Van Halen - Runnin' With The Devil
Sunday, time for a classic!
Father's day an all, so let's kick of with a real one!
"Runnin' with the Devil" is the second single from VAN HALENs 1978 eponymous debut album. The song lyrics were inspired by the Ohio Players song "Runnin' from the Devil". In 2009 it was named the 9th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.
The song's lyrics have often been misinterpreted as being satanic, yet the members have never revealed the full meaning of the song. It is usually interpreted as being about the life of a touring young band. The song's verses deal with an individual's experience, including learning that a "simple" lifestyle is not as simple as it appears. The lyrics "Runnin' with the devil" are usually interpreted as being a reference to freedom. In the song freedom is portrayed as a lack of social ties and living in the present. The song's meaning has also been interpreted as being an attempt to convince a person that the theme of a simple life is not wrong as it appears. Therefore, the lyrics of "Runnin' with the devil" would not be serious.
The song begins with a collection of car horns sounding. The horns were taken from the band’s own cars and mounted in a box and powered by two car batteries, with a foot switch. Producer Ted Templemans slowed the horns down before adding them to the track. This same idea was first used during the band’s club sets and appeared on the Gene Simmons-recorded demo of the song, as well as the song "House of Pain" which preceded it on the demo. A four-measure guitar solo is played after the second and third chorus.
VAN HALEN included this song on a demo Gene Simmons (KISS) produced for them in 1977. After seeing them in concert, Simmons flew the band to New York, bought them clothes, and set up a recording session. They didn't get a record deal out of it, but gained valuable experience.

Johnossi - Air Is Free
After three and a half years since the last album release with the rock duo JOHNOSSI, now they are back, stronger than ever. The new single "Air Is Free" released a few days ago and in March the band goes on tour. For over a decade, JOHNOSSI attracted fans to lose themselfs in their musical universe. A band that refuses to stand still. The new bombastic single "Air Is Free" still have the base of the guitar and drums but expands their sound including wind instrument, female choir and a modern production. The friends of the Swedish producer team Asthma & Rocwell (also in the band NONONO) JOHNOSSIs shared vision and sat in the chair as the producer. Fully aware that they have never produced a rock band they were determined to keep the band's musical core, but dress it in a new modern sound suit.
Today's tune "Air Is Free" thunders with the sound in the venue size and the first sample and the start of what is to come later in the fall. JOHNOSSI released an EP on 8 November "Air Is Free" as the title track. The band's fifth album will be released in the beginning of 2017.

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
Leonard Cohen, the hugely influential singer and songwriter whose work spanned nearly 50 years, died Monday at the age of 82. Cohen's label, Sony Music Canada, confirmed his death on the singer's Facebook page Thursday evening.
"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the statement read. "We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief." A cause of death and exact date of death was not given.
After an epic tour, the singer fell into poor health. But he dug deep and came up with a powerful new album.
"My father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records," Cohen's son Adam wrote in a statement to Rolling Stone. "He was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor."
"You Want It Darker" is the fourteenth and final studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, released on 21 October 2016, by Columbia Records. Cohen died three weeks after its commercial release, on 7 November 2016.
Leonard Norman Cohen, CC GOQ (21 September 1934 – 7 November 2016) was a Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. Cohen was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour. In 2011, Cohen received one of the Prince of Asturias Awards for literature and the ninth Glenn Gould Prize.
I had the opportunity to work with Leonard and I must say he was a truly gentleman, very humble and nice.
Today's tune is the title track of the latest album "You Want It Darker", Rest In Piece and say hello to David Bowie and Lemmy.

Dopethrone - Shot Down
From Montréal, Quebéc’s comes the heaviest and muddiest trio DOPETHRONE, a band that was born in 2008 in Hochelaga, Montreal’s trashiest Ghetto.
They encompass the bleakness of black metal, the steadfastness of New Orleans-style sludge, scum fuck blues and a heavier-than-thou doom mentality. The riffs are thick, muddy, punishing, suffocating and destructive but still clean as a horse arse. The Demonic vocals are harsh, visceral and animal-like. And the mood is heavy and oppresive.
This trio have crafted another muddy EP with 3 violent tracks that will frighten any living being on this filthy earth. Traumatized demonically driven melody that almost make you hospitalized, I feel I need a respirator after one lap of this EP.
"1312" was Recorded and mixed by Jean-Baptiste Joubaud, At Studio Le Magnétophone in Montréal & Produced by JB Joubaud and DOPETHRONE. At this moment there is only digital files available at their bandcamp. Hopefully a Vinyl release will be made.
Shhh
Don't make a sound
Your life's gone to shit
You've been - shot down
The fear in your eyes
You're cemetery bound
Give up or die
You've been - shot down
Today's tune "Shot Down" taken from the bands latest EP "1312", released August 29, 2016. A lyric video rolled and lit up by Clément Collot @ Aaargh Productions. Footage by DOPETHRONE & crew
