Kid Rock - Happy New Year

Time to play the last tune of 2015. I hope that you all had a great 2015 and get even better 2016. All the love and happiness to you! Rock on!

/Stones and Thetania

The last tune "Happy New Year" is taken from Kid Rock's  album Rebel Soul, an album where he returned to more of a party rocker vibe after 2010's more serious "Born Free". The album starts off with "Chickens In The Pen", a song about a fictional brothel called the Dew Drop Inn. The song has a sing-along chorus and is equal parts blues and funk. "Let's Ride" was the album's sole hit, charting at No 105 on the Hot 100 and No 16 on the mainstream rock charts. It is a heavy heartland rocker that was a military anthem. The song was originally titled "The Battle Hymn Of The Middle East". "3 CATT Boogie" launches into the subjects of corrupt government and banks over a honky tonk doo wop blues number. Detroit, Michigan was reworked Motown cover by Ronnie Love. The southern fried funk title track told the tale of a loner while "God Save Rock N Roll" was the backwoods cousin of Bad Company's "Shooting Star". Though this song was actually about his struggles then rise in the business. "Happy New Year" is tongue-in-cheek Motown come on to an ex. "Celebrate" is a rock song bout sex when daddy away. "The Mirror" is a dark broken blues song with flourishes of techno that give it a haunting intro. The song deals with coming to terms that he doesn't love his self through all his binges of drugs and alcohol and only has himself to blame. "Mr Rock N Roll" is nothing but classic rock titles put in an order to where they tell a story behind a 1950s-style boogie rock number. "Cucci Galore" is old school throw back of Kid Rock's hip-hop days. The song is a re-write of an Ultra V song. " Cocaine And Gin" is a country blues song pining over losing his girl. The final track is "Midnight Ferry", which is a rewrite of Van Morrison's "Bulbs" about leaving a relationship.

"Cucci Galore", "Happy New Year", "Rebel Soul" and "Redneck Paradise" all failed to chart. "Rebel Soul" became his first studio album since 1996's Early Mornin Stoned Pimp not to go platinum.

Today's tune "Happy New Year" is taken from "Rebel Soul", the ninth studio album by Kid Rock

Best Of 2015

Time to sum up the year 2015.

It’s been one amazing musical year and let’s be honest, far too many good releases, the pile of records have grown alot! Sharing most of them has been a really fun.

Regarding the growth of the record collection have this year been monitored, I have started to use Discogs ;) an excellent product to keep track of all the records. As during the years I lost the control of what I have, haha I guess that I starting to get senil :).
So from time to time I buy the same record that I already have, kind annoying. So Discogs is my best friend atm :) But so far I only have added the records that have been purchased under 2015, can announce that at first sight I started sweating heavily when I saw the number of all the records. It's more than last year, oops! Well all the records aren't brand new, many of them have been found on second hand shops etc if that's a relief :) Yeah for me it is. Think what a bunch of cash I would have if no records was bought, think what I could do with it. Wishful thinking indeed, but then, what a boring life it would be, no new music, no new records that I could sink into and feel that I'm alive.

2015 have been pretty good and not so messy on the personal level, the creativity have raised but not as much as planned, things in life have started to get in place. Work wise it have been as busy as always but the focus have been on other things that on single events. Some new employers has appeared and that I'm thankful for.

Did a fast look thru the Calender for 2015 and after a few pages I Lost the count of the gigs, haha. Anyway here is a picture to show a few of them.

2015 have been the festival year! I think if I count on top of my head I have visit +20 festivals all around Europe this year, fun oh yes. I won't list every single one and won't mention any artists this time, I guess the picture well say it all this time. (Ask if you have any questions in the comments.)

2016 looks like it could be an awesome year, the requests starting to come in already.

Tribulation - The Children Of The Night

At the first place we have the Swedish death metal band TRIBULATION with the best album of 2015 "The Children of the Night".

That TRIBULATION have been exceeded themselves with a magnificent release as this amaze me, holy moses what a album. With the new record the band continue to embrace their signature sound and shows a really wide spectrum of guitar tones and harmonies. The MORBID ANGEL influence that haunted previous albums have slightly changed to more traditional NWOBHM style and classic heavy metal, but also goth and some progressive rock form the 70's. The aggression and occult overtones are still intact and with Johannes gruff monotone vocals the dramatic parts gets life to the songs. In these days it’s hard to stand out, but TRIBULATION has achieved just that and made the best album of 2015!

Today's tune "Melancholia" is taken from "The Children Of The Night"

Khemmis - Absolution

KHEMMIS, A quartet from Denver US, grabs the 2:nd place with the début "Absolution".

"Absolution" have all the components that's needed to be a listenable record. A slow, heavy doom album with melodic nasty guitar tones that reminiscent of stoner metal and a mix of contemporary sludge. It's progressive and brutal without getting too much in one direction. The riffs are cleaver, where the solos partly sings "classic metal" and the rhythm section doing their job to create a massive heavy and progressive atmosphere. The vocals are mixed between deadly growls and very clean. A terrific way to work out the vocal part on this record. The result is "Absolution" a six track, forty-minute journey of properly crafted tunes that shows a very high level writing skill and musicianships. KHEMMIS music breathe fresh and forge a new brick to what heavy progressive doom rock is in 2015.

Today's tune "The Bereaved" taken from "Absolution", enjoy!

We Hunt Buffalo - Living Ghosts

Canadian finest trio WE HUNT BUFFALO takes position 3 with their second album "Living Ghosts".

"Living Ghosts" reminds me of a fruit and not any common fruit as orange or banana, the fruit I have in mind is Chilli, to be more precise. It changes colour nicely during growth, first green, then orange and later take the most fenced blood-red hue. The album sprawls and changes directions during it's play time and touches many different genres, is really fresh and becomes stronger the more you listen. It starts grand with the magnificent instrumental "Ragnarök" which then melts into "Back To The River", a well packed heavy riffery machine that will blow you away, reminds partly of MASTODON, then the record accelerate to a more punkish, slimy, dirty rock n’ roll with "Prairie Oyster". With the 4th track "Hold On" the album take it first turn to the left with a new direction, still heavy but with a more melodic progressive approach (hey FAIR TO MIDLAND), the album continues in this path with killer tune "Comatose". On the 6th track the band hits the break and slows down and gives us the beautiful "Fear". Then it makes another turn, this time to the right and let us flow away with the guitar driven melody of the tune "The Barrens" (The chorus sounds almost like WITCHCRAFT). I slobbers already like a dog and "Looking Glass" plays in my head and follows the previous tune in style. I giggling a bit inwardly and wondering how this will this end. "Walk Again" takes the album to another direction and I start to wonder, is this still the same band. The vocal part is filled with sorrow and regret, the music is more lay back and slowly grows until it fades out in to a psychedelic noise. The album closer "Transcandemic" is a nice well crafted piece that ends the album with a dignity.

Today's tune "Hold On" is taken from "Living Ghosts", enjoy!
