was that I was down and didn't treat myself very well.

I put all those feelings into this record and it’s something I’m very proud of. While it’s true that I will always feel most proud of my latest effort, I do however feel that this record comes from my heart and that in itself makes it a success if only artistic. I only have a few albums like this in me. This and my first album are my favorite albums to date."

There are two versions of the album, Retail and Online, both featuring different track listing and different mixes. However, the Retail version is the final, mastered mix of the release.

Releases:

* Visual Audio Sensory Theater (1998) Elektra
* Music for People (2000) Elektra

ZZ Top - La Grange

Time for another classic tune!!!
ZZ Top have done many butt kicking songs.
They have influences from BB King, Freddy King,
Moody Waters etc.

ZZ Top are Billy Gibbons vocals and guitar,
Joseph Dusty Hill vocals, bass, and keyboards,
and Frank Beard drums and percussion.

One of their concert when they werent that known,
they came in with Boots (Cowboy boots)
Jeans and a cowboy hat.
The audience felt like HORROR Oh noo country music,
then Beard hit his drums, then they knew :D

To be only 3 guys they sound very good.
ZZ Top started back in 1969 they are
from Texas. One can really hear that
when they start talking :)

ZZ Top almost always appear in public wearing sunglasses
(a practice that predates by a decade their 1979
song "Cheap Sunglasses").
Gibbons and Hill wear similar black clothing
(usually biker leathers)
and black cowboy hats or baseball caps.
Gibbons may wear black biker boots and
neck chains with beer can openers.
Although Gibbons and Hill wear chest-length beards,
drummer Beard sports only a trimmed mustache.

Ill give you La Grange, with a crazy audience
(I kinda recognise the securitys work hehe) :)
And of course with ZZ Top!!

Cheers Dudes and Dudettes, Thetania

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

The greatest favorites ever!
The greatest band ever!
The greatest guitar player ever!

I can go on for ever..

They were formed back in 1968, they did 9 studio albums between 1969 - 1982

This tune Stairway To Heaven, featured Jimmy on double-necked guitar,
which gives him a twelve string and six string sound on the same instrument.
An excellent ballad.

Stairway To Heaven first took shape in December 1970,
as Zeppelin were limbering up for their fourth album.
Jimmy Page was tinkering with the riff by the fire at Headley Grange,
a big Victorian mansion in Hampshire that the band had hired for rehearsal,
when Robert Plant suddenly plucked the lyrics out of the air.
"I was holding a pencil and paper," Plant later recalled, "all of a sudden my hand was writing out the words…
I just sat there and looked at them,
and almost leapt out of my seat!

Did u guys know that as of January 7, 1991,
"Led Zeppelin IV" had been certified platinum times
ten (ten million copies sold).

Ah well lets hear and see this great band and this great song!

Hugs, Thetania

Ted Nugent - Stranglehold

When I was a teen I totally fell inlove in his way to make those exiting noise and harmony on his guitar...

I recently encountered this video and Hey this man really still have it.

Who is this Ted Nugent:One thing that he did recently is that he wrote a cook book called "Kill it and Grill it" :D

Born on December 13, 1948, in Detroit, MI,
Nugent became interested in rock & roll early in the game,
picking up the guitar as a youngster,
while his disciplinarian father passed his beliefs down to Nugent.

Performing professionally since 1958,
Nugent has been touring annually since 1967,
averaging more than 300 shows per year (1967–73),
200 per year (1974–80), 150 (1981–89), 127 concerts in 1990,
162 concerts in 1991, 150 concerts in 1993, 180 in 1994, 166 in 1995,
81 in 1996, Summer Blitz '97, '98, Rock Never Stops '99,
133 concerts with KISS 2K.
Nugent's 2005 plans involved a tour with country music
singer-songwriter Toby Keith, whom Nugent met in Iraq while they were both performing in USO-sponsored shows for the coalition troops.

Nugent has gotten involved in politics, hosting a number
one morning radio show in Detroit,
has issued his own hunting camp and issues instructional videotapes
as well as the Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild PBS video series),
owns his own hunting supply store, has been appointed
to the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association,
writes columns regularly for a number of different magazines,
and even sells his very own beef jerky (called Gonzo Meat Biltong)!
In 2001, the Nuge penned his own autobiography, the perfectly
titled God, Guns, & Rock n' Roll.

Busy guy!

This tune is called "Stranglehold" and it is a single and the
first track from Ted Nugent 's self-titled 1975 album.

Enjoy Folks!

Cheers, Thetania

Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son

Kansas is an American Progressive Rock band which became popular in the 70s. They have remained a classic rock radio staple and a popular touring act in North America and Europe.

Todays tune is picked from the bands fourth album "Leftoverture", released in 1976. The album begins with the hit single "Carry On Wayward Son," a song which has become a classic rock anthem. Kerry Livgren wrote the song as a sequel to the final song, "The Pinnacle," from the previous album, Masque. Because of this song's popularity, Kansas is often misclassified as an AOR (Album Oriented Rock) band, when in fact the majority of their catalogue (at least with their original line-up) is progressive rock. The album is a nice piece of Rock, nice melodies and interesting lyrics mixed with good riffs and alot of keyboard, check it up, you can listen to it on Spotify.

Todays tune is "Carry On Wayward Son", because of its lyrics, the song is often misnamed as "Carry On My Wayward Son".
Its the greatest single Kansas did, a song that is powerful, pompous, ridiculous and catchy all at once.

AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie

AC/DC returns to Sweden!! AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Although the band are commonly classified as hard rock and are considered a pioneer of heavy metal, they have always classified their music as rock and roll.

AC/DC have been visiting Sweden 2 times last year, did 2 sold out evenings at The Globe in Stockholm and 1 sold out show at Ullevi on Gothenburg. AC/DC will be back again, they will do a show at Stadion in Stockholm the 3:rd june.

Todays tune "Whole Lotta Rosie". It is on the band's fourth album, "Let There Be Rock", released in Australia in March 1977, released as a single in 1978. The song is about an obese woman, Rosie, with whom the singer (Bon Scott) has had sexual relations. In addition to pointing out the woman's obesity, the singer finds her to be one of the most talented lovers he's ever experienced.

Current live performances of "Whole Lotta Rosie" are accompanied by a giant, inflatable "Rosie". Rosie can also be seen during the cartoon intro video currently being played on the Black Ice World Tour.

This is the music video for the song "Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC, form the album "Let There Be Rock". The video was made in 1978. It can be found on the DVD "Family Jewels".

Judas Priest - Love Bites

Today its time for the "Metal Gods" Judas Priest. The bands 9th studio album "Defenders of the Faith" was one of my favorites during the 80's. The album was recorded at Ibiza Sound Studios, Spain. The LP & cassette tape were released on January 4, 1984 and later appeared on CD in July. A re-mastered CD was released in May 2001. Three tracks were released as singles, "Freewheel Burning", "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" and "Love Bites".

"Rising from darkness where Hell hath no mercy and the screams for vengeance echo on forever. Only those who keep the faith shall escape the wrath of the Metallian... Master of all metal."

An interesting little-known fact: "Freewheel Burning" was originally released as a single in 1983 shortly before the "Defenders Of The Faith" album release. The 12" maxi-single features a dual-guitar intro to the song that didn't make the final album-cut. Unfortunately, Priest missed the opportunity to include this rare intro on The Re-Masters version of the album.

Todays tune is Love Bites, Enjoy!

Aerosmith - Hole In My Soul

Wanted something classic,
the first band that came up was Aerosmith.

Great song and always so well written lyrics :)

The band was born in a town called Boston in 1970.
Guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton,
originally in a band together called the Jam Band,
they met up with singer Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer,
and guitarist Ray Tabano, and formed Aerosmith.

Whats worth knowing about Aerosmith is; that they are
THE best-selling American hard rock band of all time,
having sold more than 150 million albums worldwide,
including 66.5 million albums in the United States alone.
They also hold the record for the most gold
and multi-platinum albums by an American group.
That is something huh?!

Ah well I let you enjoy this very great tune,
"Hole in my soul"

Thin Lizzy - Cold Sweat

Thunder and Lightning is the twelfth and final studio album by heavy-rock band Thin Lizzy, released in 1983. Thunder and Lightning offered a heavier sound and guitar tone than previous albums, influenced by the guitar playing of John Sykes. However, the actual songwriting (Except for "Cold Sweat") was completed before he joined the band. Keyboard player Darren Wharton offered a stronger musical influence to Thin Lizzy's final studio album, co-writing many of the tracks including "Some Day she is Going to Hit Back" which featured a jazz like chord sequence in the intro.

Todays tune "Cold Sweat". It was featured on their final studio album Thunder and Lightning and was co-written by new guitarist John Sykes, with Phil Lynott. The song became the biggest single from the album. The song is also known for Sykes’ fast and complicated guitar solo, which features a lot of tapping - a playing style that only Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, and a few others, had been using to that date.

Thin Lizzy - Cold Sweat (thunder and lightning tour 83). Live in Hitchin London.

The German Thrash metal band Sodom did a cover of the song on their 1990-album Better off Dead.
The German Power metal band Helloween produced a cover version of this song for their 1994 EP Perfect Gentleman.
The Norwegian Heavy metal Band Jorn covered the song on their 2007 cover album Unlocking the Past.
The thrash metal supergroup Dublin Death Patrol also recorded a cover of the song for their debut album DDP 4 Life.

Christian Death - Angels and Drugs

Christian Death is an American deathrock, goth band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979. The band was founded by Rozz Williams. The band has gone thru many and i mean many line up changes, at one point during the 1990s there were two bands with the name Christian Death. The Black Crowes - Good Morning Captain

Today at work i needed something that would thrill me up a bit, tried to find something on Spotify that was groovy and finally ended up with the Crowes and notice that it was a long time ago i heard Chris Robinson vocals, have been listening to the album "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze" an album that was recorded before a live audience at Levon Helm's Woodstock, NY studio, The Barn in late February and early March, 2009. The album is full off American bluegrass and bluesy rock & roll country. Its a great album that's for sure have to be part off my record collection. So for today i take a tune form the album for you folks.

The Black Crowes performing "Good Morning Captain" from their new double album "Before The Frost...Until The Freeze" on Letterman 9/1/09. Note Steve Gorman's cool new drumhead! Enjoy!

The Baseballs - Umbrella

The Baseballs is a German Rock'n'roll cover band founded in Berlin in 2007. They became popular with rock'n'roll versions in the style of the 50s of modern hits such as Umbrella by Rihanna and Hot'n Cold by Katy Perry.

Well, if this song was released back in the 50's this would have been a huge hit, that i am almost sure at. Even if i not into music as Rihanna or Katy Perry, the tune "Umbrella" is a real head glue. I have earlier post a little heavier version of this tune with the Swedish band "Lillasyster", the link for that one is below if interested.

The Baseballs new record "Strike" includes the tunes as "Umbrella", "Hot N Cold" also some great done covers as Ushers "Love In This Club" and Roxette's "The Look among others. A nice word from one of the members that calls himself Basti

"If you wanted to rebel against your parents you just had to grow a forelock and put on a leather jacket," "Nowadays you can hardly shock your parents anymore - unless you decide to become an investment banker." :)

Todays tune "Umbrella" done by The Baseballs. The song was written by Terius Nash, Christopher Stewart, Kuk Harrell and Jay-Z and produced by Stewart.

Trivia : Todays tune was written with American pop superstar Britney Spears in mind, with whom Stewart had previously worked with in the 2003 song "Me Against the Music". Stewart and Nash thought that Spears, who had "her personal life ... a little out of control" at the time, needed a hit as musical comeback. Spears was working on her fifth album, Blackout, so they sent a copy of the demo to Spears' management. However, Spears did not hear of the song because her label rejected it, claiming they had enough songs for her to record.

Jim Jones Revue - Princess And The Frog

The Jim Jones Revue, a English explosive rock'n'roll band. Jim Jones has been a part of some amazing bands (Thee Hypnotics & Black Moses) and The Revue is yet another one. It’s different stylistically but energy-wise it’s much like Thee Hypnotics “Liv’r Than God”. The Jim Jones Revue have been described as sounding like a car crash between Little Richard and The MC5. Their debut was recorded live on four track in 48 hours. The 10-track set is an album full of riffs you’ve probably heard before, with traditional Rock-n-Roll themes, dirty blues ass-shakin' boogie and it's Loud, the album is full of influences like Jerry Lee, The Sonics, MC5 and Elvis. The album is great played with well written songs mastered by a bunch of crazy guys!

The guys are out on a maniac tour at the moment, see tour dates below.

Todays tune "Princess and The Frog” The track kicks off with the distorted broken down honky tonk piano of Elliot Mortimer before the rest of the band crashes in like a dynamite. Enjoy!

Mary J. Blige - Stronger

I´m in the mood of some totally different.

There is one lady that I admire a lot.
Mary J Blige..
She produces her albums and sings like a godess.

I said b4 that this song comes from her new album but..
hardrocker as I am, I was so wrong :p
So Sorry about that!

Anyway this is a great song.

Groovy, Thetania
