Thursday, time for a cover.
"Solitude" is a tune by English rock band BLACK SABBATH, it was released on the third studio album "Master Of Reality" on 21 July 1971. It is regarded by some critics as the foundation of doom metal, stoner rock, and sludge metal.
Today's cover is a stripped down and very beautiful version of the tune. It's made by the Boston, Massachusetts based fine artist Marissa Nadler. Singing in a mezzo-soprano, Nadler has received acclaim for her vocals. Her voice is really beautiful and touching, or as Pitchfork described her voice as one "you would follow straight into Hades".
The cover is released on the Sacred Bones release "What Is This That Stands Before Me?", a compilation of SABBATH covers recorded by artists from across our roster. The clip I found is live at Jazzhouse, Cph. 11.7.2017, Enjoy!
