Flying Colors - Bombs Away

"Second Flight: Live At The Z7”, from the virtuoso prog/pop/rock band FLYING COLORS, showcases a new level of musical prowess from the group, captures the candid energy of a new band, and lets fans experience them in innovative ways. It reflects the many hues and colors of the band members’ (Steve Morse, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue & Casey McPherson) individual— and collective—unique creative expression. It’s FLYING COLORS at their very best, and a new milestone in the band’s soaring adventure.

In 2014, on the 8th show of their fall tour, FLYING COLORS took to the stage at Switzerland’s storied Z7 venue, and on film, captured a breathtaking live performance. With their critically acclaimed sophomore album Second Nature out for only a week, the concert recorded an exceptional rarity: band and audience, together, discovering an album for the first time.

FLYING COLORS also explored technological innovation with the album, with unique ways for fans to experience it. Viewers can listen in 5.1-surround from the two best seats in the house: at the soundboard, or in the front row. All the show’s audio was processed with a new engineering system, developed specifically for live at the Z7, which creates stunning detail and separation.

The vinyl release comes with a code for a complimentary MP3 download of the album. (The first 1,000 orders get a signed insert! [http://smarturl.it/FlyingColorsMLG]) "Second Flight: Live At The Z7” will be released worldwide on November 13, 2015.

"Bombs Away: I love the guitar work in this one. Steve really nails it. This also has a really cool proggy string melody section that I can never get out of my head...in a good way. The only other thing I have to say about this song can be summed up in one word: CHEESEWHIZ.” — Neal Morse

Flying Colors - Mask Machine

Second Nature is the second album by the American supergroup "Flying Colors", composed of Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue, Casey McPherson, Neal Morse and Steve Morse. The album is set to be released in 29 September 2014.

On August 19, Loudwire premiered the video for the album's first single "Mask Machine". Soon after, Classic Rock premiered the song for Europe.

According to drummer Mike Portnoy, the album will benefit from a bigger "chemistry" between members: “ The first album was very much a blind date. This time there was an existing chemistry – we not only had the prior experiences of making the debut album, but also the 2012 tour as well. Direction was never discussed; we just did what we do.

Todays tune "Mask Machine", is the first release taken from the upcoming album "Second Nature", enjoy!

Flying Colors - Kayla

Flying Colors is an American supergroup composed of Casey McPherson (lead vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Neal Morse (keyboards, vocals), Steve Morse (lead guitar), Dave LaRue (bass guitar) and Mike Portnoy (drums, percussion, vocals).

It started with a simple idea: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining to make new-fashioned music the old fashioned way. A band followed, evolving into Flying Colors: Mike, Dave, Neal, Casey and Steve. Together, they create a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship, contemporary music and blistering live performances.

In 2008, executive producer Bill Evans began putting the idea into action. It needed exactly the right musicians. In addition to be being extraordinary players and writers, they would need to be a natural creative fit, complementing each others’ abilities. There would be proven chemistry from past collaborations, but the new band would be different from anything they’d done. The world didn’t need another supergroup.

As with the classic albums, there also would be a strong production team who, creatively, would be an extension of the band: a visionary producer, imaginative engineer and compelling visual artist. Though they were seasoned artists with impressive backgrounds and catalogs, this would be new territory for most of them. And without a budget or a label, they came together with nothing more than a shared vision to create something special and unique.

Evans drew up a short list of four musicians and a producer: Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue, Steve Morse, Neal Morse and (producer) Peter Collins. Each artist was renowned in his domain. Drawing from rock, metal, prog, jazz-fusion, they had the potential to fuse their diverse styles into a unique, cohesive sound.

Peter Collins had helmed the intersection of virtuoso and pop music better than anyone. Collins presided over Rush’s evolution from long-form prog band to short-song rock band, producing four studio albums with them and helping drive 30 million in sales —without sacrificing their artistic integrity. His resume of more than 100 albums also included straight-forward popular acts as Bon Jovi, Jewel and Elton John.

Intrigued by the idea, and the prospect of working together, the five signed on to form a band and record a first album.

Attention then turned to finding a pop singer who could channel their combined musicality into an accessible mainstream form. Evans and Collins reviewed over 100 top contemporary singers, but no one felt exactly right. As desperation began to set in, Mike Portnoy casually mentioned, “I know a guy.” That guy turned out to be a new signing to the Hollywood/Disney label: singer/songwriter Casey McPherson.

What began as an unlikely premise had become a reality more rewarding than anyone had imagined. Refreshing, classic, old and new—Flying Colors is saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of its artists.

The group’s September 20th concert in Tilburg, Holland, was captured for what was to become Flying Colors: Live in Europe. The epic live album was released October 14, 2013 by Mascot Label Group on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, Mastered for iTunes, MP3, and as a limited edition 3-vinyl disc set.

The band is celebrating the release of Live in Europe (release 16/10-2013) with a new music video of the song that started it all! Filmed in three countries across two continents, todays tune “Kayla” captures the heart and soul of Flying Colors. The tune is taken from the self titled debut studio album, released on 26 March 2012.

Flying Colors returned to the studio on May 12, 2013 to begin writing and recording their second studio album. They are continuing work throughout the year and beyond for an expected 2014 release.

Beardfish - Voluntary Slavery

Monday! That means it's time to present this week's album! Today it's the Swedish progressive rock band "Beardfish" and their latest album "Void" that receiving the honor to take place on the Tune Of The Days Record of the Week.

But first some history, Beardfish is a Swedish progressive rock band formed in 2001. Their style resembles progressive rock bands from the 1970s, such as Yes and Genesis. The band was signed by InsideOut Music after releasing two albums independently; they have since released five more albums, so seven in total!

Beardfish is comprised of Rikard Sjoblom (vocals/guitars/keyboards), David Zackrisson (guitars), Magnus Ostgren (drums) and Robert Hansen (bass).

The band is out touring atm, the started Sept. 9 2012, Beardfish will be the support act for all European dates for the band Flying Colors.

This weeks album "Void" As previous releases a unique experience which gives the listener memorable melodies, brilliant playing, often very clever lyrics. Since 2006, the band has released seven albums, more than one each year, pretty good in my eyes! And every album is very good in their own way. The Void is just another excellent album in the band’s ever-expanding catalogue.

I will not be particularly deep about this album, but will leave you to dig down in it. It's is released on Spotify, to hook it up and listen. The Void demands attention. Each song differs from the last, offering focal points of an endless variety to keep you interested throughout. The Void is born in to a line of great albums with fantastic reputations, and fails to break tradition. Beardfish push the boundaries of progressive rock delivering their most hard-edged and ominous record to date. Seven albums deep and keeping the musical dialogue going strong!

Studio albums:

Från En Plats Du Ej Kan Se (2003)
The Sane Day (2006)
Sleeping in Traffic: Part One (2007)
Sleeping in Traffic: Part Two (2008)
Destined Solitaire (2009)
Mammoth (2011)
The Void (2012)

Todays tune "Voluntary Slavery" taken from The Void, kicks off with heavy metal guitar playing, thumping bass lines, wailing drum fills and enticing vocal harmonies. Enjoy!
