This weeks Record of the Week is the second full-length studio album The Thousandfold Epicentre by Dutch occult-themed psychedelic rock band The Devil's Blood.
The band formed in Eindhoven, Netherlands 2006 by lead guitarist, lyricist and principle songwriter Selim "SL" Lemouchi. SL's sister, Farida Lemouchi "F. The Mouth of Satan", was asked to join the group after providing vocals for the track “The Graveyard Shuffle”. Their style is rock n' roll flavoured hard rock in the vein of Roky Erickson, Black Widow, Coven, Black Sabbath and a rich plethora of 1960s and 70s undergound psychedelic rock. The group's name is taken after the song "Devil's Blood" by Watain.
Group founder and guitarist SL is heavily influenced by his spiritual beliefs, namely Satanism. In several interviews SL has stated his primary influence in songwriting (and in life) are "the three principalities of Adversity - The Death, The Chaos, and The Satan", stating "That (Satan) is the driving force behind all my creative power". SL has also cited Slash of Guns N' Roses as being influential in his work as a guitarist.
This weeks album was composed over a period of eleven months from January 2010 to November 2010 before it was recorded over a period of two months at Void Studios with longtime producer, engineer, and mixer Pieter Kloos. Several songs were ultimately shortened by a few minutes so that the album length would not exceed the length of a CD. The album is psychedelic visions of spinning flowers and gives you a nice occult journey thru your mind and drifts away on this musical acid trip. All this well wrapped in 1960s - 70s style of undergound rock.
The album was released in Europe on November 11, 2011 through VÁN Records. The album has been released by both labels in CD, LP, and digital download formats. A limited edition version of the album, which includes a 36 page art book, has also been made available through VÁN Records.
