Avenged Sevenfold emerged with a metalcore sound on their debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, which included primarily screamed vocals. The band changed their style on their third album and first major label release, City of Evil, which features more melodic vocals and power ballads. The band continued to explore new sounds with their self titled release and enjoyed continued mainstream success before their drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan, died of heart disease and combined effect of drugs and alcohol in his body in 2009. Despite his death, the band continued on with help of then Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and released their fifth album Nightmare in 2010 which debuted on the top spot of the Billboard 200, a first for the band.
Avenged Sevenfold visited Stockholm and a sold-out Arenan yesterday. The band as the day before the visit to Malmö, was still tagged to a thousand. The evening begins with an intro "The Sounds of Silence" signed by Simon and Garfunkel. With a huge cheers climb these dudes up on stage and tear off their hit Nightmare, which currently is being torn to shreds completely at Bandit Radio:) Their scene and the light is basically the same as Stone Sour used the last Thursday in addition to some extra "Moving Lights "Stage building was filled out by some towers and real gates, as a cemetery, right pompous. Fire is a classic ingridiens amongst metal bands and there was also a favorite for this evening, it burned like never before so it was really hot inside the arena. The light that was hanging in the thruss was leased and its staff jumped right fresh each time the flames took over, largely because they were afraid that their equipment would be flambé.
Avenged Sevenfold is a band that I have not had time to acquaint myself with so much, saw them a few years ago when they were committed to open up the Stadion, do not really remember who the main act was, it felt like they were abit anonymous at that time, but now it was a different story , they took the stage and completely looked/felt satisfied by it fully. It is really fun is that they have a drummer who is a bit too good for the band, but he really brings the songs and create a real swing that is totally unprecedented. So I have to say I was pretty happy with the evening.
Here are some pictures from the evening from slightly different positions.
Todays tune "Welcome to the Family" is the second single for their fifth studio album, Nightmare. Enjoy!

The band sports a logo known as the "Deathbat". It was originally designed by an artistic high school friend of Avenged Sevenfold, Micah Montague, as seen on the band's first DVD, All Excess. The Deathbat has appeared on all of the band's album covers, many of which were done by Cameron Rackam, a close friend of the band. The Deathbat has developed from just being a skull with bat wings, to sometimes appear as a full "man size" skeleton with bat wings, as it can be seen at the cover of albums City of Evil and Nightmare and on singles "Dear God" and "Scream". On Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, there are pictures of two people (in which appear to be Cain and Abel), another angel-like human and a semi-opaque Deathbat below it, several Deathbats appear on the back cover of the album as well. The Deathbat also appears on covers of number of singles such as "Bat Country", "Warmness on the Soul" and "Critical Acclaim".
