Jack White - Connected By Love

"Connected By Love" is the new single of the forthcoming third solo album by 12-time Grammy Award-winner Jack White, "Boarding House Reach" (out March 23rd).

White produced and recorded the song in three locations: Sear Sound in New York City, Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and Third Man Studio in Nashville. It’s the first time White has recorded an album in New York and Los Angeles, and his first with an entirely new crew of musicians that includes drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (THE GHOST OF A SABER TOOTH TIGER), synthesizer player DJ Harrison, keyboardist Neal Evans (SOULIVE, Talib Kweli, John Scofield), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville's legendary gospel trio the McCrary Sisters.

Written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with no outside distractions, Jack replicated the identical environment and used the same gear as when he was a 15 year old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation) to pen sketches of the album’s songs. . The album was recorded at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN, Sear Sound in New York, NY, and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, CA – marking the first time Jack has recorded an album in either LA or NYC.

"Connected by Love" was the first song he wrote in a Nashville apartment.

Today's tune is the new single “Connected by Love” from the forthcoming album "Boarding House Reach".

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

Jack & Meg White is the most know and undisputed champions of the rock & roll DUO’s.

The supposed to be a brother & sister duo (of course they were really ex-husband and wife, Jack taking on Meg's maiden name). The band formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The duo then became a band, calling themselves The White Stripes, and presented themselves as brother and sister. They first performed publicly on August 14, 1997 at the Gold Dollar in Detroit. The group consisted of Jack White (songwriter, vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards, born as Jack Gillis) and Meg White (drums and occasional vocals), who were married from 1996 to 2000.

Jack White continues to be a creative musical force by his own and doing pretty well I must say.

Todays tune "Seven Nation Army" is the first track on the album Elephant, released as a single on March 7, 2003.

The song is known for its underlying riff, which plays throughout most of the song. Although it sounds like a bass guitar (an instrument the group had never previously used), the sound is actually created by running Jack White's semi-acoustic, 1950s-style Kay Hollowbody guitar through a DigiTech Whammy pedal set down an octave. A combination of the song's popularity, recognizable riff, and military lyrics led to it becoming the band's signature song, and has been used widely at sporting events and political protests internationally.

The video, directed by Alex and Martin, consists of one seemingly continuous shot through a kaleidoscopic tunnel of mirrored black, white and red triangles, touching on Jack's love of the number three. The triangle slides alternate between images of Jack or Meg playing, interspersed with marching skeletons and an elephant, referring to the name of the album "Seven Nation Army" appeared on. The speed at which the triangles move forward through the tunnel speeds up and slows down in unison with the beat of the song. During the video, when the song begins to intensify, the lights in surrounding the triangles flash and other effects build up as well.

Jack White - High Ball Stepper

New week, which means that a new album should be "show off" under the fine title of "Record of the Week" here at Tune Of The Day.

Lazaretto is the album that get this weeks attention. Since the White Stripes split have Jack White taken a new step to make music that inspires him to move forward on the thorny path of the world of creativity. Now he is surrounded by musicians who are capable to creating the right conditions for him to achieve his goal, if now this is what he is aiming for.

Lazaretto is interesting album that shows many sides of this guy, what he is able to create, it's full of life and passion. He shares alot of ideas and sounds, so it's a mix of almost everything, it's bluesy, calm, love full and heavy. The typical Jack White dist pops up every now and then. I really dig this and it's a record that will spin more than one time on my record player.

The Vault, Third Man's exclusive fan club subscription service, released a limited-edition version of the album on blue-and-white vinyl. It was packaged with a 40-page hardcover book, a fold-out poster, a National Archives photo that appears throughout the album art, and a 7-inch featuring demo versions of two songs recorded in Mexico, "Alone in My Home" and "Entitlement", the finished versions of which appear on the album. The "Ultra LP" version contains hidden tracks that are pressed into the vinyl underneath the inner label on each side of the record, a song ("Just One Drink") that has two different intros depending on where the needle is dropped, continuous drones, and holograms that appear on the record's surface when it's being played.

Todays tune "High Ball Stepper" taken from this weeks "Record Of The Week", the tune is a real thunderous tune where White have created a blazing slab of heavy rock.

Seasick Steve - Down On The Farm

Steven Gene Wold (born 1941), commonly known as Seasick Steve, is an American blues musician. He plays (mostly personalized) guitars, and sings, usually about his early life doing casual work. On February 28, 2013, Seasick Steve unveiled his upcoming album entitled Hubcap Music, and stated it would feature collaborations with John Paul Jones, Jack White and Luther Dickinson.

Hubcap Music is the sixth studio album by Seasick Steve. The title derives from his Morris Minor guitar made out of two hubcaps put back-to-back. He frequently uses it both live and in studio. One week before the release, a video for "Purple Shadows" premiered, consisting of Steve playing a stripped version of the song on the acoustic guitar.

Guests on the album include Dan Magnusson on drums, who also plays live with Seasick Steve, John Paul Jones on bass amongst other instruments and also Jack White on guitar on the track "The Way I Do".

Todays tune "Down On The Farm" was debuted live at the 2012 Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands. There was also a music video released for it, with Seasick Steve dancing behind his farm with the hubcap guitar in his hand, in similar fashion to The Black Keys' song, "Lonely Boy".

Seasick Steve performs Down On The Farm, with John Paul Jones, on Later... with Jools Holland, BBC Two (30th April 2013)

Willy Moon - I Wanna Be Your Man

Today is the Rock 'n roll all the way and we shall listen to something new and yet so old. Today we present the new rising star Willy Moon (born William Sinclair, 2 June 1989) is a New Zealand-born musician, singer and producer based in London.

In 2010 he released his first song I Wanna Be Your Man on Myspace where he was first noticed and subsequently acquired a record deal with Island Records. He officially released his first two singles through Luv Luv Luv Records. His music has been described as "a brilliantly odd fusion of 50s rock'n'roll and modern production" using "hip-hop production techniques".

Willy's single "Yeah Yeah" was playlisted on BBC Radio 1 in early 2012. He and his band also performed live in session for Huw Stephens for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios in May 2012.

On Monday 30th July, it was announced that Willy would be releasing the single 'Railroad Track' through Jack White's label Third Man Records.

He has been named as "One to Watch" by The Guardian and one of the "Faces of 2012" by Q Magazine.

Todays tune "I Wanna Be Your Man" is a cool odd fusion of 50s rock'n'roll with modern production, all scratchy guitars, rib-rattling beats and cut-up vocals. This sounds old, yet refreshing at the same time. Enjoy!

Jack White - Sixteen Saltines

White's Blunderbuss Tour adding many miles under his feets and thankfully some of the miles took place at Hovet in Stockholm.

The story behind Jack White is by now too long and would certainly cause severe difficulties in concentrating. He is one of today's leading musicians, he has a huge work ethic and he is an enigmatic character that captures our consciousness without problems.

With The White Stripes, he conquered the whole world, geographically and sensual, The Raconteurs gave him a larger arsenal to play with, The Dead Weather was a playhouse for White and Alison Mosshart running lost in. White has produced country music legend Loretta Lynn's magnificent "Van Leer Rose, "given to grips with Mozart by JEFF the Brotherhood and Insane Clown Posse. There are few things, if any at all, to stop him.

It is found that there are many irons in the hot lava but that's not all. In april this year we got first taste under his own name, "Blunderbuss ", an orgasmic album that moves across the Mississippi delta tinny guitars, the deep South's piano tones and Nashville's violins. If so, that White found home or lost is irrelevant. That he found the right is, however, easy to see.

Jack White does what he wants when he enters the stage, that we have learned by now, it can be White Stripe, The Raconteurs, or in any other installation. This time he travels with his six female strong live band. These multi-talented supporting White's minimalist blues punk and creates a really good swing live even if he feels a bit lost from time to time, the only thing I could rise an issue on, is the sound that was well so thickly in order to understand all the instruments.

Todays tune "Sixteen Saltines" is the second single on Jack White's 2012 solo album Blunderbuss. Jack White told NME about the inspiration for the lyrics: "My daughter asked for a snack, and I said, 'what do you want to have?', and she said, 'I think I'll have 16 saltine crackers.' And I said, 'You'll have three!' At times I imagined that character was eating cracker rations on a lifeboat and he's remembering all these other things."
