The Damned - Anything

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Anything" is a single by the English rock band THE DAMNED, released 6 November 1986 on MCA. Previewing the group's new album of the same name, the song saw a slight move away from the Goth rock of Phantasmagoria, to a more mainstream rock sound. The single received lukewarm reviews, and considering the success of the previous album and "Eloise", its UK Singles Chart peak of No. 32 was seen as a disappointment.

THE DAMNED formed in London in 1976 by lead vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist (and later guitarist) Captain Sensible, and drummer Rat Scabies. They were the first punk rock band from the United Kingdom to release a single, "New Rose" (1976), release an album, "Damned Damned Damned" (1977), and tour the United States. They have nine singles that charted on the UK Singles Chart Top 40.

As one of the first gothic rock bands, THE DAMNED were a major influence on the goth subculture with lead singer Vanian's vampire-themed costume, baritone singing voice and dark lyrics being major influences.

Enjoy today's tune "Anything", the lead track from the seventh studio album "Anything".
