The Used - Take It Away

American rock band THE USED is out on a 15 year anniversary tour, where they are playing two nights and two albums in each city, Night 1 - Self Titled album, Night 2 - In Love And Death. Yesterday was I able to take part in "Night 2", an energetic show from a joyful band. Together on tour they had THE NEW REGIME.

THE USED from Orem, Utah, formed in 2001. The group consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Justin Shekoski (who replaced founding guitarist Quinn Allman in 2015), bassist Jeph Howard, and drummer Dan Whitesides (who replaced founding drummer Branden Steineckert in 2006).

The group signed to Reprise Records and rose to fame in June 2002 after releasing their self-titled debut album. They followed up with their second album, In Love and Death, in September 2004 and their third album, Lies for the Liars, in May 2007. Shallow Believer, an EP that featured most of the band's B-sides, was released in February 2008. They spent 2008 working on their fourth studio album, Artwork, which was released in August 2009. A fifth album, titled Vulnerable, was released in March 2012 through the independent label Hopeless Records. In summer 2013 they released another EP titled The Ocean of the Sky. Their sixth album, Imaginary Enemy, released in April 2014.

Night 2 had the second studio album "In Love and Death" in focus. It was released on September 28, 2004 and was later certified gold in the United States, indicating over 500,000 copies shipped. It is their most commercially successful album to date. The title and music reference a number of tragic events that surrounded vocalist Bert McCracken during the album's production, notably the death of his pregnant girlfriend. In Love and Death is the final studio album to feature drummer Branden Steineckert.

The cover art is made by Alex Pardee

Today's tune "Take It Away" is the first single taken from THE USEDs second studio album In Love and Death.

"Take it Away" is one of the heaviest tracks from THE USED.

Bombus - Repeat Until Death

Monday, a new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Repeat Until Death" is the latest release from Scandinavian heavy metal band BOMBUS.

A band that continues to impress with every release and once again they have developed and have little bit of a different approach than the band’s previous album "The Poet and The Parrot". It's harder and more catchy than before, right straggly but well conceived, incredibly well written album that still sounds BOMBUS. I take my hat off and say congratulations! Damn this is good, you've really shown what you can do and I am impressed, well done guys.

The album opens up with a real killer "Eyes on the Price" where the guys doesn't waste any time before you hear the engine on the mean machine screams when they step on the gas. The album continues to impress with the second tune "Rust" where the heavy slows down a inch and grabs you in the heart with the brilliant melodies and choruses so you can't sit still any longer, you have to sing along. And hey, it doesn't end here, the 3:rd tune "Deadweight" and the 4:th "Horde of Flies" have the same approach. It's until the 5:th tune "I Call You Over (Hairy Teeth, Pt II)" when the BOMBUS machine hits the break and really slows down. A tune that partly stands out from the typical BOMBUS sound. It's not bad at all, it's different and I like it :) it have a really catchy vocal harmony. The album kicks off again with the title track of the album. Hard hitting drums, heavy guitar riffs that keeps it shaking it down. "Shake Them for What They’re Worth" is a progressive stomper with that wonderfully BOMBUS mess. "You the Man" is a heavy piece with a rockish MASTODON feeling. The album ends with "Get Your Cuts", a grandiose rhythmic piece, where the sound is dark, pompous like MUSE.

Summary:

An album that only have a playing time little over 30 minutes is an album that should be played on Repeat, Until Death!

Today's tune "Deadweight" is taken from the album "Repeat Until Death".

Diamond Head - Am I Evil

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Am I Evil?" is a song by British heavy metal band DIAMOND HEAD released on their 1980 debut album "Lightning to the Nations". The song was written by vocalist Sean Harris and guitarist Brian Tatler and released on Happy Face Records, the band's own label. The song was immediately popular among the metal circles in the United Kingdom around the time of its release, but only rose to international prominence after METALLICA covered as a B-side on their "Creeping Death" single in 1984; the cover was re-released on their 1998 covers album Garage Inc. The song was influenced by the BLACK SABBATH song "Symptom of the Universe."

The song was originally released on DIAMOND HEADs "Lightning to the Nations", but then also re-recorded for their second album Borrowed Time. It remains a live favorite and is still included in the band's setlist to this day. However, Sean Harris has gotten fed up with continually playing "Am I Evil?", one of the reasons he took the stage dressed as the Grim Reaper during their performance at the National Bowl.

The song has roots with Gustav Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War" (from The Planets Suite)

DIAMOND HEAD are an English heavy metal band formed in 1976 in Stourbridge, England. The band is recognised as one of the leading members of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and is acknowledged by thrash metal bands such as METALLICA and MEGADETH as an important early influence.

Today's Sunday classic "Am I Evil" with DIAMOND HEAD, enjoy!

The Resistance - For The Venom

Tougher. Harder. Stronger. Following the release of the EP "Torture Tactics" in early 2015 the Swedish death metal band THE RESISTANCE returns with their long awaited new album.

“Coup De Grace” reconnects with the one and only, original extreme hard-core and slams it straight down your throat and into the present age. The ferocious and relentless pureness makes it a masterpiece, as the overwhelming aggression encloses and doesn't let you go.

THE RESISTANCEs greatly line-up is as powerful as their music: The five Swedish musicians are already heroes in Scandinavian extreme metal.

Joining singer Marco Aro (also in THE HAUNTED) in THE RESISTANCE's current lineup are IN FLAMES founding member Jesper Strömblad on guitar, Daniel Antonsson (SOILWORK, DARK TRANQUILLITY) on guitar, Chris Barkensjö (KAAMOS, GRAVE) on drums, and the band's latest addition, Rob Hakemo (M.A.N.) on bass.

Today's tune "For The Venom" is taken from “Coup De Grace”, enjoy!
