Satyricon - Mother North

A little dreary day, weather-wise, however, it has been given the opportunity for a bit of painting, both snakes and crows have been created, on the way to being finished. Lots of music is played. Tested with connecting my wife's iPad to the stereo and ran a little random on one of my play-lists on Spotify, one of the songs that popped up was this.

Todays tune "Mother North" is the centerpiece taken from Nemesis Divina (Latin for "divine nemesis") the third studio album by Norwegian black metal band Satyricon. It was released on 22 April 1996. Nemesis Divina is generally considered a classic of the black metal genre.

A music video was released for "Mother North", which was generally uncommon within the black metal scene at the time. The video opens with "Montagues and Capulets". The video briefly appeared in the mainstream film Spun.

Satyricon (pronounced: suh-Teer-I-con) is a Norwegian black metal band. The band credits their first album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal sub-genre dubbed "medieval metal." The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with the raw black metal with blastbeats produced by Frost mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On the next album The Shadowthrone this medieval spirit was preserved.

Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, the frontman of the band, Satyr, stated in a press release/biography, published on their homepage, that "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy." It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".

They have many famous fans: Phil Anselmo, James Hetfield, Joey Jordison, Bjørn Einar Romøren, and many more.

They have toured with Pantera, among others.

Whitesnake - Ready An' Willing

New week, time to present this week's album!

That we here in Stockholm has received a visit from lots of nice artists recently is absolutely wonderful, more to come. Some of these would potentially have put his guitar on the back shelf a long time ago while others only grow the older they get.

That this week's album might refer to this is hard to escape, given that the band actually visiting us on Wednesday for a gig at Gröna Lund, a gig that I anguish a little over, can be magical, but even a belly flop (Swedish saying). However, this gig on the same day as my daughter's graduation so we'll see how that goes with it, but the family must come before work and pleasure!

The band I'm talking about needs no introduction so we can jump on the material directly.

The Record Of The Week is "Ready an' Willing" was Whitesnake's third studio album, released in 1980.

The album featured two of the band's UK single-hits from that year: "Fool for Your Loving" and the title-track, "Ready an' Willing (Sweet Satisfaction)". In August 1980 "Fool for Your Loving" would later be re-recorded for the Slip of the Tongue album. The track "Blindman" initially from Coverdale's first solo album was re-recorded for this album.

The line up on this record is pretty awsome:

David Coverdale – vocals
Micky Moody – guitars
Bernie Marsden – guitars
Jon Lord – keyboards
Neil Murray – bass
Ian Paice – drums

Opener "Fool for Your Lovin'" was their best single yet, with its clever combination of hit-savvy chorus and authentic bluesy resignation, it set the template for subsequent triumphs! More highlights includes the live favorite "Sweet Talker" (were Micky Moody's expert slide guitar given it an extra), the great ballads in "Blindman" and "Ain't Gonna Cry No More." and Todays Tune, the groovie title track. This is an album that you should have in your record shelf!

Whitesnake are a British rock band, founded in 1978 by David Coverdale after his departure from his previous band, Deep Purple. Their early material has been compared by critics to Deep Purple, but they slowly began moving for a more commercially accessible hard rock style. By the turn of the decade, the band's commercial fortunes changed and they released a string of UK top 10 albums, Ready an' Willing (1980), Come an' Get It (1981), Saints & Sinners (1982) and Slide It In (1984), the latter of which was their first to chart in the US and eventually went 2x platinum.

The band's 1987 self-titled album was their most commercially successful worldwide, and contained two major US hits, "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love", reaching number one and two on the Hot 100. In 1988, Whitesnake was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. Slip of the Tongue (1989), was also a success, reaching the top 10 in the US and UK, and receiving a 2x platinum US certification. The band split up shortly after this release, but had a reunion in 1994, and released a one-off studio album, Restless Heart (1997).

Whitesnake officially reformed in 2002 and have been touring together since, releasing two studio albums, Good to Be Bad (2008) and Forevermore (2011). In 2005, Whitesnake was named the 85th greatest hard rock band of all time by VH1.

Kiss - Deuce

Sunday, classic time, then it's just as well that we take out yesterday's concert out of the coat sleeve and invites you on some honourable classic rock with the band Kiss!

Yesterday did Kiss visited Stockholm for a show, the first gig on European soil, but they have been here since last Wednesday, a new scene and rehearsals were on this week's agenda before it was time to open the doors to the public. The Show was pretty cool, even if the guys have reached their age. Was nice to bump into Spader Ess and his kids, i hope they got a great evening at friends arena with the hottest band on earth!

The new Kiss stage show, first used in the European leg, will involve a giant robotic spider that will move across the stage and all four members will be lifted into the air. Also, the spider will shoot pyro from it's legs and its eyes will glow. The stage will be 100 percent new and not a rehashed stage where the amps and stairs are simply moved around and then called a new stage. Instead of being hoisted into the air per usual at 8 feet per second, Gene is now going to be up to double that amount of time and will be using a new type of tether that is see through.

Here is some pictures:

Todays tune "Deuce" is a song by the American hard rock band Kiss. Written by Kiss bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons the song appeared on Kiss' eponymous 1974 debut album. In addition to being one of the band's most popular and most-covered songs, "Deuce" is a traditional concert opener. The song was performed on almost every tour to date, and has appeared on many Kiss' live and compilation albums, as well on Ace Frehley's.

According to Gene Simmons, he simply copied the bassline of The Rolling Stones' "Bitch" and played it more or less backwards. The entire song was written nearly linearly; the riff came first, then the bridge, then finally the chorus. While uncredited, Paul Stanley provided the lightly phased intro riff, inspired by The Raspberries' "Go All The Way".

"Deuce" also has special significance for Ace Frehley, who calls it his favorite Kiss song. "When I auditioned for Kiss", recalls Frehley, "they said, 'We're going to play you a song for you to listen to, and then try playing along — it's in the key of 'A'. They played "Deuce" as a three-piece. I thought, 'That's easy enough,' so I got up and wailed for four minutes playing lead work over it.".

Gene Simmons stated in reference to the song "Lyrically, I had no idea what I was talking about. Sometimes stuff means a lot, sometimes it means nothing." "Deuce" was a popular street term in the late 1960s and early 1970s (around the time in which this song was written), meaning fellatio and full sex afterwards.

On July 28, 2009, a live version was released along with "100,000 Years" (Live) and "Parasite" (Live) in the Kiss 01 track pack for Rock Band 2. Live performances

The song was performed during the first tours, mostly as the opener. It was dropped from the setlist for the Rock & Roll Over Tour and wasn't performed regularly in the USA until the Hot in the Shade Tour in 1990. It was played in some one-off shows in the USA in 1988 as well as the European Crazy Nights Tour in 1988. Gene Simmons said that at the band's first tours, after they did the usual setlist and encore, they didn't have any more songs to play so they played "Deuce" again.

Kiss performs Deuce on a t.v show in 1975.

Beth & Joe - Nutbush City Limits

Much buzzed about singer-songwriter Beth Hart, known for her raw and powerful blues-rock sound, and guitarist Joe Bonamassa, one of the best guitarists of his generation, did released their sophomore album of classic soul covers Seesaw on May 21, 2013 Seesaw is the follow up to 2011's Don't Explain, on which Slant called Hart "a simply peerless frontwoman".

Beth Hart continues to explore her blues and soul roots via 11 cover versions of her favorite tracks on Seesaw, her second album with blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa.  Seesaw opens with one of Hart's biggest inspirations Billie Holiday's  "Them There Eyes"  a rock blues take on Ike & Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits", the Buddy Miles penned "Miss Lady," The influence of Janis Joplin and Etta James is evident on the powerful ballads "If I Tell You I Love You" and "A Sunday Kind of Love." The album closes with an eerie version of the anti-lynching poem from 1937 associated with Billie Holiday, "Strange Fruit."

Also returning from the Don't Explain album are Bonamassa's band containing of Anton Fig (drums and percussion), Blondie Chaplin (guitar), Carmine Rojas (bass), Arlan Schierbaum (keyboards), Lenny Castro (percussion), and Michael Rhodes (bass on "I'll Love You More Than You'll Ever Know").

On todays tune "Nutbush City Limits," Hart wails with an intensity that would make Tina Turner proud.
