Mando Diao - Själens Skrubbsår

The statistics are an impressive resume of productivity. Since 2002 MANDO DIAO has released 7 studio albums that have sold millions of copies worldwide. The Swedish album “Infruset” in 2013 was a cultural phenomenon in Sweden, selling 4x platinum, #1 for 17 weeks and the single “Infruset "was on “Svenkstoppen” for 167 weeks with 86 at #1. In their career, they have played more than 1500 concerts in more than 30 countries and have headlined major festivals throughout the world. Their videos have gone viral with tens of millions of views on YouTube. They have released both a B-side and Greatest Hits collections and even an MTV Unplugged album. Many of their contemporary bands have come and gone but MANDO DIAO has continued to reach new heights and re-define popular music.

MANDO DIAO is known for its classic rock and roll sound. For them music is craftwork as they each play several instruments, are producers and songwriters. They started their career drawing heavy influences from rhythm and blues, THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES and THE KINKS. As they developed they took in more pop and dance themes, but have always maintained the energy and attitude of early rock and roll paired with Björn's unmistakable soulful voice. Constant touring with there energetic performances has established MANDO DIAO as an international headliner.

Shortly after the fall release of the studio album "BANG", which produced the radio hit "Long Long Way", MANDO DIAO is back with his first Swedish-language album since 2012. This is a standalone sequel to the big success "Infruset". MANDO DIAOs new album, where the material is interspersed with interpretations on Karin Boye, Nils Ferlin and Gustaf Fröding and contributions from Björn Dixgård's parents, was recorded in Borlänge in the old school way: live taking with a microphone in the room, all done in four days!

The release date for the new album "I Solnedgången" is set to May 29th.

Mando Diao - Black Saturday

Holy Saturday (Latin: Sabbatum Sanctum), the Saturday of Holy Week, also known as Holy and Great Saturday, the Great Sabbath, Black Saturday, Joyous Saturday, Hallelujah Saturday (in Portugal and Brazil), Glorious Saturday (in the Philippines), Påskafton (in Sweden) or Easter Eve, and called "Joyous Saturday" or "the Saturday of Light" among Coptic Christians, is the day after Good Friday. It is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week in which Christians prepare for Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus' body lay in the tomb and the Harrowing of Hell.

So for this eve, we play something that suits the day "Black Saturday", it's taken from an album where I thought the band MANDO DIAO took a step to much out of their own comfort zone. Anyway, there is one good tune on the album "Ælita" and it's this one.

On 23 April 2014 MANDO DIAOs seventh studio album "Ælita" was released in Sweden; the international release was on 2 May 2014. The first single, "Black Saturday", was released in Sweden on 11 January 2014. The new synth-rock sound has led to many disputes amongst fans of the band and critics. The Russian synthesizer "Aelita" has been the source and inspiration for this album, leading away from the former music style.

MANDO DIAO is an alternative rock band from Borlänge, Sweden. The band got their breakthrough with the release of the album "Hurricane Bar". Their main fan base is in Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. Band members are Björn Dixgård (vocals, guitar), Carl-Johan Fogelklou (bass), Jens Siverstedt (guitar), Daniel Haglund (keyboard) and Patrik Heinkipieti (drums).

Enjoy today's tune and Happy Easter everyone.

Zara Larsson - Uncover

Rockbjörnen is a music prize in Sweden, divided into several categories, which is awarded annually by the newspaper Aftonbladet. The magazine's web browser appoint laureates. The prize was first awarded in 1979, and is mostly centered on pop and rock.

2010 they decided to redo Rockbjörnen and focus more on live performances. This initiative was hailed by artists and industry. The period of Rockbjörnen was extended with the concept of development from one month to three months (all summer).

Well it was a pretty strange evening at Gröna Lund and if you take a closer look on what the menu is offering during this evening you start to wonder if it's time to start think about chance the name from Rockbjörnen to Popbjörnen (Rockbear to Popbear) as to be honest, there is not much rock left here.
After a short chat with Sabaton, one of the Rock band that was nominated, they felt pretty lost in there, the same feeling I believe Lizette & and Ghost had.

Anyway, here you got this years winners:

Foreign Song of the year: Passenger: ”Let her go”
Livegroup of the year: Mando Diao
Swedish Concert of the year: Håkan Hellström
Hardrock/Metal of the year: Sabaton
Swedish Song of the year: Håkan Hellström ”Det kommer aldrig vara över för mig”
Breakthrough of the year: Zara Larsson
Male Artist of the year: Håkan Hellström
Female Artist of the year: Zara Larsson

And then we need to pick a song from this event. Well this years breakthrough was pretty cool, a 15 year old girl that sings awesome.

Zara received national fame for winning the TV4 talent show Talang 2008, the Swedish version of Got Talent. She is currently signed to TEN Music Group since 2012. She had a breakthrough with her debut EP album Introducing, released in January 2013, with the single "Uncover" topping the charts in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Both the single "Uncover" as well as the album Introducing were certified triple platinum in July 2013 by Universal Music Sweden. Zara signed with Sony Music Entertainment in the United States in April 2013. She lives with her mother, father and her one sister.

Todays tune "Uncover" is taken from the EP Introducing. Enjoy!

Converge - Trespasses

Now we almost reached the end of this year and as usual, it is time to sum it all up with this year's best albums and give thumbs up for nice concerts and other events. First up we present this year's top 20 albums. Where you get the first 10 at once.

Since we can not quite agree on a common list for this year's top 10 albums, we will do as we did last year, but Thetania will only do a top five since she is pretty busy with work. This mean that it will be a list from each one of us on the same day, one list position in the morning and same in the evening, it will generate a lot of music here at the Tune Of The Day during these days. This year's list has been super difficult to tie together, started with a Top 50 and was freaking hard to remove tunes, ended up that I had to go on the most listening records and many that, in the beginning was obvious was removed. Right or wrong, judge yourself, hard as hell, I must say. However, I miss some records which I unfortunately did not had time to listen to and whereby they are not included. I think this year has been absolutely crazy on the album releases, has broken my purchasing budget by horse lengths. Really hope next year will be calmer, so one have time to catch up a bit.

We start by presenting the positions outside the Top 10 that I, Stones have, that is 11-20 just like last year.

Top 11 - 20 on Tune Of The Day

11. Beardfish - The Void
12. The Sword - Apocryphon
13. Meshuggah - Koloss
14. Black Country Communion - Afterglow
15. Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind
16. Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth
16. Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol
17. Mando Diao - Infruset
18. Ne Obliviscaris - Portal Of I
20. Horisont - Second Assault

Today I pick a song from an album that has grown a lot recently, but unfortunately it has got too little playing time in order to stretch higher and pinch a position in the Top 10. Converge "All We Love We Leave Behind" is a record that invites you to dance in a little more violent way than usual. This record is actually really good and I recommended this highly. Converge is an American progressive hardcore band from Salem, Massachusetts formed in 1990. The group comprises vocalist Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. Playing a blend of hardcore punk and heavy metal, Converge has helped to define many of the elements of the metalcore genre. According to Allmusic, Converge are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground".

Todays tune "Trespasses" is taken from the eighth studio album "All We Love We Leave Behind". The album was released on October 9, 2012 through Epitaph Records.

Mando Diao - Strövtåg I Hembygden

New week, new Record of the week album will be presented, this time it is actually a record in Swedish.

Mando Diao has returned with a new album "Infruset", a giant leap from punk rock to classical tones of Swedish folk poems are not exactly what one would expect of the guys. Although in some strange way, this sounds obvious. This is Mando Diaos first album in Swedish. The band has delivered five studio albums and has sold 1.5 million albums over 10 active years.

The Mando Diao resurrects the Swedish soul, to fully focus on native traditions. A soulful appropriations, an old piano and Gustaf Fröding lyrics, with a heritage from Fred Åkerström and Cornelis Vreeswijk. All this and to provide the basis for the album. It's a huge risk, daring to sing in Swedish and also make it as unadorned as Mando Diao done.

It is painfully beautiful when Gustaf Norén and Björn Dixgårds voices intertwine in a proud harmony. They gives the words the weight they deserve. They sing more heartfelt and emotional than ever. Björn's sister Linnea Dixgård gives an helped hand, which can be heard in the nice duet mission in tunes "Titania" and "I Ungdommen".

From this weeks Record we pick the tune "Strövtåg I Hembygden"

The band, as many others has let their name adorn a bottle with alcohol containing beverages, in the Mando's case, it's actually (Glögg) mulled wine, you can obtain from the systembolaget.
