Lana Del Rey - Mariners Apartment Complex

There are very few artists that can sculp a universe of their own. Where every detail is compelling and every phrase is true and sincere. Lana Del Rey is among those chosen few. The line between the woman born Elisabeth Woolridge Grant and Lana Del Rey is as needless as comparing her to other artists. The Queen of Sadness can’t be of this world. From a poolside in a glamorous ruin Lana Del Rey has proven time and time again that she is nothing less than a masterful storyteller. Old Hollywood, vintage music, rockets, the Kennedys and Marilyn Manson – even though her lyrics are filled with nostalgia they remain highly contemporary and the same goes for the gloomy, dramatic music. Always cinematic and orchestral, topped with hip-hop beats and girl-group harmonies. If you add some of the best songs written this millennium, it is obvious that this is her time and we are blessed to be sharing it with her.

Lana Del Rey released her masterpiece "Lust For Life" in 2017 but shows no signs of slowing down. Earlier this year she gave us the two singles "Mariners Apartment Complex" and "Venice Bitch", both taken from the coming album named "Norman Fucking Rockwell".

GĂ€rdet, prepare to be transformed into Lana-land because this summer the Queen of Sadness will travel to Sweden for a highly anticipated show at Lollapalooza.

Lana Del Rey will perform at Bay Stage Fri 6/28, 9:15pm-10:30pm

Today's tune "Mariners Apartment Complex", is a song by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, released on September 12, 2018, through Polydor and Interscope Records, as the first “fan single” from her upcoming studio album, "Norman Fucking Rockwell" (2019). The song marks the first collaboration between Del Rey and Jack Antonoff, who wrote and produced the song together.

"The song is about this time I took a walk late at night with a guy I was seeing, and we stopped in front his friend's apartment complex, and he put his hand around my shoulder, and he said "I think we are together because we're both similar, like we're both really messed up" and I thought it was the saddest thing I'd ever heard. And I said, "I'm not sad, I didn't know that's why you thought you were relating to me on that level, I'm actually doing pretty good". And he was upset, and that's when I wrote the song. I thought, I had to do so many times, where you know like I had to sort of step on that role where I was showing the way and I was sort of being the brighter light. But that's why it's so cool that you’re playing it. 'Cause I thought that I'd just put it out and it would be one of those things that I'd put out just to have there for myself, but it's cool being able to share it with people too."

Ryan Adams - Blank Space

Time to wrap up Way Out West and post the last one from the festival. This time it was my 10th Way Out West of 11 :) The weather was pretty good, only two days with rain, site was in good condition and easy to build on, the volunteers was awesome as always in Gothenburg and made the life easy for us in the crew. The music was ok, even if I would love to have some more Rock than the festival supply´s. The vegetarian food was really good this year, good mix of various dishes. My favourite this year of all the artists is Ryan Adams and PIXIES. Both bands deliverd great music.

Here comes a batch of some live and odd pictures from the almost 2 weeks that I spent over there.

First picture i took, a shot of the small lake in the Dungen area.

"Blank Space" is a song by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift from her fifth studio album 1989 (2014). It was written by Swift, Max Martin and Shellback. The song was released to the radio by Republic Records on November 10, 2014 as the album's second single, after "Shake It Off" and is the second track on the album. Musically, "Blank Space" is an electropop song with lyrics that satirize the media's perception of Swift and her relationships.

Ryan Adams' cover version of the song was featured on his Taylor Swift tribute album, 1989 (2015). Father John Misty released a cover version of the song in the style of the rock band The Velvet Underground in 2015. The cover is a reinterpretation of Adams' version and is built on the melody of the song "I'm Waiting for the Man."

Today's tune "Blank Space" is taken from the fifteenth studio album "1989" by American singer-songwriter Ryan Adams, released digitally through his own PAX AM record label on September 21, 2015. The album is a track-by-track cover of Taylor Swift's album of the same name. It debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200 chart, one position ahead of Swift's 1989, which was in its 48th week on the chart.

Adams first became interested in Taylor Swift's album while coping with the collapse of his marriage to Mandy Moore. On what attracted him about Swift's album, Adams stated "There's just a joy to 1989," describing the album as "its own alternate universe." Adams initially described the album as being in the style of The Smiths. When recording the album, Adams said he found a sound somewhere between Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town and The Smiths' Meat Is Murder.

Lana Del Rey - Love

Not with a bang, more like a hot breeze, Lana Del Rey walked sultrily into or lives back in 2011. In a world of insistent booty shaking, her aura of suave coolness was a welcome change of pace. And that she appeared with a seemingly unending arsenal of strong songs combining the sound of right now with a 60´s-tinged sense of melancholia and ennui made her almost impossible to resist. Ever since she´s been building her alternative universe, a place where David Lynch is locked in a never ending slow dance with Nancy Sinatra and you´re welcome there too. Just slide thru the velvet drapes and don´t make any sudden moves.

After Lana Del Reys breakthrough with the viral sensation "Video Games" and the follow up "Blue Jeans", she released the album "Born to die". It went on to become the fifth most sold album of 2012. Since then she´s released two albums ("Ultraviolence" and "Honeymoon") and three EPs filled with dark, dreamy music. Recently she released the new album "Lust For Life" and it is clear that 2017 will be the biggest year ever for Lana Del Rey.

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant (born June 21, 1985), known professionally as Lana Del Rey, is an American singer, songwriter, and model. Her music has been noted by critics for its stylized cinematic quality, its preoccupation with themes of tragic romance, glamour, and melancholia, and its references to pop culture, particularly 1950s and 1960s Americana.

Lana Del Rey is today's headliner at Way Out West, performs last this evening at Flamingo.

Today's tune "Love" was released on February 18, 2017, through Polydor Records and Interscope Records, as the lead single from her fifth studio album, Lust for Life (2017). The song was written and produced by Del Rey, Benny Blanco, Emile Haynie and Rick Nowels, with additional production by Kieron Menzies. Its release was first teased with promotional posters hung in Los Angeles on February 17, after which the release date was pushed up due to leaked versions of the song surfacing online the same day.

Les Discrets - Virée Nocturne

Let's continue in the same steps as the "Record Of The Week", LES DISCRETS is a French shoegaze/post-rock project created and led by Fursy Teyssier as a "platform gathering music and art". Teyssier was the sole member of the band until 2009. Since then they have released two albums, in 2010 and 2012, respectively and the third is in the pipeline.

Fursy Teyssier's art is amazing, he have created album covers for ALCEST, MORBID ANGEL, EMPYRIUM, AGALLOCH, THE OATH, WOODS OF YPRES among others, check it out here!

The 4-track EP "Virée Nocturne" heralds LES DISCRETS third album "Prédateurs" (due out in early 2017). Four years after the last studio effort, "Ariettes Oubliées", Fursy Teyssier departs from his blend of atmospheric metal and post rock, influenced by such artists as AGALLOCH, ANATHEMA or early ULVER and returns with a reinvention of LES DISCRETS. Drawing inspiration from acts like PORTISHEAD, MASSIVE ATTACK, LANA DEL REY, PINK FLOYD or BLONDE REDHEAD, he keeps his musical core with a calmer version of LES DISCRETS, maintaining the inherent the melancholy and melodics.

"Virée Nocturne" is not only a new start in terms of music, but also on the visual level. For the first time, Teyssier collaborates with another graphic designer on the visual appearance of a LES DISCRETS release. The British artist Chris Friel combines painting with photography in a unique way, a huge inspiration for Teyssier and even the guideline for the music.

Besides the title track that will also be featured on "Prédateurs", the EP features the exclusive song "Capricorni. Virginis. Corvi", a demo version of another new song ("Le Reproche") and a remix of "Virée Noturne" by progressive hip hop artist DÀlek.

Available editions:

- 12' vinyl EP (black) incl. printed inner sleeve (400 copies)
- 12" vinyl EP (clear) incl. printed inner sleeve (90 copies and exclusively available at Prophecy Fest 2016)
- CD Digipak

Today's tune is the title track of the latest EP "Virée Nocturne", 2016

Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans

Saying hello from the hotel Angelica Alley. Guests comes, goes and new comes, the hotel has been fully encumbered the past week. One of the guests thought I would do something with Lana Del Rey who visited Stockholm yesterday, I said ... who is that?

In the first phase, I'd should have work on it, but there has been so much else, so it ran quite simply out in the sand, Thetania was on the move to Malmo in order to make ESC (she left this morning) and I will stay at home and hold the fort with little bits and pieces, however, was a quick turn at the Globe for a different case and looked inside, saw four trucks along the annexet, a big production for such a small venue, nice I thought.

We meet the "Guest's" desire...

Todays tune "Blue Jeans" is a song by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, taken from her second studio album Born to Die (2012). Serving as the third single on April 8, 2012 through Interscope Records, it also appeared on the EP, Lana Del Rey (2011), the re-release of her second album, Born to Die - The Paradise Edition (2012), and the second disc of the compilation album, Now That's What I Call Chill!. Produced by Emile Haynie, the song was written by Del Rey, Haynie, and Dan Heath. As a downtempo pop ballad with alternative hip hop influences, it was featured in the television series Ringer, along with "Video Games", propelling Del Rey into the mainstream. A controversial performance of the song on SNL placed Del Rey under scrutiny and polarized opinion. Charting across Europe and Asia, "Blue Jeans" reached the top ten in Belgium, Poland, and Israel. Two music videos were created for the song. The first was self-produced. The second was shot and directed by Yoann Lemoine, featuring film noir elements and a crocodile. In the video, Del Rey's fictional boyfriend is played by Bradley Soileau, husband of pop singer, Porcelain Black.

Del Rey's music has been noted for its cinematic sound and its references to various aspects of pop culture, particularly that of the 1950s and '60s Americana. The singer has described herself as a "self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra." Before signing to a major record label, Del Rey provided sole production of her music videos. Musically, she draws influence from what she deems to be the masters of each genre, including Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Eminem, and Britney Spears, as well as from poetry and film noir. Del Rey has endorsed clothing line H&M, serving as the model for their Fall and Winter 2012 collection. In 2012, Del Rey became the face of the Jaguar F-Type luxury automobile.
