Motörhead - Overkill

Motörhead are a British rock band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Ian Fraser Kilmister, known mostly by his stage name Lemmy, who has remained the sole constant member.

Never posted anything what i thought would be good music during the Summer Soundtrack at Werock.
So why not add at least on tune from that soundtrack.

This what i said would suit as good car music during summer drives.

Travelling by car along with Motorhead is just wonderful, the album "No Remorse" is a classic in my car and have a natural place in my glove box, containing the most and best of these gentlemen, and once one's favorite track with the tune Overkill, I enjoy in full range and chances are that it goes fast between A and B. Motörhead should be played LOUD.

Todays tune "Overkill" was released in 7" and 12" vinyl pressings in 1979. It is backed with B-side "Too Late Too Late" which appears on the CD re-issues of the Overkill album. Early copies came with a free 'Overkill' badge. The song is a live favourite and is frequently featured in Motorhead concerts, often in an extended version.

The artwork on the sleeve was created by Joe Petagno, based on his design for the album's cover.

Slash & Myles Kennedy - Back From Cali

"Back from Cali" is the fourth track from Slash's self-titled solo album. It is one of the two songs on the album to feature Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy on lead vocals, the other being "Starlight." The song was written and recorded in March 2010 added to the album's track listing at the last minute since Slash was so impressed with Kennedy's performance on "Starlight." He later asked Kennedy to front his solo touring band. Both "Back from Cali" and "Starlight" have since become regular features in Slash's live shows.

A Perfect Circle - Judith

A Perfect Circle is an American rock band formed in 1999 by Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and guitarist Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel. A Perfect Circle is an extension of the alt-metal-fused-with-art rock style popularized by Tool in the early to mid-’90s. While its similar to Tool in intensity and melancholy, A Perfect Circle is less dark and more melodic.

The band has released three albums: Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and Emotive. The group has not recorded, toured or released any new material since its hiatus began in 2004. Since then band members have worked on other projects; the most notable being Keenan's work on Tool's 2006 album 10,000 Days, and Howerdel's founding of the band Ashes Divide.

On June 10, 2010, Keenan revealed that he is working on a fourth LP for A Perfect Circle.

Todays tune "Judith" is a song that is released as the first single from their debut album Mer de Noms. Guitarist Billy Howerdel noted that "Judith" was "a truly unique song, in that it was done from start to finish - in just one sitting". According to Howerdel, he had parts of Judith already completed prior to meeting vocalist Maynard James Keenan. After Keenan joined, the song became heavier, and the song is also one of the heaviest songs on the album. Maynard James Keenan explains on the aMOTION DVD how the song is about his mother Judith Marie Keenan, who suffered a stroke and was restricted to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Funkadelic was an African American music band most prominent during the 1970s. It and its sister act Parliament, both led by George Clinton, began the funk music culture of that decade.

Parliafunkadelicment loses its "Diaper Man". The Funk World is in mourning at the news that Garry 'Starchild' Shider, George Clinton's musical director and right hand man for 40 years, succumbed to brain cancer on June 16.

Apart from acting as main conduit between Clinton and his legions of musicians, Shider was renowned for taking the stage clad only in a large nappy, earning him the tag 'Diaper Man'. After hooking up with Funkadelic on 1971's Maggot Brain album, he sang, co-wrote and played guitar on all their major albums, along with sister group Parliament's post-1974 output, Clinton's later solo projects and many P-Funk offshoots. Shider was also band leader of Clinton's current P-Funk All Stars.

Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, in July, 1953, He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.

Steve Hackett - A Midsummer Night's Dream

Stephen Richard Hackett (born 12 February 1950) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. He gained prominence as a member of the British progressive rock group Genesis and GTR.

After the Genesis & GTR years, Hackett resumed his solo career and has released albums and toured on a regular basis since. His body of work has encompassed many styles, such as progressive rock, world music, and classical. His playing has influenced guitarists such as Alex Lifeson and Brian May. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.

Today its Midsummers eve in Sweden and Tune Of The Day wants to wish you all a Great Midsummer with a nice piece of music and this is nothing that we normal have on this site, but somehow it felt right. Its a classical tune written by Shakespeare.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy by William Shakespeare. It is believed to have been written around 1594 to 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

Flogging Molly - Seven Deadly Sins

Forth day of the Werock Summer Soundtrack and today we will cover the Barbeque theme.

Frsssssstt, thats the sounds you hear when the meat hits the hot barbeque steel.

The heat quivering in the air above and immediately spread that special flavor that is almost only possible to achieve through the grill. The sound of clinking china while laying the table, the table borned down by the load, who can barely keep any beverage, food and decorations up. Anxious glance at the sky to see if the weather is stable or if you must evacuate indoors. Swedish summer offers clearly a lot of opportunities for a barbeque and gather and enjoy celebrations with good friends.

Here you have the authors' proposal to raise the mood even more!

Flogging Molly with the tune "Seven Deadly Sins" from the album "Within A Mile From Home" is what Fredrik chosen for a perfect barbeque record. Let see what Fredrik has to say about this.
-------------------------
Although there are hoards of music that would suit for an evening of barbecue with good friends, but despite that, the choice is quite simple. Packed with Irish sounding joy and warmth and playful energy, is the 2004 "Within A Mile From Home" not only one of my favorite records all categories, but also the perfect audio backdrop to the above scenario. Jovial enough to induce relaxed happiness, but crazy catchy enough to get people to want to take a couple of beers and dancing on the table...
-------------------------

"Within A Mile From Home" is dedicated to Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash, as indicated in the album's liner notes. "The Seven Deadly Sins" is a tribute to Joe Strummer in the line "Johnny strummed his tommy gun", as Strummer's actual name is John Graham Mellor. *also The Clash had a song named "Tommy Gun"

Deep Purple - Hush

Today is a bit special, it's Thetanias Birthday and Tune Of The Day haven't forgot her. So to celebrate this woman we need some good old music. So an extra tune just for her.

I have chosen a tune from a band "Deep Purple" that i know is very close to her. The tune "Hush" is a song written by Joe South for Billy Joe Royal. It was a minor hit in 1967. The song is better known for the version by British hard rock band Deep Purple, recorded on May 11, 1968, for their debut album Shades of Deep Purple. So this for you my love.

Metallica - Orion

Third day of the Werock Summer Soundtrack. Todays theme is Summer driving.

Driving a car can be a quiescent experience at any time of year, but a really great summer offers many beautiful options. Sitting in a convertible and gently driving and hear the tires crunches over a dirt road. Hanging out with friends in a car hot as sauna and roll through the center of the town with the windows opened. In solo contemplation when miles on the highway disappearing into the bright summer night.

To do this the best way possible of course, requires music.
Good one.

Get WeRock-favorite authors and what we associate with the summer driving!

Todays tune is "Orion" with Metallica from the album Master Of Puppets and is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Metallic. It was released on March 3, 1986. Master of Puppets met with significant critical acclaim at the time of its release. The album is considered a classic thrash metal album by fans, critics, and the band members themselves alike, and is also considered one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time.

Metallica with the album Masters Of Puppets is what Jonte choose for his Summer Soundtrack. Let's see what he has to say about it.

Best of all is of course to drive alone on the summer night, preferably on a highway in one of Sweden's plains. Let then Metallica escort you through journey with the album "Master of Puppets" at a dangerously high volume. When Orion then starts, you will never - and I mean never! - Like to stop driving.

Tiamat - Will They Come

Today its time for the second day of the Summer Soundtrack at Werock, that Tune Of The Day is following. Todays theme is Summer Rain.

Summer is not just ice cream in the sun, tanned skin and sun glasses. It is also wonderfully sweet-smelling summer rain and a sudden darkening clouds as warm fronts collide with cold fronts. Black sky, a light drizzle, which quickly becomes so intense that it almost looks like a gray wall while the water beats against the ground. Flashing lightning which lit up the dark clouds and then a deep, powerful thunderstorms that dominates everything.

The summer thunderstorm are powerful and special and that forms an excellent backdrop for hard music!

Todays tune is "Will They Come" with Tiamat from the album Amanethes and is the ninth studio album by Swedish gothic metal band Tiamat. It was released on April 18, 2008. The album was more positively received than Tiamat's previous releases, in part because of its more extreme metal sound similar to that of the band's early work.

Tiamat "Amanethes" is what Robert choose for his Summer Soundtrack. Let's see what he has to say about it.

To sit on a patio with a roof, feed on the atmosphere by rain, thunder, lightning with this album at high volume is something that can not be beaten. The album has some hard intense passages to match nature's fury, as well as evocative parties to the quieter spraying rain. The whole album actually feels that it's made for just that purpose, and will not be the worse of the following text line, "It's Been Five Long Years of thunder, lightning and rain ..."!

Queensrÿche - Empire

Summer is for many the best time of the year. So in the next few days will Werock further enhance the experience, the glorious summer situations with a fitting soundtrack to them. So its time for some great Rock music to prepare for Midsummer. Tune Of The Day will follow this event and chose a tune from one of the 5 Werock-authors (Robert, Jonte, Martin, Fredrik and me). Check up the article here! (In Swedish)

We start today, and there is hardly any better way to start than with a big holiday?

Imagine the perfect day. The sun is exactly enough strong, the wind cools without interfering. In the background you can hear people murmur, but it does not bother you, you've found your place. On the bridge, with water lapping beneath you. In the hammock, that swung back and forth. On the beach, with waves as background symphony. It is, quite simply, the perfect opportunity to enjoy music through headphones. Maybe close your eyes for a moment and just slip away. Get Werock-authors' favorite spot for a lazy summer day, and what is appropriate music to listen to.

Todays tune is "Empire" with Queensrÿche and what did Martin say about this.

"Empire" makes me huge good mood! Although I also adore "Operation: Mindcrime" but "Empire" breathe so much more enthusiasm than the masterpiece of mental manipulation and brainwashing. Songs by "Jet City Woman", "Empire", "Resistance", "Silent Lucidity" and "Hand On Heart" makes me both calm and excited at the same time and gives what is typically easy-listening: moderately easy listening, yet full enough to keep you interested and not to fall a sleep in the sun bed.

The tune is appearing on their 1990 album Empire. The lyrical content of the song warns of a foreboding and unstoppable "Empire" of drug trafficking within the United States and its related crimes, that will inevitably lead to the breakdown of civility in American society. "Can you feel it coming?"

Rod Stewart - Maggie May

Roderick David "Rod" Stewart, (born 10 January 1945) is a British singer-songwriter born and raised in London, England and currently residing in Epping. He is of Scottish and English lineage.
With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with The Jeff Beck Group and then Faces. He launched his solo career in 1969 with his debut album An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down. His latest release was "Once in a Blue Moon" a "lost album" originally recorded in 1992, featuring ten cover songs including the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday", Dylan's "The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar" and Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back", as well as Tom Waits' "Tom Traubert's Blues." Released the 14 Jan 2010.

At the moment Rod is out on tour and visit Sweden for two shows, Stockholm and Malmö. I was at the show in Stockholm. What i could tell about the show that is Rod is in a very good shape and he still has his voice and his charisma, Rod is still very fancy about blonde girls...hehe. See below for the rest of the tour.

So for today we have a classic tune "Maggie May". It is a song written by singer Rod Stewart and Martin Quittenton and recorded by Stewart in 1971 for his album Every Picture Tells a Story. "Maggie May" expresses the ambivalence and contradictory emotions of a young man involved in a relationship with an older woman, and was written from Stewart's own experience. In a issue of Q magazine, Stewart recalled: "Maggie May was more or less a true story, about the first woman I had sex with, at the Beaulieu Jazz Festival." Todays video is with Faces back in 1971, Enjoy!

Willie Nelson - Gravedigger

Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 30, 1933) is an American country singer-songwriter, author, poet, actor and activist. He reached his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, and remains iconic, especially in American popular culture.

Willie Nelson continues to tour and has performed in concerts. He also continues to record albums prolifically in new genres that embrace reggae, blues, jazz, folk, and popular music.

A few days ago (Monday) he performed for a sold out Circus here in Stockholm, this concert was very good and he once again could show he's most extravagant talents. It was a largely pretty straight forward greatest hits show where the band played the same Western swing rhythm and 77-year-old Willie doing well but nowadays not always so precise guitar playing. But this is still very good so with the right age, he for one can do exactly what he really wants. Tunes as "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain", "Always on My Mind" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine" was played among others. Some groups throw guitar picks, but not Willie he throws his bandanas in to the audience :)

There was a fan that had a custom made bike that was called "Trigger" i guess it was named after Willie guitar. The bike was well made, with Willie tune names on the mudguard, handmade saddle with his name on. Willie got really thrilled to see this so he signed the bike :)

Todays tune "Gravedigger" is a song by Dave Matthews here performed by Willie Nelson and it was released on Willies album "Moment of Forever" -2008.

Mustasch is a Swedish hardrock band that was the 2:nd opening act on the Kiss show last weekend. Mustasch is from Orust/Gothernburg. Had a little chat with Mats Johansson before the show and he was very happy to be at Stadion, so happy that he decided to buy a new pair of pants before he arrived :) The band did a well performance and Ralphie was drunk as usual :)

Europe - Dreamer

Europe, the Swedish hard rock band that did a warm up gig for Kiss this weekend. As usual Europe is a solid live band no doubt about that, they always deliver a good show and so they did again, have seen them many times before and this was a pretty good performance. A big thrill for them i guess to play for almost 35 thousand peoples and many of the fans who was there just wanted to see Europe and nothing else.

Todays tune "Dreamer" is a real classic one, was released as a single back in 1984. It was the second single from the Wings of Tomorrow album. The single was only released in Japan. It bears a strong resemblance to the hit single Carrie that was released two years later. The song is referenced in the song "Time Has Come" off the band's next album in the lyric "Pray for the dreamer/He's still so sad." In 1993 the song was included on their greatest hits compilation 1982-1992. In 2008 the song was played at the Almost Unplugged album.

Here is a clip from the Unplugged show at Nalen, Jan, 2008

Kiss - Love Gun

This weekend we had some Kiss fever here in Sweden, with the Hottest band in the world, here for two shows, one in Stockholm(Saturday) and one in Malmö(Sunday), all this in the middle of the Love 2010 festival, so it suited just fine with a Kiss. I was based in Stockholm, Stadion and had a ruff but nice week.

Kiss rides in style.

The show in Stockholm also include two Swedish support bands, Mustasch and Europe witch i will come back to tomorrow. Kiss did of course a marvelous show with loads of effects like bangs, shoots and lightning effects (I wonder how much they spend on pyro at each show?) the show in total was pretty similar to the last time they visit Sweden, overall it was a ok show. It missed a few tunes that i would like to hear like "I Stole Your Love", "Strutter", "Rocket Ride"

Here is a clip from O2 Islington Academy March 2 2010

Here is a clip from Aftonbladet just before they entred the stage in Stockholm.

A funny thing was that a friend of mine that works as a tech with Europe only did this gig to be able to make a call to his friends in Hellacopters and Backyard Babies (all of the guys are huge fans of Kiss) to say to them that now Kiss is entering the stage and i am leaving :) - He do not like Kiss!

Omar Lye-Fook - Music

This artist will end my report on Stockholm Jazz Fest.

The Fest was great, first day on thursday it was quite sunny and nice.
I was on stage #3 and my eminent stagemanager was Yohanna Karnik.
She did a very good job and my coworker was Andres Merenna.
We had a ball and I think the artists was pleased as well.

Second day and third was a bit rainy and windy, but all the music
on all 3 stages was so groovy so it was 3 great days anyway :)
One of the Omar group got the loge key with them to UK I think
cos we couldnt find it, I saw a window that was a bit open.
It was some how broken but a security guard helped me to get it up
and I climbed in and got the loge unlocked.
Then when I should shut the window it braked
and I got it in my hand hehe Ahwell we manage to shut it.

The technicians on the other 2 stages was marvellous so was the stagehands.
My greatest moment was when Kool and The Gang did their sound check.
I was in trance and danced like a mad :)

Okey back to Omar Lye-fook, he is a British soul singer, songwriter and musician.
He a very underestimated artist, I highly encourage anyone with
the opportunity to see him live to do so.

He did 6 albums between 1990 and 2006.
He have preformed with:
Angie Stone
Caron Wheeler (vocalist for Soul II Soul)
Galliano
Erykah Badu
Guru (of veteran rap group, Gangstarr)
Kele Le Roc, of Basement Jaxx fame
Stevie Wonder, whom Omar has collaborated with on multiple occasions
and that is not the whole list.

Ive seldom heard sutcha voice, it is so soulful and rich and
to tell you the truth, there aren't enough words to describe it.

I´ll give you 2 videos one that I unfortunately dont have a name to.

Ladys and Gents, here is Omar!

Grace Kelly Quintet - Summertime

Grace Kelly!

This Lady is from Boston and she just turned 18.
Grace visited Stockholm Jazz Festival at the first day.

I was suprised, so suprised, so skilled with that alto sax,
and she could sing like a bird as well.
She is impressive in many ways she is a saxophonist /vocalist
/composer /lyricist and an arranger what about that?!

Grace says. I started alto privately, at age 10, not being patient enough to wait until they would allow me to study it in school. Once I played the alto for the first time I got a nice sound right away and it felt so right. I fell in love with the alto…the range fits my voice range perfectly and I feel like I’m "singing” through the horn. I never felt the need to permanently switch to tenor even though so many of my idols are tenor players.

She sold her albums at the side of the stage.
On one album she looked so young so I had to ask how old she was when recording that and the answer was 12...oii thats something!

So young but she already recorded and/or performed with many notable musicians such as: Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Dave Brubeck, Hank Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Frank Morgan, Kenny Barron, Cedar Walton, Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland, Harry Connick, Jr., Russell Malone, Rufus Reid, Matt Wilson, Ann Hampton Callaway, Jerry Bergonzi, Terri Lyne Carrington, Dianne Reeves, Chris Potter, Adam Rogers, Christian Scott, Billy Hart, Winard Harper, George Cables, Ronnie Matthews, Ray Drummond, Peter Bernstein, and James Cotton, among others.

Ill give you 2 videos, one from 2009 and one from when she was only 15.

Listen and enjoy it.. mmmmmm

Peace, Thetania

I wanted to show u one when she was 15 years old.

Missy Elliot - Lose Control

Do ya all know Melissa Arnette Elliott? Thought so, if I say:
At the age of four in 1975, she wanted to be a performer,
though she knew no one took her seriously, as she was always the class clown...
Hip hop R&B...
She is an American recording artist, producer, actress and former member of the R&B band Sista as well as the Swing Mob collective...

Of course, Missy Elliott!

This energic lady with her energic dancers preformed on the last day of the Stockholm Jazz Fest. Marvelous and very much beat.

She did 7 albums first in 1997 and last in 2010.
I took this tune from her 6th album called The Cookbook.

Lets get into the grooove with Missy E

Love Yah all,
Thetania
