Korn - Start The Healing

"Start the Healing" is a song by American nu metal band KORN, released as the first single from their fourteenth studio album "Requiem".

Recording during the pandemic gave the band an opportunity to experiment, and this song finds them adding new-wave influences. "There's still that core sound there, but this time we did this we had the luxury, we were on a forced time-out," Davis told Audacy's Carlota. "We had all the time in the world."

The music video for Start the Healing was directed by Tim Saccenti, known for his work with RUN THE JEWELS, FLYING LOTUS, and DEPECHE MODE. 3D artist Anthony Ciannamea also assisted with visuals. The music video was leaked a day ahead of its intended release, revealing Fieldy's absence from the video. It amassed over 500,000 views within the first 24 hours of its official release.

Featuring scenes described as "ethereal" and "otherworldly", the music video is largely influenced by surrealism and body horror. The band is seen playing throughout, among the presence of humanoid entities, mutating beasts, and what appear to be aliens.

"Our idea for this video was to mutate that aspect of the DNA of KORN, of what makes them so inspiring, their mix of raw power and transportive aesthetics and human emotion. I wanted to take the viewer on an emotional journey, as the song does, a visceral, cathartic death and rebirth that will hopefully help transport the listener through whatever their personal struggles are. Collaborating with 3D artist Anthony Ciannamea, we tapped into KORN's mythology and explored their vast well of light and darkness to create a surreal, liminal-pace body-horror nightmare." - Tim Saccenti

KXM - Scatterbrain

“Scatterbrain” is the all new sophomore release from the super-group KXM comprised of drummer Ray Luzier (KoRn), guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB) and KING'S X front man dUg Pinnick and is the follow up album to their highly successful 2014 self-titled debut release which landed at #31 on the Billboard Top 200.

“Scatterbrain” features 13 brand new tracks and was recorded at the Steakhouse Studio in North Hollywood California where the band once again tapped Chris “The Wizard” Collier (FLOTSAM & JETSAM/PRONG/LAST IN LINE) to engineer the new effort.

Speaking about the recording process for KXM’s new record, vocalist dUg Pinnick comments, “We wrote all the songs right on the spot and immediately recorded them, everyone doing his part and no one telling the other one what or how to play, just like the previous album!”. Drummer Ray Luzier adds “We wanted to use the same formula as the 1st KXM record…book studio time, come in fresh every day with a new idea, run with it and not over think anything” .

Basically it was “Record-topia”, we showed up in the studio, camped out with a bunch of gear and let the tape roll!” states guitarist George Lynch. “Just like the first album, no pre-production, no rehearsal, no pre-written songs, every song was written as a product of an in-studio jam session!”

On the topic of the musical direction and overall vibe of the new album Ray recently told Modern Drummer Magazine; “It's a darker record than the first one, it's really heavy and it’s very soulful with dUg's voice leading the way". Ray further describes the direction of the new album, “There is some straight ahead rock, bits of prog, ska and tons of dynamics, there is a lot involved but it still sounds like KXM!” KXM “Scatterbrain” was released in March 17, 2017.

Today's tune "Scatterbrain" is the title tune from the latest album, a tune with it's infectious riff and breaks will probably hook you on!

Stone Sour - Fabuless

"Hydrograd" is the upcoming sixth studio album by American rock band STONE SOUR. Recorded at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, it is the follow-up to the band's 2012–2013 double concept album, "House of Gold & Bones Part 1 and 2". It is set to be released on June 30, 2017 via Roadrunner Records.

According to Johny Chow, the record is said to be a departure from previous STONE SOUR albums, more of a rock-and-roll album. He also mentions that the album has more of a groove feel to it and very melodic with large choruses added to it. Corey Taylor has praised the album by saying, "It's probably one of the best records we have done since the first SLIPKNOT album." They also had recorded 18 songs, but some of them were cut from the final record.

First taste from "Hydrograd" is the new song "Fabuless" for a raging crowd of inflatable doppelgänger fans in the first video.

STONE SOUR have a handful of festival dates scheduled for this May, after which they'll embark on a full summer tour with KORN. The trek begins June 16th in Salt Lake City, Utah and wraps August 2nd in Cleveland, Ohio.

Suicide Silence - Dying in a Red Room

Green vomit is the topic in the latest video "Dying in a Red Room" from the Californian metal band SUICIDE SILENCE, the tune is taken from the fifth self-titled album.

The band had previously begun to explore genres outside of deathcore on their 2011 album "The Black Crown", experimenting with genres such as nu metal by collaborating with musicians such as KORN vocalist Jonathan Davis. After the passing of Mitch Lucker in 2012, the band reverted to a more straightforward deathcore sound for 2014 album "You Can't Stop Me".

SUICIDE SILENCE marks a departure from the band's straightforward deathcore sound to a more nu metal and alternative metal influenced sound. The first song released from the album, "Doris", was released on January 6, 2017, to a mixed reception. It has been compared to DEFTONES and KORN. The next song released from the album, titled "Silence", was released February 1, 2017.

Todays tune "Dying in a Red Room" was released on February 25. Enjoy!

Korn - Freak On a Leash

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Freak on a Leash" is a song by the American nu metal band KORN, featured on the group's 1998 studio album, Follow the Leader. Prior to the album's release, KORN had an instrumental section of the song, described as a "noisy guitar break." The section was taken out of the song after their fans requested it be taken out. After Follow the Leader's release, the song was released as a single on May 25, 1999, and since then, it has been re-released over ten times. The song uses dissonance, distortion, various guitar effects, and a heavy, aggressive style.

The "Freak on a Leash" music video was released on February 5, 1999. Directed by Todd McFarlane in Los Angeles, California, the video explores both animations and live performances mixed together. As a result, the band released a music video that won three awards, and was retired from Total Request Live. The single peaked at number six on the Alternative Songs chart, 10 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and 24 on the UK Singles Chart.

Yesterday, did KORN together with TWISTED SISTER headline the nowadays Classic Metal Festival "Hellfest" at Val de Moine, Clisson, France, with absolutely fantastic set. This set was my working music, couldn't have it much better to be honest. Not every day that you get a perfect working music in a good level that is enjoyable. I don't have any pictures on this, just got a fast look during the work. But the sound was great and the guys did a great show.

Crazy line up, right!

Here is the setlist from Hellfest

Right Now
Here to Stay
Somebody Someone
Falling Away From Me
Coming Undone
Shoots and Ladders (with a snippet of Metallica's… more )
Blind

Pleymo - Adrenaline

Has been a bit absent from the blog, as you probably have noticed. The blog has been guided by Thetania recently, think she has done really well ... really a mixed bag. There has been much that has happened, a really action-packed month, not quite as I had imagined but it is as it is!

There are still many things to be done before the end of the month, two reviews in the pipeline for WeRock that I have not even had time to begin with, how the hell should I get time to do everything? Anyway, today I slipped into some French music and a band that swings pretty good, I'm talking about a fairly unknown band on Swedish soil.

Pleymo is a French nu metal and rapcore band. The band's name apparently originates from the lead singer once having a haircut as a child that was similar to that of Playmobil figures. Their influences range from Rage Against The Machine to bands like Korn and Primus. Epic (a branch of Sony) offered the band a record deal in 2000. In 2002 they released "Episode II: Medecine Cake", produced by Fabrice Leyni. Sales of Pleymo's second album topped the 50,000 mark, establishing the band as a major new French band. In August 2002, Pleymo went on to perform at the Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo and also in Osaka, sharing the stage with major international stars such as The Offspring and No Doubt. In 2007, they announced that they're going on hiatus and they still are off the radar. Mark confirmed that in a concert. Mark is going to Los Angeles, where he's going to film a movie. Franck will go to the EUA to promote his brand Kill. Benoît is going to play in a new group called Empyr, that have members from Watcha, Vegastar and the ancient singer of Kyo. Fred also is going to play in a new group called Hewitt. Davy will continue in the group Enhancer and Lula Fortune And Eric hasn't announced any project.

Todays tune "Adrenaline" is taken from the album Alphabet Prison, that was released is a 2006.

Members Mark Maggiori (Kemar): Vocals, Blue. Erik Devilloutreys (Riko): Guitar, Green. Davy Portela (Vost): Guitar, Yellow. Benoit Juillard (B1): Bass, Red. Fred Ceraudo (Burns): Drums, White. Frank Bailleul (Kefran): DJ, Black. More info @

Skrillex - First Of The Year (Equinox)

Today we offer something completely different when we look back at last week's events when the beat pounds heavily at Arenan, Stockholm. When I was booked in for this and heard the that there would be a band called Skrillex I thought that now it will be a danceband (classic old Swedish), o god, this will be fun! Haha.

With danceband I am thinking about bands like "Vikingarna", "Lasse Stefanz" among others, the name Skrillex reminds actually very much about it.

You know, big shirt collars, color uniformity, sequins and a pasted grin. Songs of love and everything sounds exactly the same. Boring in other words. But here I was deceiving myself completely, Skrillex who is a DJ who creates music, a style known as Dub step. But during the day, I basically learn all about him, people thought I was a bit odd when I was not aware of him and the style, but what the hell, i can not know everything, but i do now :-) What have I learned of this, yes you should not judge the band by name.
That was how I thought it would be like:)

Sonny John Moore age 23, is an American electronic dance music producer who is widely known by his professional name Skrillex. Moore is also a former frontman for the American emo band From First to Last. Now he is one most acclaimed American dance producer and become a style icon with his geeky glasses and a sprawling gothic thatch.

A lip-shaped lighting rig and a table with DJ gear on, that's it!, well, there were also lots of subs that covered the entire stage floor, that's allot for a venue like this. Once they started playing, the bass was the foundation of every song, and hell of a thousand, what a pressure it got. A totally sold-out Arenan were dancing so stuff a floor down was vibrating, had dinner at Klubben which is located slightly below Arenan, where the things was swaying like the lightingtross, including the speakers in the ceiling tossing fresh, almost as if they were falling down. It was quite frightful. Bass pressure created a very interesting squeaking sound that reminded some of a neighbour's "out of tune" bed in action, kept the beat :-)

Regarding the gig, well this is not my cup of coffee, but can say that it was a pretty fun experience.

STA KÖL?

Thetania in Action

To compensate it up a little musical terms, we take two songs on a board today!

Todays tune "First of the Year (Equinox)" was released as the first single from Skrillex's third EP, More Monsters and Sprites. The exclamations used in the song that say "Call 911 now!" are from a video on YouTube of an irate woman yelling at a crowd of which she presumes to be illegal photographers.

Todays 2:nd tune "Get Up" is a track written and recorded by Korn that appears on their tenth studio album, The Path of Totality. It was released as the album's lead single on May 6, 2011. Since its release it has sold over 200,000 downloads in the United States. It was debuted live at Coachella with Skrillex. "Get Up!" is Korn's most successful single since 2007's "Evolution".
