Saturday, once again I go outside my comfort zone and pick a tune with the French hip hop producer Al'Tarba who has worked with rappers like Ill Bill, Raekwon, Q Unique, Rhyme Asylum Psych Ward, and many more. He has released three instrumental albums.
And for today tune "Hush Little Bay" where he worked with Bianca Casady from COCOROISE on vocals, from his upcoming album "La Fin Des Contres", dropping May 6th.
The tune has a smooth modern reggae groove, a lo-fi lullaby that climbs high and straight into your brain. Her, nasal and slight dark and melancholic, but very innocent voice set and subtle everything mashed together in a beautiful song.
A little girl wakes up at the bottom of a tree. Confused, with no idea of where she is. Despite of all of this, she feels soothed by the soft light, the bright colors and the buzzing of the creatures that swirl around her. A strange, radiant, watery sphere forms and unfolds delicately before her eyes. Intrigued, she stands up and touches it with her finger…
This story, told by the singular voice of Bianca Casady, mythical singer of the group CocoRosie, is inspired by the dreamlike universe of Lewis Carroll. A sort of “Alice in Wonderland” who would dive inside a 70’s psychedelic rock vinyl cover.
"Bulls on Parade" is a song by American rock band RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. It is the second song from their second studio album, "Evil Empire"(1996). It was released as the album's first single to modern rock radio on February 9, 1996.
The song is widely known for its popular guitar solo containing a vinyl scratch effect used by Tom Morello, done by toggling between two pickups, one on and one off, while rubbing his hands on the strings over the pickups to create the effect that someone is scratching a vinyl disc. Morello has stated that the sound he was going for was a "sort of 'Geto Boys' sound, menacing" with E♭ tuning in both guitar and bass and a wah-wah pedal fully in the treble position to create a Houston 5th Ward gangland-style riff.
On February 14, 2019, American rapper Denzel Curry performed a cover of the song on the Australian radio station Triple J as part of Like a Version. The cover was met with critical acclaim. That's the version for thursday cover.
Denzel Rae Don Curry (born February 16, 1995) is an American rapper. Born and raised in Carol City, Florida, Curry started rapping while in sixth grade and began working on his first mixtape in 2011. Influenced by underground Florida rapper SpaceGhostPurrp, the mixtape was later featured on Purrp's social media, giving Curry local attention and resulting in Curry joining Purrp's hip-hop collective, Raider Klan.
Like A Version is a segment on Australian radio station triple j. Every week a musician or band comes into the studio to play one of their own songs and cover a song they love.
