Leadbelly - Where Did you Sleep Last Night

I got so thrilled with the cover that Mark Lanegan and Nirvana made so why not add the original version.
It is a traditional song that Leadbelly was the first to record it. Lanegan and Cobain heard it and loved it.

Huddie William Ledbetter, (January, 1888 – December 6, 1949) was an American folk and blues musician, notable for his clear and forceful singing, his virtuosity on the twelve string guitar, and the rich songbook of folk standards he introduced.
He is best known as Leadbelly or Lead Belly. Though many releases list him as "Leadbelly," he himself spelled it "Lead Belly." This is also the usage on his tombstone

dEUS - Slow

Yesterday i saw this band performing at Debaser/Stockholm.
Great show and marvelous sound.

Deus (or dEUS) is an indie rock band based in Antwerp, Belgium, currently consisting of Tom Barman (vocals and guitar), Klaas Janzoons (keyboards and violin), Stéphane Misseghers (drums), Alan Gevaert (bass) and Mauro Pawlowski (guitar and vocals).

The band, whose songs are primarily sung in English, was founded in Antwerp in 1989, but did not get its form until after Humo's Rock Rally of 1992. In the tour that followed through Spain, set up by Filip Eyckmans, they laid the foundation for their sound. Deus displays a bewildering array of influences, including Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Big Star, Sonic Youth, Sun Ra and Mingus-style jazz, Leonard Cohen and the Velvet Underground. Consequently, they incorporate a wide variety of styles, including Pop, Folk, Free Jazz, Prog, Punk and Heavy Metal into their work. They became one of the most successful (and influential) Belgian rock bands ever.

The first dEUS video from the 2008 album Vantage Point is for the Single 'Slow'. 'Slow' features guest vocals by Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife.
The album Vantage Point was released on April 21st.

Mark Lannegan - Where Did You Sleep Last Night

FANTASTIC version featuring Kurt on guitar and Kris on bass, listen closely and you hear Kurt singing some back up screaming at the end of the song. This album ended up being a huge influence on Nirvana`s Unplugged performance.

In a Rolling Stone article from July 14, 2005, Dave Grohl had the following to say about The Winding Sheet:

"We'd seen the other Unpluggeds and didn't like many of them, because most bands would treat them like rock shows -- play their hits like it was Madison Square Garden, except with acoustic guitars. We wanted to do something different. Like, let's call the Meat Puppets, and let's see if we can learn this Bowie cover. Like the Lead Belly song ["Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" -- also recorded by Mark Lanegan]. Kurt looked up to Lanegan, and his first solo record, The Winding Sheet, is one of the best albums of all time. That was the soundtrack to my first six months in Olympia [Washington]. I listened to it every day -- when the sun wouldn't come up, when it went down too early and when it was cold and raining. I was lonely. I'd listen to that record for reasons. It was a huge influence on our Unplugged thing."

Nina Simone - Ain't Got No...I've Got Life

High Priestess of Soul, or Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known by her stage name Nina Simone.
imone is generally classified as a jazz musician. Simone originally aspired to become a classical pianist, but her work covers an eclectic variety of musical styles besides her classical basis, such as jazz, soul, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop music. Her vocal style is characterized by intense passion, a loose vibrato, and a slightly androgynous timbre, in part due to her unusually low vocal range which veered between the alto and tenor ranges (occasionally even reaching baritone lows).

Tindersticks - No More Affairs

Todays tune is from the british band Tindersticks.
They did a great performance at (Debaser) Stockholm Sweden earlier this week with Special Guest Nathalie Nordnes.

Tindersticks sound is characterised by a synthesis of orchestral backing, lounge jazz, and soul; the lush orchestrations of multi-instrumentalist Dickon Hinchliffe and the smoky baritone of lead vocalist Stuart Staples are the band's hallmarks.

Todays tune is a beautiful song and magnificent, charming video.
