Korn - Freak On a Leash

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Freak on a Leash" is a song by the American nu metal band KORN, featured on the group's 1998 studio album, Follow the Leader. Prior to the album's release, KORN had an instrumental section of the song, described as a "noisy guitar break." The section was taken out of the song after their fans requested it be taken out. After Follow the Leader's release, the song was released as a single on May 25, 1999, and since then, it has been re-released over ten times. The song uses dissonance, distortion, various guitar effects, and a heavy, aggressive style.

The "Freak on a Leash" music video was released on February 5, 1999. Directed by Todd McFarlane in Los Angeles, California, the video explores both animations and live performances mixed together. As a result, the band released a music video that won three awards, and was retired from Total Request Live. The single peaked at number six on the Alternative Songs chart, 10 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and 24 on the UK Singles Chart.

Yesterday, did KORN together with TWISTED SISTER headline the nowadays Classic Metal Festival "Hellfest" at Val de Moine, Clisson, France, with absolutely fantastic set. This set was my working music, couldn't have it much better to be honest. Not every day that you get a perfect working music in a good level that is enjoyable. I don't have any pictures on this, just got a fast look during the work. But the sound was great and the guys did a great show.

Crazy line up, right!

Here is the setlist from Hellfest

Dimino - Rocking in the City

Frank DiMino is best known for being the front-man of legendary US Hard Rock band ANGEL, Frank Dimino is now leading his own solo project and débuts with a fine Melodic Hard Rock album aptly titled "Old Habits Die Hard", out on July 3 in Europe and July 10 in North America.

ANGEL is a band that was discovered (similarly to VAN HALEN) by KISS bass player Gene Simmons, who got them signed to Casablanca Records. With that label ANGEL released 5 critically acclaimed studio and one live album in the second half of the 70’s. After the band’s demise, Dimino went on to work with UFO’s Paul Raymond and worked as singer for Soundtracks, scoring a Platinum album for the inclusion of his Cycle V song “Seduce Me Tonight” on the “Flashdance” soundtrack. Check last Sunday Classic, where ANGEL was in focus and the tune "Can You Feel It".

While Frank is undoubtedly DIMINO's mastermind, "Old Habits Die Hard" sees him collaborate with some heavyweights of the Las Vegas music scene, where he currently resides. Under the production of Paul Crook (MEAT LOAF, ANTHRAX), the album sees the participation — among others — of Oz Fox (STRYPER), Eddie Ojeda (TWISTED SISTER), Rickey Medlocke (BLACKFOOT, LYNYRD SKYNYRD), Pat Thrall (HUGHES/THRALL), Jeff Duncan (ARMORED SAINT), Jeff Labansky, former ANGEL bandmates Punky Meadows (on guitar) and Barry Brandt (who co-wrote with Frank the song "Even Now") and many others.

Frank says: "It all started because of the relationships between Ken Ciancimino, Paul Crook, myself and the musicians that appeared on the album. I started writing songs with Oz Fox and Jeff Labansky and then Paul suggested we use John Miceli (drums) and Danny Miranda (bass) as our rhythm section and Justin Avery for keys and background vocals because of his relationship from playing with them for MEAT LOAF. When the recording started, our friends wanted to be part of it and one after the other Pat Thrall, Punky Meadows, Eddie Ojeda, Rickey Medlocke and Jeff Duncan provided their amazing musicianship to the album. I feel truly honored to have had all these great musicians be a part of this project!"

Frank DiMino was the frontman for ANGEL in the second half of the '70s. The band was discovered by KISS bass player Gene Simmons who got them signed to Casablanca Records, where they released five critically acclaimed studio albums and a live LP. After the band's demise, DiMino went on to collaborate with UFO's Paul Raymond and worked as a singer on soundtracks, scoring a platinum album for the inclusion of his song "Seduce Me Tonight" with CYCLE V on the "Flashdance" soundtrack.

"Old Habits Die Hard" is going to take many by surprise, as it is definitely not a nostalgia feast, but really a rather compelling and inspired hard rock release.

DIMINO recording lineup:

* Frank DiMino: Lead Vocals
* Oz Fox, Paul Crook, Jeff Labansky, Pat Thrall, Punky Meadows, Jeff Duncan, Eddie Ojeda, Dylan DiMino, Rickey Medlocke: Guitars
* Justin Avery: Organ, Background Vocals
* Danny Miranda, Paul Crook: Bass
* John Miceli: Drums

Todays tune "Rockin' In The City" is the first single/video from the upcoming album "Old Habits Die Hard".

Twisted Sister - The Price

Sunday, time for a classic. Today we pay tribute to the all too soon deceased AJ Pero.

AJ Pero (Anthony Jude Pero)(October 14, 1959 – March 20, 2015) was an American drummer, in American heavy metal bands TWISTED SISTER and ADRENALINE MOB.

Pero went to St. Peter's Boys High School in Staten Island, but left because the faculty made him cut his hair. He then went to New Dorp High School and graduated in 1977. He was initially a jazz drummer, later gravitating to heavier music akin to RUSH and LED ZEPPELIN.

Pero worked as a taxi driver for a time, and joined CITIES, a local New York City band. He joined TWISTED SISTER in 1981, after seeing them play at a club and being told they were in need of a drummer. Upon his departure from Twisted Sister in 1986, he re-joined Cities. He participated in the band's 1997 reunion and continued to perform with Twisted Sister until his death.

He was also a member of OZZY OSBOURNE cover band NO MORE TEARS which is well known around Staten Island, New York.

In 2007 Pero formed CIRCLE OF THORNS with former CITIES guitarist Steve Mironovich AKA Steve Irons.

In 2011 Pero played drums on a song titled "Elephant Man" on the Eric Carr CD Unfinished Business.

On December 3, 2013, Pero was announced as the new drummer of the band ADRENALINE MOB.

On March 20, 2015, ADRENALINE MOBs band members attempted but failed to wake Pero on their tour bus. The band was traveling from Baltimore to Poughkeepsie. Pero was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead from an apparent heart attack.

So today will play a tune in the name of AJ Pero, R.I.P.

Todays tune "The Price" is a power ballad by the American heavy metal band TWISTED SISTER from their 1984 album "Stay Hungry". Released as a single. The video was filmed in 1985 in Binghamton NY. at the Veterans memorial Arena which has been host to many #1 acts such as OZZY OSBOURNE, ALICE COOPER, KISS, METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRUE, POISION and many others.

Twisted Sister - Under The Blade

Sunday, time for a classic, this is also the final contribution from the Hardrock evening. This was a contribution from one of the participants who chose to pay tribute to the 80's, which is very special era in hard rock.

Todays tune "Under the Blade" was a single released by American heavy metal band Twisted Sister in 1979. In 1982, the song was used as the title track for their debut album, Under the Blade.

In 1985, the Parents Music Resource Center named "Under the Blade" as one of Twisted Sister's objectionable songs, claiming that the song was about sadomasochism, bondage, and rape. However the group's frontman and the song's author, Dee Snider, vehemently denied the claims and repeatedly stated—including in memorable testimony before a United States Senate committee in response to questioning by Senator Albert Gore, Jr.— that the song was actually about surgery (specifically Eddie Ojeda's throat operation at the time) and the fear it can instill in people.

Twisted Sister - I Am (I'm Me)

Today it is a little special day, we will pay a tribute to a blog colleague. I have asked "Grimgoth" to give me a song that has an important role in his life, a song that refers to something emotionally and not just a good track that has no meaning. If this will be a recurring topic remains to be seen.

This is his choice and his words.

"I remember when I was little and stood with a tennis racket in my hands in front of the TV the MTV was on, it was also likely to" Headbangers Ball ", and yes, I'm that old.
It showed up a guy with big bushy blond hair and makeup like a girl and asked the question "What do you wanna do with your life?" The answer where just like in the video "I Wanna Rock".

This group has made a huge impression on me and got to see them live, then at Sweden Rock 2012 that was larger than life, and then once again have the chance to see them at Skogsröjet 2013 is even better! My dad gave me one time a recorded tape from vinyl with the albums  "Asylum -
Kiss" and "Come Out And Play - Twisted Sister" on the tape, I have still have it here at home and one day my son will get it from me. The fact is that we have looked at Twisted Sister - The Video Years here at home, and he became just like me ... saved. Perhaps it is the "third" generation of hard rockers?

But why I choose the song "I Am (I'm Me)"? First, it is a great song with awesome speed and with a text which may get the calmest person to become anarchic and wild!

For me its a bit of a recurrent theme that I had through my life, it is truth and plays at many strings in my body and soul.

It is perhaps, as Nationalteatern also say in their song ""Vi Fortsätter Och Spela Rock N Roll"" ("We Continuing to play Rock N Roll")? "We have made our own song, which is contradictory and cross We not even understand it ourselves. "

I'm probably just like those songs!

Rock on! "

Grimgoth

Today's tune "I Am (I'm Me)" is selected by "Grimgoth", it's taken from the second studio album "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll" by American heavy metal band Twisted Sister, released on June 27, 1983.

Twisted Sister - You Can't Stop Rock 'n Roll

Just returned from Sweden Rock Festival, a fantastic festival with great bands, the weather was a bit up and down but the mood was high, a bit so would be to sum it all. Over the coming days I will present some bands, a few pictures from Sweden Rock, I will wrap it all up with "a why" I was there report. Thetania makes Hultsfreds festivalen next week and there will probably be some reports also from there. First up is one of those bands that I unfortunately missed Twisted Sister... but I actually faced Dee Snider in Stockholm the night before I went down, which was really cool. He is a nice dude indeed, but longer than I expected. King Diamond was another act that I really wanted to see live, I really hope that there will be a tour and will bring King Diamond to Stockholm :)

Twisted Sister is an American heavy metal band from Long Island. Musically, the band implements elements of traditional heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, along with a style that is similar to early glam metal bands. The band is generally categorized as glam metal for their earlier work; however, the band does not consider themselves to be so.

Although the band was formed by guitarist Jay Jay French in December 1972, all of their songs were written by Dee Snider from 1976 onward. Snider remarked to David Letterman that the proposed name for the band was "This" but was rejected for fear of fans saying "This sucks". He describes Twisted Sister as "Slade meets Sex Pistols". Twisted Sister's most well-known hits include "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock", both popularized in the USA by regular airplay on MTV in the 1980s. Many of the band's songs explore themes of parent vs. child conflicts and criticisms of the educational system.

Todays tune is the title track from the second studio album "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll", released on June 27, 1983

In one series of Brainiac: Science Abuse, the song "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll" was used as an experiment to show what things could be used to stop rock and roll, using various chemicals and a stereo.

Bruce Springsteen - Spirit in the Night

Clarence Anicholas Clemons, Jr. (January 11, 1942 – June 18, 2011), also known as The Big Man, was an American musician and actor. From 1972 until his death, he was a prominent member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, playing the saxophone. He released several solo albums and in 1985 had a hit single with "You're a Friend of Mine", a duet with Jackson Browne. As a guest musician he also featured on Aretha Franklin's classic "Freeway of Love" and on Twisted Sister's "Be Chrool to Your Scuel" as well as performing in concert with The Grateful Dead and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. As an actor Clemons featured in several films, including New York, New York and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. He also made cameo appearances in several TV series, including Diff'rent Strokes, Nash Bridges, The Simpsons and The Wire. Together with his television writer friend Don Reo he published his autobiography, Big Man: Real Life & Tall Tales, in 2009.

Clemons suffered a stroke on June 12, 2011. He underwent two surgeries after which he was in serious, but stable condition. However, Clemons died from complications caused by the stroke on June 18.

Bruce Springsteen said of Clarence Clemons: "Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.” Clemons was not the first member of The E Street Band to die; in 2008 Danny Federici succumbed to melanoma.

In July 1972, Springsteen began recording his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and during breaks from recording, he jammed with Clemons and The Joyful Noyze on at least two occasions at The Shipbottom Lounge in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. When Springsteen then decided to use a tenor saxophone on the songs "Blinded By The Light" and "Spirit In The Night" it was Clemons he called. By October Springsteen was ready to tour and promote Greetings… and he put together a band featuring Clemons, Tallent, Danny Federici and Vini Lopez. Clemons played his last gig with Norman Seldin & The Joyful Noyze at the Club Plaza in Bayville, New Jersey on October 21, 1972. Four days later Clemons made his debut with the formative E Street Band at an unadvertised, impromptu performance at The Shipbottom Lounge.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Clemons featured prominently on Springsteen albums. On Born to Run he provided memorable saxophone solos on the title track, "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland" while Darkness on the Edge of Town featured another notable solo on "Badlands". The River saw Clemons feature on songs such as "The Ties That Bind", "Sherry Darling", "I Wanna Marry You" and "Independence Day" while Born in the U.S.A. saw solos on "Bobby Jean" and "I'm Goin' Down”.

At the end of shows, while recognizing members of the E Street Band, Springsteen referred to Clemons as "The Biggest Man You Ever Seen". He sometimes changed this depending on where the E Street Band performs — at their 2009 concert in Glasgow he introduced Clemons as "the biggest Scotsman you've ever seen”.

Todays tune "Spirit in the Night” is a song written and originally recorded by New Jersey based singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen for his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973). It was also the second single released from the album.
