All Them Witches - Nothing As The Ideal

Monday, time for "Record Of The Week".

"Nothing As The Ideal" is the sixth full-length studio release for the Nashville psychedelic-rock band ALL THEM WITCHES, the album was recorded at Abbey Road with producer Mikey Allred.

"Nothing As The Ideal" is only forty-three minutes long, divided over eight track and is the band’s shortest album to date. As the band recently becoming a power trio after five albums as a quartet one could imagine that this album would sound diffrent, specially on the dynamic level, but for the most part the overall sound is pretty similar as the previous releases. It's full of blues-inflected heavy psych rock and americana that have gotten to be thier signature mix. The album has a very aggressive approch, if you compre to the precursor release, this is apparently noticeable in the gtoovy and more aggressive heavy rock tunes "Enemy Of My Enemy" and "Lights Out", with this they still prooves that can offers some new creative things and gives us as a listner a great variety of the bands composing, take the more moodier and psycadelic offer "See You Next Fall", near to ten-minutes of deep mysterious vibes, to the meandering jams like "Saturnine & Iron Jaw" to cool down with the ballad "Everest" or the marvelous americana piece "The Children Of Coyote Woman", the bass heavy "41" that have a post-metal feeling and some heavy riffing, shows another side of the band. The powerful stripped-down "Rats In Ruin" closes the album, slow and dark begining until the very end when it changes direction to a wonderful jam. "Nothing As The Ideal" is an excellent release from these guys and still after a handful of turns, I rejoice in their work.

Sum: "Nothing As The Ideal" is a surprising and delightful release.

The band consists of:
Drummer Robby Staebler,
Vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Charles Michael Parks Jr.,
Guitarist Ben McLeod.

Today's tune "The Children Of Coyote Woman", taken from "Nothing As The Ideal", released September 4th. "'The Children of Coyote Woman' is a retelling of the founding of Rome through a southern perspective," ATW frontman Charles Michael Parks Jr. tells us. "Two brothers fight to see who will control the region after the passing of their mother, a woman so fierce and legendary that people would rather leave their homes than get in her way. Though powerful, though fierce, their lives exist in a minuscule blip in the universe and are still tied to the struggles and hardships of trying to survive in the poor rural south.

"In my mind, there are a lot of similarities between the Roman empire and the USA. The same essence of power and ingenuity, as well as it's brutal conquests for resources. The founding fathers undoubtedly studied the reign of the Caesars and chose it as a model for their new republic."

Rival Sons - Until the Sun Comes

Number 2 on the seasonal best album list on Tune Of The Day, goes to the American Blues-Rock band "Rival Sons" with their album "Head Down".

In 2007 Scott Holiday left his previous band and signed with Atlantic Records to form a band in a more hard rock/blues rock vein. Teaming with drummer Mike Miley and bassist Robin Everhart, they set off in search of a vocalist. Holiday discovered Jay Buchanan and suggested him to the band. Miley had known Buchanan for years, and asked him to join the band; after initially declining, Buchanan agreed to join.

In June 2009 the band digitally self-released their first album, Before the Fire. In 2010 the band signed with Earache Records and released a self-titled EP, followed by their first full length, Pressure & Time. In 2012, the band played on the second stage at Download Festival before again entering the studio for a recording session for their latest album. Head Down was released on September 17, 2012 and lead to a tour of Europe

Rival Sons is not just a retro nostalgia band, far from it. With their influences have they created something of their own, and with "Head Down", the band has developed and does it with panache. With their innovative rock of artistic achievement, the album is a must in the record shelf.

Todays tune "Until the Sun Comes" is taken from Rival Sons third studio album "Head Down"

Dryasdust - Cold Sweat

Today we steer the ship to our neighbour country where we find the Finnish power trio that stands in the midst of the American South and inhales influences from early 70's.

Dryasdust's latest Demo is out now, released 01 October 2012. At first listen, I realize that I vibrate throughout the entire body to the dirty riffs and like what I hear! It's a very tight ensemble, a mix of blues influenced progressions and some classical scales with a great switching on the riffs. The Vocal part is actually really good, thought you can hear faintly a small Finnish accent. However in the whole is this very good and awaits the full length album with excitement.

Members of Dryasdust:
Antti - Vocals & Guitars
Janne - Bass
Pentele - Drums

All Songs and lyrics by Antti except lyrics to track 5 by Pentele. All arrangements by Dryasdust. Recorded in summer 2012 by Pentele in Dryasdust's rehearsal place. Mixed and mastered by Matias Helle at Drophammer studio. Moog on track 1 by Tommi Salomaa. Cover art by Markus Räisänen.

Monster Truck - Seven Seas Blues

Today we travel a bit north and stops in Canada were we find a Blues Rock Band "Monster Truck" from Hamilton. The band plays a tonal hybrid of the excitement of 70's rock melded with the best elements of what the 90's had to offer. Which could summarize the diesel-smelling classic rock riffs and powerful vocals.

The band was formed in 2009 by Jon Harvey (Bass & Lead vocals), Jeremy Widerman (Guitar & Vocals), Brandon Bliss (Organ & Vocals) and Steve Kiely (Drums & Vocals) as somewhat of a side-project for their other more serious bands (The Reason, Saint Alvia). Quickly the original plan of getting wasted and playing sloppy rock got twisted into something new entirely. Everyone's influences gelled in a cohesive and exciting new take on all of the classic rock that had come before them. Quickly show offers piled up as well as festival slots and the band realized that they had something that was undeniably fun and exciting on their hands.

Two EP's have been released since the band's inception. The first self-titled EP was recorded by Gus Van Go & Werner F (The Stills, Preistess, Hollerado) and was received with open arms and ears by eager fans in August of 2010. Eager to follow up the recording the band hit the studio and tracked “The Brown EP” with Eric Ratz (Billy Talent, Cancer Bats, Three Days Grace). The four songs it contains not only shows a firm grasp of the classic roots that enabled this group but also their ability to add in flavours of grunge and punk era greats they loved so dearly.

Today's music is actually based on a tip from a good colleague "Jojje" which actually share the taste in music with me, which is fun when you can juggle bands between each other.

Todays tune "Seven Seas Blues" is taken from their second ep “The Brown EP”.

The band is also so nice that they gives away the EP, download it here. Support the band with buying a t-shirt or a CD.

Huey Lewis and The News - The Power of Love

We missed the nostalic trip we usually have on sundays..Im sorry about that.

So tonight, Ive been listening on some 80´s thingies..
Huey Lewis And The News was really 80´s wasent it?!

The film..Back To The Future I loved it, didnt u?

What happen to him..Huey?

Well he coninued to play with his band..and had some releases.
In 1984, Ray Parker Jr. was signed by the producers of Ghostbusters to develop the film's title song. Later that year, Huey Lewis and the News sued Parker, citing the similarities between the "Ghostbusters" song and their earlier hit "I Want a New Drug". According to Huey Lewis and the News, this was especially damaging to them since "Ghostbusters" was so popular, rising to number one on the charts for three weeks. Parker and Lewis later settled out of court. Huey Lewis has stated that his experiences with the producers of Ghostbusters may have been indirectly responsible for getting his band involved with the movie Back to the Future.

Ye ye...ok so thats was back in the 80´s but wot then?

On July 24, 2001, the band released their highly anticipated Plan B album, which contains many all-original songs that the band really enjoys playing. The first single from the album was "Let Her Go and Start Over." It was followed by a duet with Wynonna Judd titled "I'm Not In Love Yet."

Also in 2001, the VH1 musician biography TV Show "Behind the Music" aired an episode about Huey Lewis and the News. Many regulars of this website contributed information or memorabilia for the show.

While most of the founding members of the band are an active part of Huey Lewis and the News (Mario left the band in 1994, Chris left in 2001), they are also always adding their talents to side projects. Many of these are appearances on other musicians' albums.

After that they continued and here are their tour plan:

Aerosmith - Walk This Way

I was going to do our next gig on Tune Of The Day.....but..eh
NO..To much softish tunes in a couple of days.

Im an extreme fan of Aerosmith..among...some :D

Therefore I Just have to make a break with some of their music.

"Think for a second about how big a number that is and how many people have heard their music. Huge! Steven Tyler on vocals, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford on guitars, Tom Hamilton on bass, and Joey Kramer on drums. They’ve outdone the trends and fads of rock and roll to become one of the most powerful and electrifying forces in popular music".

Its so damn true!!!!

Europe - Not Supposed To Sing The Blues

Today a video has been released from the Swedish band Europe!
And I can tell u this much, that its really good and bluesy.

Its time that peeps get rid of their believe that Europe is a nice boy band...
Since 2004 they changed their music a lot. The music nowa days is something else than Final Countdown.

Europe are going to release the new album, "Bag of Bones" (Gain / Sony Music)
It will be released on April 25.

The disc is the band's ninth studio album is recorded in Atlantis Studio and produced and mixed by legendary Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Black Stone Cherry).

Kevin Shirley has this time elicited a bit more edgy and bluesy sound of the band. This, combined with Joey Tempest always so great melodies and John Norums guitar playing of world class standard. On the album including guest appearances as blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa and Kiss mythical drummer Anton Fig on percussion.

Regarding the new CD title, EUROPE drummer Ian Haugland said, "It's not [called 'Bag Of Bones'] because we all have lost tons of weight or found a new interest in archeology or dogs... It's just because it sounds fuckin' cool!"
