Stian Helle (bass & backing vocals)

“What if Jack the Ripper had played in a band? A heavy metal band?”
This is the question that formed and influenced WE SELL THE DEAD, this is the question that made the band.
Revolving around Guitarist - Niclas Engelin (IN FLAMES, ENGEL), Bass player - Jonas Slättung (DRÖMRIKET), Drummer - Gas Lipstick (former HIM) and the voice of Apollo Papathanasio (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, FIREWIND), WE SELL THE DEAD go beyond the strains of conventional storytelling and create a multi-media experience of premium quality heavy metal music embedded in visually stimulating and atmospheric visuals.
WE SELL THE DEAD’s debut album “Heaven Doesn’t Want You And Hell Is Full” is going to be released on February 23rd, 2018 on earMUSIC.
Heavy, yet melodic sounds transport the listener into a Victorian inspired world that is defined by pompous manors and daunting luxury standing in deep contrast to the harshness and cruelty of the gutter. It is a world that reeks of hysteria, but above all a sense of mysticism and dark romanticism. WE SELL THE DEAD’s music rises above this, not merely pointing out this injustice, but expanding the narrative into the extreme, playing with themes of ghosts, death or religion.
But not only…
Despite a reference to Victorian times, WE SELL THE DEAD maintains a very modern and ever-so-current approach that translates to the world we live in today.
Jonas Slättung Explains: “From the late 1800, an era that has inspired our band enormously, comes one of the greatest and darkest crime mysteries of them all: Jack the Ripper. We don’t know 100% who he was but we know his horrendous deeds. All the visuals we had in our mind, combined with the sometimes slightly morbid lyrics, made us think that this is what music would have sounded like if heavy metal had existed in the 19th century, or if Jack the Ripper had travelled forward in time to join a metal band. We Sell the Dead would have been his natural choice for a backing band. He probably would have felt right at home with us.
But, at the same time, the world hasn’t exactly evolved into a beautiful place since the 1880’s.
In the 1979 movie, ‘Time After Time’, Jack the Ripper escapes justice by, indeed, fleeing in a time machine to 1979. After getting caught by his followers, The Ripper utters this line of wisdom:
– back in 1893, I was a monster. Today...I’m an amateur.”
THE QUILL is back with its classic set from the albums "Silver Haze", "Voodoo Caravan" and "Hooray, It's A Deathtrip". On the brand new album "Born From Fire" the quartet has retained the feeling of the 70's intact and offers twelve blinding stone rockers.
On Vocals we find Magnus Ekwall (AYREON) who together with drummer Jolle Atlagic (HANOI ROCKS, ELECTRIC BOYS), guitarist Christian Carlsson and bassist Roger Nilson (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, FIREBIRD) show how dynamic the band sounds again.
Today´s tune "Stone Believer" is the first single and video from the latest release, enjoy!
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA are back with a brand new single "Midnight Flyer" from the upcoming album "Amber Galactic”, set to be released on the 19th of May.
And i must scream out loud!!! HOLY CRAP! This is awesome, Björn ”Fucking" Strid, you are my idol!
He comments the tune.
”»Amber Galactic« is a relationship drama set in space, the first classic rock space opera on double vinyl. As seasoned musicians, we’re taking this project seriously, although we might come across as slightly retrofuturistic at times, there’s no irony involved. It’s just us trying to shape our future into a place where our race is led by female space commanders with pearl necklaces and a quasar sense of gravity. »Amber Galactic« is about setting free from genre boundaries and expectations that are put on people like us. We just want to create music that we would like to hear ourselves, but that isn’t only for us.
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA is here to set you free, to invite you to enjoy music in whatever form it is presented. For this particular journey, we’d like you to follow us into space, but who knows where we’ll go next! After entering the NFO universe, you won’t ever be the same!”

The Swedish melodic death metal band ARCH ENEMY have released their fourth music video "Stolen Life" and the first track from the latest album "War Eternal"
with the new guitarist Jeff Loomis.
ARCH ENEMY the Swedish melodic death metal band, originally a supergroup, from Halmstad, formed in 1996. Its members were in bands such as CARCASS, ARMAGEDDON, CARNAGE, MERCYFUL FATE, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and EUCHARIST. It was founded by CARCASS guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the influential death metal band CARNAGE. The band has released nine studio albums, two live albums, three video albums and three EPs. The band was originally fronted by Johan Liiva, who was replaced by German Angela Gossow as lead vocalist in 2000. Gossow left the band in March 2014 and was replaced by Canadian Alissa White-Gluz, while remaining as the group's manager.
On March 17, 2014, Gossow released a statement announcing her departure from the group and welcoming her replacement, former vocalist of Canadian extreme metal band THE AGONIST, Alissa White-Gluz. In the statement, she wrote that while she had enjoyed her time with the group, it was time for her to move on, be with her family and pursue other interests. Gossow did confirm that she would remain ARCH ENEMYs business manager, and would be "passing the torch to the super talented Alissa White-Gluz, whom I’ve known as a dear friend and a superb vocalist for many years. I always thought she deserved a chance to shine – and now she’s getting it. Just like I got that chance back in 2001."
White-Gluz also released a statement saying: "I am very honoured and happy to announce a new chapter in my life and musical career. Wages of Sin was the first metal album I ever bought, and it was love at first listen. It is not often that you get a phone call from your favourite band asking you to join! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such amazingly talented musicians whom I also consider great friends. I look forward to being able to write and perform at a whole new level now with ARCH ENEMY! Music is forever, metal is limitless and this is only the beginning!"
Setup today:
Alissa White-Gluz − lead vocals
Michael Amott − lead and rhythm guitar, keyboards
Jeff Loomis − lead and rhythm guitar
Sharlee D'Angelo − bass guitar
Daniel Erlandsson − drums
Todays tune "Stolen Life" is taken from the ninth studio album "War Eternal", which was released on June 9, 2014 by Century Media. It is the first ARCH ENEMY album in 13 years to feature a new line-up, with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals after former long-time vocalist Angela Gossow stepped down from vocal duties to be the band's business manager, along with ex-ARSIS guitarist Nick Cordle replacing Christopher Amott in 2012. Cordle left the band just before their European tour and was replaced by former NEVERMORE Guitarist Jeff Loomis.
A fourth music video for the track "Stolen Life" was released on 5th May 2015 which was the first to include Jeff Loomis on guitar. The track was different to the studio version, as it includes 2 extra solos recorded by Loomis.
Doctor Cyclops is a seventies-style power trio playing heavy rock music inspired by a vintage sound, eldest son of glorious Balck Sabbath and of other more underground heroes from the 70ies and early 80ies such as Truth and janey, Sir Lord Baltimore, Captain Beyond, Witchfinder General. Even later and more modern references are warm-vintage style ones: Witchcraft, Firebird, Cathedral, Spiritual Beggars just to say some.
The project was born in 2007 in Oltrepo in a small village called Bosmenso, in the middle of the Appennino mountains. A place where winters are long and quite often really cold. Former members are Christian Draghi (guitar and vocals) and Francesco Filippini (bass), childhood friends who try to push by with their passionated love for music and good riffs. Doctor Cyclops’ music is an obscure kind of heavy old style rock, its groove made by a miscellanous heap mix of influences, which go from the progressive to the doom stuff played with a raw and dusty wish.
Christian Draghi - Guitar and Vocals Francesco Filippini - Bass Alessandro Dallera - Drums
They record the first demo-ep in the spring of 2008, and call it “The flying machines burning”. It contains four songs, two original tracks (“Night Flyer” and “Eileen O’Flaherty” and two covers, “Born to die in Berlin” by Ramones and “Freelance Fiend” by Leaf Hound). Self producted and self recorded, this first homemade work raise the attention of a website specialized in stoner-rock music, Perkele.it, which publishes a really good review.
Exept for a restricted number of gigs in 2008, Doctor Cyclops’ live activity starts in the early 2009. In the may of the same year they share the stage with Bill Steer’s Firebird, for whom they open the act on the first show of their “Italian Tour of Fire”.
In the same period they record two more original songs, “My Revolution” and “Angel Saviour in the Cannibal House” and release them in a self producted single which raises the attention of an english site, thesleepingshaman.com, which publishes another great review exalting the band’s seventies groove. http://www.thesleepingshaman.com/reviews/album/doctorcyclops.php
In the summer of 2009 Doctor Cyclops hit the studio to record a tune for a film soundtrack. Their song “Silver Serpent” is included in the soundtrack of the italian edition of the film “Megiddo: The Omega Code” (in Italy “2012 L’avvento del male”) by 20th Century Fox, released in november. At the same time they keep on working together with bands from the italian and european underground scene such as Stake off the Witch, Matra, Phased, Black Cargo, Sidharta, with who they share a tour in northern Italy in 2009, and Last Barons (who they follow on their last italian tour dates).
In november 2010 the band gained his first abroad experience playing some shows in Germany in occasion of the releasing of his first self producted Ep. Simply called “The Doctor Cyclops”, the cd collects all the five original songs recorded by the band untill now plus a live bonus track. In April 2011 the band took his first european tour through France and Belgium, opening the act for canadians Blood Ceremony in Paris. In the summer they record their first full lenght which will be released in the early 2012 through the german label World in Sound. The ending of 2011 sees the band keeping his touring commitments, with gigs through Austria and in the UK.
Todays tune "Angel Saviour in the Cannibal House" is taken from the latest release "Oscuropasso" (2014, World in Sound).
Shot like a 70s horror film, the video is a great introduction to the atmosphere and grooves of the album. Enjoy!

New week and new month which means new reviews on WeRock. Among the texts that I read, I found much of interest, but one was sticking out, Martin Bensch lines about "Björn Strids" new project.
"The Night Flight Orchestra" started like so many others as an innocent yet serious drunken idea when Björn Strid (Soilwork) and David Andersson (Mean Streak, session Soilwork) were on the road together somewhere in North America in 2007.
Björn and David were bonding over what they considered "classic" or not, from rock n roll conspiracies to being arrested in a lobby with nothing but leather pants on. All those scenarios, fictional or real, needed a soundtrack. They also came to think that whether you're on a metal tour or not, a lot of classic rock songs say it all and can really lend you a helping hand and make you forget about everything, especially when in motion or travelling. The classic escape. The never-ending road trip. The transatlantic night flight. It may sound simple and naive but what it all comes down to is that we all need that soundtrack to feel extra special, whether you have been arrested in a lobby or not.
It didn't take long before bass player Sharlee D' Angelo (Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars) joined forces as well as keyboard player Richard Larsson (Von Benzo) and drummer Jonas Källsbäck (Mean Streak). The goal was to reclaim the 70's/early 80's sense for classic melody, the forgotten recipe to a timeless song, preferably a song mentioning a city, street name or an exhilarating alcoholic beverage. Anything that will have you spitting out the word 'classic'. From "Tarot Woman" to "Badlands", from "Rhiannon" to "Running on Empty", from "Blind Man" to "Night Moves", from "Deuce" to "Separate Ways", from "Elected" to "Set me Free". The list goes on. It's all about reclaiming the "classic".
Björn has a great voice, and here he really blossom, no growl, just a voice that is incredibly powerful. The band creates a great back to basics rock that take the curves very nice with a heavy swing. I like this and hope that this comes on Vinyl soon.
Todays tune "Transatlantic Blues" is taken from the debut album "Internal Affairs"

The Woman Of Metal came to Sweden, Stockholm, Tyrol.... Angela Gossov, she brought with her The Band, Arch Enemy Im in heaven!!!
This band originnaly come from Halmstad in Sweden formed in 1996, Its members were in bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, and Eucharist to name a few. The guys who gave the band its birth was Carcass guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the influential death metal band Carnage.
The gig was very dynamic and they gave it all, the guys were playing like never b4 and Angela was singing like a Belsebub God :D
They released their 8th album in May this year, its called, "Khaos Legions". The drummer Daniel Erlandsson said about the album: "We had a very inspiring and creative time writing this album. I think this is definitely evident when listening to the new songs. There's tons of variation in the material, ranging all the way from very melodic to extremely heavy. As you can expect there's no shortage of killer riffs and intricate guitar work; the Amott brothers [Michael and Chris] have come up with some very cool yet demanding ideas! This album has some of the fastest songs I've ever recorded, along with a bunch of heavy pounding mid-tempo songs. As always, it's difficult to describe music in words, but rest assured — this album will be one heavy fucker!"
