Mastodon - Oblivion

Atlanta-based sludge/stoner/alternative metal outfit Mastodon formed in 1999. Contains the talents of guitarist Bill Kelliher, drummer Bränn Dailor, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, and guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds. Mastodon is one of the more notable New Wave of American Heavy Metal acts, a genre spawned in the mid-'90s by bands like Pantera, Biohazard, and Machine Head, Mastodon's innovative, lyrically astute blend of progressive metal, grindcore, and hardcore helped position the band as one of the preeminent metal acts of the early 21st century.

Mastodon fourth studio album "Crack the Skye" has been running on my ipod for some time now and yesterday when i was painting with "Crack the Skye" in my ears, that this is a hell of a album, one of the best albums last year, almost that i could say the best album of 2009. Also notice that many has had the record as the top 10 record for last year. The album features seven tracks and clocks in at 50 minutes and 3 seconds. I got the vinyl version, the art of the album is super, what an artist Paul Romano is, who also has contributed to Mastodon's albums in the past.

Todays tune "Oblivion" is the second single from album. The video went on to win Best Video at the 2009 Kerrang! Awards. It was stated by Brann Dailor that the video had influence from Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. An instrumental version of "Oblivion" appears on the video game, Brütal Legend. Enjoy!
