Jex Thoth - Blood Moon Rise

Number 4 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2013 is a fabulous dark, almost frightening record. Jex voice is very close, very intimate filled with emotional nuances complemented by the eerie psychedelic atmosphere.

A significant droning influence sprinkled with doses of psychedelia and heedy occult undertones is the ground of Jex Thoth music and it really hits me like a canon ball in solar plexus. "Blood Moon Rise" is a absolute stunner, a superb achievement of true artistic ambition that is beyond the scope of what most other bands could even dream of.

Todays tune "Ehjä" taken from thier 2:nd full length album "Blood Moon Rise"

Saturnalia Temple - Black Magic Metal

Saturnalia Temple, one of the support acts for Jex Thoth the other day, a band that was born out of the occult musical vein. Inspired by the diabolic inner experiences, full of energetic psychedelic trips in the cold northern climate.

Musically deep down in the late sixties / early seventies, a sort of Black Magic Rock, Heavy Metal, Psychedelia built on deep drone, doom riffing. The gig was a real experience, stepping into their temple and carried away in their drawling doom riffs. After about a half hour had passed, it felt like five minutes, and it was time for them to step down, I realized that I need more of this and went to their merch and bought the record, on the spot (on Vinyl of course), it has spun a few turns now :)

Saturnalia Temple - EP - 2009

Jex Thoth - Separated At Birth

Jessica "Jex" Thoth is an American vocalist. She is well-known for being the singer of Jex Thoth and the psychedelic rock band Sabbath Assembly.

Earlier this week, organized club Pussy a Go Go, a concert with Jex Thoth + Saturnalia Temple + Anguish. Pussy a Go Go has certainly managed to bring in lots of great bands, so a great tribute to the girls behind the club. Together with Fritz Corner do they entertains Stockholm awesome bands all year. My two completely clear favourites in the music scene right now here in Stockholm. I follow the club releases of up coming shows with an Iron fist ... hehe

Jex Thoth is one of those bands who impressed most on me in recent years. Ever since I first heard the self-titled debut from 2008, I nearly knelt before their altars. Jex Thoth is one of the fastest growing and right now most renowned bands in their genre. Nearly a year ago, they was over and redeemed Stockholm with their music.

The show at Debaser was simply magic live, psychedelic heavy rock with bewitching vocals, light candles and incense to achieve the perfect feeling. You could watch Jessica's trance-like dance, which spread like a disease on the audience. She has a voice with virtually unmatched awe-depth, charisma and a maximum teeming set of vocal chords. What atmosphere it was. There I was, swaying with the music, almost that fell into a trance, enjoying to the full so that I almost forgot to take pictures.

After the show, I just had to go up to the band and thank them for a great evening. And it was not just me who thought the same thing, even Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) arrived quickly and praised for Jex Thoth a great show, when Jessica realized it was the Messiah, then came the tears, it may have been the case that Candlemass belonged to one of the influences of Jex Thoth.

Today, Pussy a Go Go presents Obnoxious Youth + Danava @ Debaser Slussen

Jex Thoth - Nothing Left To Die

From one moment to the next, and I stepped out of the car in the north, 110 miles of driving in 11 hours, by no means as bad time wise but a hard work to complete, but it was worth it.

Yesterday played Dan Reed at Gröna Lund and the plan was to make a visit there and take some photos During his show, but with the tight schedule so it was to pack the bags, fill up the car and just like that were we of E4'n north.

Had also highlighted in the calendar to make a visit to the Lilla Hotellbaren to see Jex Thoth playing live tonight, but that did not happen this time.

But there was a sauna instead, a cold beer and a planned football tonight if one had managed to get the antenna to function so i could get up the channel, but It was impossible so I gave up. It was probably just as well considering how it ended.

So todays tune is ”Nothing Left To Die” with Jex Thoth as they will turn the place upside down tonight.

Jex Thoth - When The Raven Calls

A tormented psyched out spellbounding trip unleashed by this awesome California band Jex Thoth.

Named after the band’s striking female vocalist, Jex Thoth take their cues from the metallic strains of Black Sabbath and the retro experimentalism of Amon Düül II. Jex Thoth (formerly Jessica Toth) and bassist James Jackson Toth (leader of the experimental outfit Wooden Wand, and credited here as Grim Jim) form the core of the group, which originally took shape under the name Totem. After issuing an EP with that moniker, the group rechristened itself Jex Thoth and set to work on a full-length album, with guitarist Silas Paine and drummer Johnny Dee joining the lineup during the process. Keyboardist Zodiac completed the lineup, and Jex Thoth debuted in 2008 with a self-titled album of thudding, psychedelic
acid rock.

Discography

2007: Split with Pagan Altar (EP)
2008: Jex Thoth (Full-length)
2009: Totem (EP / Vinyl version of the self-titled Totem MCD, under the new band name)
