Sepultura - Orgasmatron

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Orgasmatron" is a tune by MOTÖRHEAD, it's the title track on the seventh studio album, released 9 August 1986.

"Orgasmatron" is with incendiary lyrics by frontman Lemmy, this song takes on different but related topics in each of the three verses, all written from the first-person perspective. The first verse is about organized religion, which he calls "obsequious and arrogant" and a "sadistic, sacred whore." The second verse deals with politicians, who twist the truth and "revel in your pain." The third verse is about war, which speaks of valor but leads to death. In this verse, Lemmy takes the voice of Mars, the Roman god of war.

"Orgasmatron" is the title track to the group's seventh album, their first album of new material since "Another Perfect Day" in 1983 and their first with guitarist Phil Campbell. It was produced by Bill Laswell, who had previously worked with Herbie Hancock "Sound-System", 1984), Mick Jagger "She's The Boss", 1985 and Yoko Ono "Starpeace", 1985 - not names that bring MOTÖRHEADs sound to mind. According to Phil Campbell, the band wasn't happy with Laswell's production, as it wasn't heavy enough for them.

Today's tune and cover "Orgasmatron" is made by the Brazilian heavy metal SEPULTURA, the tune was on the fourth studio album "Arise", released in 1991, enjoy!

Cloak - Tempter's Call

Unyielding darkness and brutality emerge from the deep south of the United States. Atlanta based quartet CLOAK blend the sounds of black metal, rock n’ roll, and homegrown Southern sludge to create their own unique and menacing sound.

Their debut full-length, "To Venomous Depths", (2017) was met with critical acclaim upon its release. The album got some great spotlight to be nominated as "Record Of The Week" here at Tune Of The Day, read about it here!

"The Burning Dawn", is a riff-heavy and groove-laden follow-up that proves the band is still rife with fresh ideas.

Conceptually, the record comes from a place below the surface where the sleepless and sinister dwell, and is absorbed by the darkest of dreams and the most primal desires. Musically, this exploration takes the gothic nuances of its predecessor while abandoning any hesitation in exchange for a more aggressive and vehement spirit.

While rippers like "On Poisoned Ground" and "Into the Storm" deliver a fury of soulful aggression, or the haunting melody in "Tempter's Call", songs like "Lifeless Silence" and "The Fire, The Faith, The Void" offer a darker, gothic essence, ultimately displaying CLOAK’s multi-faceted and dynamic musical diversity. So, raise your fists and set fire to the world; this is 'The Burning Dawn'.

CLOAK is:
Scott Taysom – Vocals & Guitar
Max Brigham – Guitar
Sean Bruneau – Drums
Billy Robinson – Bass

Today's tune "Tempter's Call" is taken from "The Burning Dawn", released October 25, 2019, Video by Scott Taysom, enjoy!

Karg - La Tristesse Durera Toujours

For "Dornenvögel" mastermind J.J. (vocalist of HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY) invited a lot of guest musicians from Lunar Aurora, DOWNFALL OF GAIA to participate with guest vocals on the album.

It is for sure the most diverse album that KARG wrote so far. It’s a steady up and down of negative and melancholic feelings and short glimpses of hope, recited in a quite hysteric way. Every song is a separate, private ,"Dornenvögel" (which is a metaphor in this connection) to KARG, every song treats a different chapter. That’s why the album is called ,"Dornenvögel". A collection of dramas, one followed by the other.”

KARG was founded back in the summer of 2006 as a one-man project. Between 2010 & 2014 KARG was fully formed as a band to play gigs, formally in Germany, Austria and Central Europe. In the years till 2018 KARG was, like in its beginning, held as a one-man project and released two more albums. With the release of KARGs sixth studio album "Dornenvögel".

The musical style of KARG is a furious, hysteric mixture of Atmospheric Black Metal and a huge load of Post Rock, with influences also from Grunge, Shoegaze and Post Punk. The influences from other genres than Black Metal evolved more and more within the last few years but were there in abridged form since day one. Textual KARG always was about the more melancholic side of life, such as broken relationships, lost love, estrangement, drug abuse, loss or suicide thoughts and depression. In contrast to many other bands KARGs lyrics are as equal important than its music is.

Today's tune "La Tristesse Durera Toujours" is taken from the album "Dornenvögel". Released on November 16th, 2018 through AOP Records. Featuring guests vocals of Dominik from DOWNFALL OF GAIA

Death - Voice Of The Soul

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Voice Of The Soul" is a tune by the American death metal band DEATH. It's taken from the bands seventh and final studio album "The Sound Of Perseverance", released on September 15, 1998, by Nuclear Blast. This is the only album to feature guitarist Shannon Hamm, drummer Richard Christy, and bassist Scott Clendenin.

"Voice Of The Soul" is an instrumental track that contrasts with almost every other work of the band in its inclusion of softer guitars and lack of percussion.

In an interview done in March 1999, Chuck Schuldiner stated that the acoustic guitar-driven "Voice of the Soul" was actually written during the "Symbolic" sessions. DEATH has produced only two instrumentals (the other being the more electric guitar driven "Cosmic Sea" from the album "Human"). The album also featured a cover of JUDAS PRIESTs "Painkiller", which shows Schuldiner attempting a different, high-pitched style of death growl more reminiscent of Rob Halford's original vocals and also singing for the first time with a clean voice through the end of the song. All the solos in the song are rewritten.

Some of the song names and music on "The Sound of Perseverance" was originally going to appear on the first "Control Denied" album, "The Fragile Art of Existence". Schuldiner himself denied this in an interview with Metal Maniacs in 1998 by saying that none of his compositions for "Control Denied" had been used to fill space for a DEATH album. Schuldiner implied that some "Control Denied" songs were used for "The Sound of Perseverance" in an interview with Scream Magazine in October 1999, when he stated that "The Fragile Art of Existence" contains a lot of music I didn't have in mind originally. Most of the material was completed in 1996-97. Also, Tim Aymar, in December 2010, confirmed that a few of the "Control Denied" songs had been, in his words, "'Deathized' and recorded on TSOP." When DEATH was signed on to Nuclear Blast, Schuldiner agreed to make one last DEATH album before moving forward with "Control Denied".

20th Anniversary 3LP Edition, Deluxe limited edition one time pressing of DEATH’s seminal final album, featuring gorgeous expanded packaging and a third LP featuring 10 bonus tracks!

Enjoy today's tune!

Record Madness: I

Record Madness is a project between Metal blog and Tune Of The Day, a project that have now been running for some time.

In short, its based on a closer look at our record collection, and the rules are relatively simple.

There will be challenges between us. Everything is about to dive into the shelf and pick up the records with the letter which you have been challenged with. One tells stories, shows pictures, a little anecdotes, or anything that affects the character that is current at the moment. The posts ends with a challenge in the form of a letter from the alphabet sent to Chief Rebel on Metal blog. Then he makes the same thing with his record shelf (hey CD!) But with his twist and his angle on it before he sends back a letter. Then it all goes back and forth like a pinball machine, but in slow motion.

Everything started with "Chief Rebel" who dived into the letter "A", and wrote a mammoth post with lots of pictures of what was in his record shelf under the letter A. Then he has described what he has under "R","G", "U", "S", "T", "H" and now latest "E" (ARGUS THE)

Now we have come up a bit in the process and I have harvested both the letter "L", "Q", "B", "U", "D", "F", "E" and today we'll see what is hidden behind the letter  "I" (LQBUDFEI)

This time I'm really on it so you guys didn't have to wait for ages to see what's hidden behind todays letter. Even if i have had a really busy schedule I manage to take some time for this.
Time to stop "Monkey About" and gets this party rocking....so in short "I" is a pretty average letter, that contains a pretty big mix lot of artists and genres, "I" has a pretty good place to the right and still in a standing height in the record shelf, thanks for that, guess I need to crawl on my knees soon...haha.

Once I have browsed through the albums I quickly notice that it contains a really mixed output, but far off to be a complete set of records.  And as I always mention, I do miss some records as they are to faraway to be able to be here.

First out is Roy Samuel Reid or better known as I-Roy who was a Jamaican DJ who had a very prolific career during the 1970s. Here with the album "Don't Check Me With No Lightweight Stuff" (1997)

Between 1968 and 1977, Randy's Studio 17 was the site for some of all-time greatest reggae recordings including seminal albums by The Wailers and Burning Spear. Impact All-Stars, the album featured such influential musicians as Aston Barrett (bass), Carlton Barrett and Sly Dunbar (drums), Tyrone Downie, Earl Lindo and Augustus Pablo (keyboards) and Tommy McCook (tenor saxophone). With the addition of five previously-unreleased tracks, the album was reissued in 1998 by the British reggae label, Blood And Fire.
