Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"
ELDER, the heavy psych band hailing from Boston, USA have released their fourth full length album "Reflections of a Floating World". About two and a half year ago I praised their third album "Lore" here on Tune Of The Day.
The main man Nick DiSalvo claims that COLOUR HAZE and DUNGEN are "the bands that have really influenced the methodology or the philosophy behind the new direction". I see the point, as that is something that's bubbles in ELDERS music, even if the sound is pretty varied and heavily based around rock and metal and engine steams heaviness and riffs from bands like BLACK SABBATH and SLEEP and some psychedelia from ELECTRIC WIZARD.
"Reflections of a Floating World" is 6 track album that clocks in at 1hr 4 min. Their lengthy songs are told as stories, unfolding and undulating across genre boundaries and into new kosmische territory. This is an epic album that floats between sonic soundscapes of progressive rock and hypnotic psychedelia. ELDER have grown as a band and have delivered a full point album once again. It's really fun to hear how everything has improved since "Lore" and that was a very good album. The album needs some time to fall into place, but when it does, you will be stuck forever, well at least for some time :)
ELDER consists of:
Nicholas DiSalvo - Guitar, keys, vocals
Jack Donovan - Bass
Matt Couto - Drums
Michael Risberg - Guitar
Michael Samos - Pedal steel
Sum: This is an album that suits the autumn darkness that hides on the doormat.
Vinyl version in a beautiful blue color.
Today's tune "Sanctuary" is taken from "Reflections of a Floating World", the album was released June 2, 2017. Close your eyes and follow the band on the musical journey to the new kosmische territory.
ÖKEN a progressive 70s psychedelica in the stoner rock / doom soil, the band is from Skövde, Sweden and have recently release their debut on Ozium Records.
ÖKEN consists of Adrian Kjellgren (guitar and vocals), Jonathan Holmström (guitar), Jesper Sundell (drums) and Arvid Qvick (bass and vocals). They only have played for a year, but has already found its own unique sound with a little jam time they have. They are now ready to conquer the world with its desert fuzzy jam cozy doomy music. Reminds of LUGNORO, JEHTRO TULL, SLEEP, IF and DUNGEN. Krautprogbikermetal !!
On the April the 30th does "Atomic Rooster Music Club" organizes a small minifestival named "Atomic OziumFest" at Cajsa Warg Majorna i Göteborg. Three Ozium Records bands will play, ÖKEN, VOKONIS and BAD ACID together with the Gothenburg SPIDERS as headline.
"Allas Sak" is the upcoming album with the Swedish progressive rock band DUNGEN. The band is based in Stockholm. Often classified as progg or psychedelic rock, DUNGEN is also influenced by Swedish (and other) folk music, classic rock, progressive rock, garage rock and alternative rock.
"Allas Sak" (It’s a short phrase with enormous implications). Those two Swedish words translate loosely into English as “everyone’s thing” or maybe “anyone’s thing.” They not only provide the title for DUNGENs latest collection of sophisticated psychedelic rock, but explains how the band works creatively and collaboratively.
“I was told by a friend once that as a songwriter and as a musical artist, you have to understand that as soon as the music leaves your body, it is no longer strictly yours,” explains Gustav Ejstes, DUNGENs mastermind and main songwriter. “The listener also owns it and filters it through their personality, their thoughts and feelings.”
In other words, the music is everyone’s thing. It belongs to the band and to whoever hears it, which means that everyone is empowered to decipher the Swedish-language lyrics for themselves, to locate their own stories in the magisterial instrumental jams, to make all of this mean whatever they need it to mean. For DUNGEN, this communion between artist and audience is a beautiful and necessary process that makes the music mean more, not less. It becomes, in a sense, infinite. “These songs are my everyday experiences, my thoughts and stories from the life I live,” says Ejstes. “I hope people can create their own stories around the music and maybe we can make music together, the listener and I.”
Ejstes has been making music—at first for himself, then eventually and inevitably for all of us—for nearly twenty years. Growing up in rural Sweden, he became obsessed with hip-hop and sampling. Digging through crates and searching for obscure source material provided him with an informal education in ‘60s pop and psychedelia, and soon he learned to play the bits and pieces he was sampling. He took up guitar and bass, drums and keyboard and even flute, then took to his grandmother’s basement to put it all on tape.
When Ejstes recorded his first album, he released it in 2001 under the name DUNGEN, which means “The Grove”— a nod to his village upbringing or perhaps a deeper reference to American folk songs like “Shady Grove.” While his music has routinely garnered comparisons to acts like Love, Pink Floyd, the Electric Prunes, and Os Mutantes, he has always emphasized a strong sense of songcraft. The music has deep roots in history, but it blooms in the present.
With 2004’s breakout Ta Det Lugnt Dungen garnered an avid fanbase outside of Scandinavia. Pitchfork lauded the album with a 9.3 and asserted that Ejstes’s “songs are painstakingly arranged with a sense of depth, gradations, and tonal three-dimensionality redolent of something as off the charts as Pet Sounds.” Only on the road did Dungen blossom into a full band, with a rotation of musicians joining Ejstes onstage and eventually coalescing into a fully democratic band that includes Reine Fiske on guitar, Mattias Gustavsson on bass, and Johan Holmegard on drums. Starting with 2007’s Tio Bitar and 2009’s 4, the band members helped Ejstes realize his own vision while adding flourishes of their own. As a result, DUNGEN grew into something bigger and more formidable: one of the best and most consistently inventive psych rock bands in the world.
At the height of their powers, however, the band took a step back.
It’s been five years since the last DUNGEN album, 2010’s Skit I Allt, which is by far the longest interval between releases for a band that proved especially prolific and inspired during the 2000s. “We have all been away during this period for different reasons, playing music in different projects,” says Ejstes. “I have been writing songs in the meantime, so the actual recording process has been pretty short.” During the interim, several members of the band released albums as the Amazing, including 2012’s Gentle Stream and 2015’s Picture You. Ejstes himself co-founded the Swedish supergroup AMASON, which includes members of IDIOT WIND, LITTLE MAJORETTE and MIIKE SNOW. They released their debut, Sky City, earlier this year.
Allas Sak is about everyday matters: family, friends, the fine texture of life. Common but never mundane, these subjects anchor the music in the here and now, while the music lends a certain grandeur to ordinary moments. “Lyrics are very important to me,” says Ejstes. “We know a lot of people who don’t speak Swedish who love the music anyway. Music comes first every time. I think it could be wordless if the moods in the music take you somewhere, but often the melodies are attached to words that came up the first time they were played.”
A taste from the upcoming album 'Allas Sak' out Sept 25 (Worldwide) is the otherworldly instrumental “Franks Kaktus”.

Teddybears get the honor to finish the festival Popaganda and finishes also our Popaganda special.
The Popaganda audience is grateful for a final band as Teddybears, it will be a guaranteed party, that's the fact. With a huge cheer kicks the band off, what a fucking draw it gets, as a new fueled boeing 788 it plows through the a bit small tough audience and creates a party like no other. Teddybears combs the hair and give a hit paradelike no other, the whole Eriksdalsbadet rocking. The band hands out some surprises, with both guests and lots of pyro, the crowd jumping, bouncing and all other words that available for jumping up and down in pure euphoria. Awesome ending to the festival and summer.
Teddybears (formerly Teddybears STHLM) is a Swedish band formed in 1991, known for mixing pop, rock, hip-hop, electronica, reggae, punk and many other genres.

Saturday, a fantastic day, almost as if you could say that it's summer, it smells like summer anyway, the sun has been on firmly ... almost that you got burned off during the afternoon sun.
After a rather rough week, music wise, I thought turning down the tempo a bit, last night when I stood and painted, I played an album with the band Paatos, incredibly beautiful, a transmitter board that makes you hungry for wine strangely enough, however it ended up with a beer instead.
Paatos is a Swedish rock group based in Stockholm, that consists of Petronella Nettermalm, Ricard "Huxflux" Nettermalm, Peter Nylander and Ulf "Rockis" Ivarsson. Paatos was formed in August 2000. Paatos is usually classified as progressive rock, albeit influenced by bands such as Portishead and Massive Attack. Paatos has described their own music as Cinematic Rock, despite their reluctance to categorize or pigeon-hole their musical expression.
Everyone in the band is both composer and lyricist, contributing to the entire musical process and bringing their own influences to the studio. After many years of collaboration the result is a creative entity standing on eight legs. Much time is spent in the studio and meticulous work is put into each recorded track. However, Paatos never loses sight of their ideal of being a killer live act. Delivering the music on a stage before an audience is without doubt a primary focus for the band.
Paatos was formed in 1999 by Reine Fiske (Dungen, Trä Gräs och Stenar & Landberk) and Stefan Dimle (Landberk), and Ricard Nettermalm and Johan Wallen of the band Agg. The band appeared at a folk rock festival with Turid Lindqvist and later recruited vocalist Petronella Nettermalm, Ricard's wife. Reine Fiske was replaced by Peter Nylander on guitar 2003.
The band released the EP Tea/Perception in spring 2001. The following year, the band composed and performed music for the soundtrack of the festival film Nosferatu, and released their debut album, Timeloss. The album was mixed in Atlantic Studios by Jan Hansson. Tea and Perception finally were recorded live on Goran Freeses studio and was launched as an EP with the same name: Tea/Perception (2001), in the beginning of the spring of 2001.
It was announced in April 2009 that Stefan Dimle and Johan Wallén had left Paatos. In December of the same year, it was announced that the band has a new member, bassist Ulf "Rockis" Ivarsson. In 2009 Paatos starts writing and recording music for their fifth album, Breathing. This feature their new bass player, Rockis. Their collaboration with Inside Out ends and they sign with Glassville Records in Holland. In conjunction with this release Paatos makes a video of the first song of the album, Gone.
Todays tune "Gone" is taken from their 2011 album release "Breathing". The Video was Directed by Staffan Kihlbom & Petrus Olsson.
