Bruce Springsteen - The River

Sunday, time for a classic. Today there will be a bit special classic, considering that "The Boss" has visited Stockholm three times in a little over a week's time. He filled Friends Arena every night which is quite incredible that a man like this is so popular among Swedes.

The Bruce travels with the same stage setup as he have used during the previous years, shows how well oiled machine this production is, it all builds up smoothly by the same crew who rode with Bruce the last 10-15 years, I meet some familiar technicians that are very, i mean very friendly and always shares some wonderful stories.

Now I've seen Bruce on three occasions in almost a week, fun considering how flexible the guy is and how he will satisfy his fans by playing what they want to hear. It is enough that the guy sees a sign that has the text of a song and he goes on and plays it ... imagine what a tight band that knows the whole Bruce repertoire, that's the E Streetband.

Another cool thing was that he even chose a record from his long musical career and plays it from beginning to end, at first it was "Born to Run" that was played on Friday, then he dusted of "Darkness on the Edge of Town" on Saturday and last gig did he play "Born In The U.S.A" from beginning to end.

I wished that The River was played at the conclusion of Bruce Sweden visit, but you can not have everything, so there of we choose it as today's tune instead. So todays tune "The River" is a song written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen, accompanied by the E Street Band. It was the title track of his fifth album, The River, and was a hit single in parts of Europe. Its B-side was either "Independence Day" or "Ramrod," depending on the country.

"The River" was originally intended to be included on an earlier, one-record version of The River, tentatively called The Ties That Bind. The song itself was recorded at The Power Station in New York in July or August 1979. In the very first live performance of the song in 1979, Springsteen cited the inspiration as "my brother in law and my sister". In fact, the newly released biography "Bruce" by Peter Ames Carlin includes an interview with Bruce's sister Ginny in which she plainly states that the song is a precise description of her early life with her husband Mickey, to whom she is still married today.

"The River" became a centerpiece of shows on some Springsteen tours. On the Born in the U.S.A. Tour, it was often preceded by a long, intense story from Springsteen about his battles with his father growing up, that would sometimes conclude positively and sometimes not; the silence after the story would then be interrupted by the start of the harmonica part. One such story and performance, that also touched on the Vietnam War, was included on the 1986 Live/1975–85 set.

On later tours, especially in Europe, the song's outro was extended to great length, with audiences mass singing the wordless "oooh" parts at the end. On the 1999–2000 Reunion Tour, "The River" was cast in a different arrangement that featured a Clarence Clemons saxophone part; one such rendition was included on the subsequent Live in New York City album and DVD.

The song has been performed about 582 times through 2013.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Wrecking Ball

This concert was the most fantastic concert I ever been to... and im not even a Bruce fan.
But I can tell you I am now :D As i was working as a security I couldnt take any picture but I have found some that I will borrow photos from :D

I took one photo, when they started to let people in, it was pooring down ... Look!

Then all of a sudden it stoped and under the whole concert was crystal clear :D

Bruce and his E Street Band playd for 2 days with full house, Ullevi and Gothenburg was cooking with Goosebums and happyness.. anyone who was there know exactly what im talking about.

When he playd a very soft calm and emotional tune all of the arena just lights up, its was sooo beuatyful, I picked this photo from the net to show u.

Bruce was talking about to make a record in hrs playd on one gig, and he nearly maked it :D He just went on and on and on...with wonderful music!

Some musicians when they continue years after years their albums seems to get not that good, but this is NOT the case with Bruce.
Darn good album this last one, Wrecking Ball. Im gonna play a tune from it for u, the tune with the very same name as the album.

Bruce Springsteen - Spirit in the Night

Clarence Anicholas Clemons, Jr. (January 11, 1942 – June 18, 2011), also known as The Big Man, was an American musician and actor. From 1972 until his death, he was a prominent member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, playing the saxophone. He released several solo albums and in 1985 had a hit single with "You're a Friend of Mine", a duet with Jackson Browne. As a guest musician he also featured on Aretha Franklin's classic "Freeway of Love" and on Twisted Sister's "Be Chrool to Your Scuel" as well as performing in concert with The Grateful Dead and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. As an actor Clemons featured in several films, including New York, New York and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. He also made cameo appearances in several TV series, including Diff'rent Strokes, Nash Bridges, The Simpsons and The Wire. Together with his television writer friend Don Reo he published his autobiography, Big Man: Real Life & Tall Tales, in 2009.

Clemons suffered a stroke on June 12, 2011. He underwent two surgeries after which he was in serious, but stable condition. However, Clemons died from complications caused by the stroke on June 18.

Bruce Springsteen said of Clarence Clemons: "Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.” Clemons was not the first member of The E Street Band to die; in 2008 Danny Federici succumbed to melanoma.

In July 1972, Springsteen began recording his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and during breaks from recording, he jammed with Clemons and The Joyful Noyze on at least two occasions at The Shipbottom Lounge in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. When Springsteen then decided to use a tenor saxophone on the songs "Blinded By The Light" and "Spirit In The Night" it was Clemons he called. By October Springsteen was ready to tour and promote Greetings… and he put together a band featuring Clemons, Tallent, Danny Federici and Vini Lopez. Clemons played his last gig with Norman Seldin & The Joyful Noyze at the Club Plaza in Bayville, New Jersey on October 21, 1972. Four days later Clemons made his debut with the formative E Street Band at an unadvertised, impromptu performance at The Shipbottom Lounge.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Clemons featured prominently on Springsteen albums. On Born to Run he provided memorable saxophone solos on the title track, "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland" while Darkness on the Edge of Town featured another notable solo on "Badlands". The River saw Clemons feature on songs such as "The Ties That Bind", "Sherry Darling", "I Wanna Marry You" and "Independence Day" while Born in the U.S.A. saw solos on "Bobby Jean" and "I'm Goin' Down”.

At the end of shows, while recognizing members of the E Street Band, Springsteen referred to Clemons as "The Biggest Man You Ever Seen". He sometimes changed this depending on where the E Street Band performs — at their 2009 concert in Glasgow he introduced Clemons as "the biggest Scotsman you've ever seen”.

Todays tune "Spirit in the Night” is a song written and originally recorded by New Jersey based singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen for his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973). It was also the second single released from the album.
