The band began recording their seventh studio album on August, 2010 and did completed the recording on January 3, 2011. They have teased their fans by posting photo updates of the album's progress on Facebook and Twitter. Butch Vig(He did produced the Nevermind album with Nirvana and lately been working with Green Day, Muse and Garbage) will be producing the album, after having produced the two new tracks from the band's compilation album. The album was recorded on analog tape, rather than digitally. The album is expected to arrive in late spring/early summer 2011.

Found some great photos from the process that i want to share.

According to Grohl, it will be the 'heaviest' Foo Fighters album yet. Some other interesting things are that the band has recruited Grohl's former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic to play accordion and bass on one track. Pat Smear also have rejoined the band as a full member, playing on all tracks on the new album.

In December 2010, Foo Fighters played a secret show in Los Angeles, marking their first live performance since the end of their hiatus. As an encore, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear, and Dave Grohl performed together for the first time since their days in Nirvana. They performed the song "Marigold" (a Nirvana b-side written solely by Grohl), with Novoselic on bass, Smear on guitar, and Dave on drums.

On January 17, 2011, the band released a 30 second "teaser" from the new album online. Check it out here! It's Heavy!

Todays tune "My Hero" is the third single from the Foo Fighters' second album The Colour and the Shape. It was released as a single in 1998. According to Dave Grohl, the song is dedicated to ordinary, everyday heroes, as he himself never had musical or sports heroes growing up as a child. He explained that the song was written while watching 1980s movies like Valley Girl. Grohl also stated that the song was written about Pete Stahl and Chip Donaldson, without even knowing it.

This is a call to all aspiring filmmakers.

Foo Fighters want YOU to direct their next music video.

Foo Fighters have worked with some of the top directors in the business including Michel Gondry, Mark Pellington, Jesse Peretz, Sam Brown & The Malloys. But now it’s your turn. The band is giving 11 aspiring directors the opportunity to create a music video for a song from their new album which drops this spring. The videos will premiere on Fuse.
