Whitesnake - Mistreated

The story of David Coverdale, the lead singer and founder of WHITESNAKE - is an interesting one in rock and roll terms, if for no other reason that he has an admirable track record of having the courage of his convictions. After he had shot to fame in 1974 as the lead singer of hard rock legends of DEEP PURPLE, things didn’t pan out quite as he would have hoped, with 1975 record "Come Taste the Band" failing to match up to expectations. He resigned as the band dissolved, and after releasing one solo album, WHITESNAKE, in 1977, knew that he needed to be in a band if he was to truly flourish. WHITESNAKE was born, and they’re still going strong today.

The Sound the band had was very similar to DEEP PURPLE, bluesy and rockish. Since reforming in 2002 and two albums "Good to Be Bad" and "Forevermore" plus the latest "The Purple Album" with DEEP PURPLE tunes in a WHITESNAKE package they are touring around the world with DEF LEPPARD and last year with JOURNEY and THUNDER. Today (Friday the 13th) they are standing on the stage here in Stockholm for a show at hovet.

Today's tune "Mistreated" is take from the latest album "The Purple Album" and it's performed at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, FL on August 3, 2015. Recorded with a Nikon P7000. "Mistreated" is originally taken from DEEP PURPLEs 1974 album "Burn". The song was written by the band's guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and new vocalist David Coverdale, who, along with new bassist Glenn Hughes, brought new blues and funk elements to the band.

Whitesnake - Soldier of Fortune

Rock icons WHITESNAKE realising their 12th studio album "The Purple Album" today May 15th and in North America on Tuesday May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. "The Purple Album" is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for DEEP PURPLEs Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums.

WHITESNAKE was formed in England in 1978 by Coverdale. The band has released multi-platinum selling albums throughout the years and have been known for hits such as “Slide It In,” “Here I Go Again,” “Still Of The Night” and “Is This Love.”  

WHITESNAKE will hit the road this summer on a headlining world tour, see the dates below!

Todays tune "Soldier of Fortune" is latest single taken from WHITESNAKEs latest album "The Purple Album" The tune is a blues rock ballad written by David Coverdale and Ritchie Blackmore and originally released on DEEP PURPLEs 1974 album "Stormbringer". As of 30 May 2014, "Soldier of Fortune" is DEEP PURPLEs 7th most "listened" song with over 15,000 hits on Last.fm and has been included in many rock ballad compilation albums. Though DEEP PURPLE has never released the song as a single and it has never placed on the record charts, it has developed a cult following over the years, and cover versions have been released by WHITESNAKE, OPETH, BLACK MAJESTY and the Romanian band IRIS.

The OPETH cover was included as a bonus track in the Special Edition release of Ghost Reveries (2006) and was subsequently released as a single in March 2007, which is available from iTunes. Roadrunner Records lists OPETHs version among their 13 wildest covers, calling it a faithful cover while adding Mikael Åkerfeldt's "unexpectedly soulful vocals."

Whitesnake - Stormbringer

Rock icons WHITESNAKE are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. "The Purple Album" will be released in Europe on May 15th and in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. "The Purple Album" is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for DEEP PURPLEs Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order in various configurations on Amazon: a standard edition (here), a deluxe edition (here) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album and in a double LP vinyl format. Plans are also underway for a special limited box set edition with memorabilia and merchandise. All details will be announced soon.

David Coverdale comments the upcoming record:

“It’s a tribute. A homage. It’s a huge thank you from me to DEEP PURPLE for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago,” states Coverdale. “As I said to Ritchie, you guys set me on an incredible journey that continues today and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The University of DEEP PURPLE was an extraordinary, amazing school to learn from. We can’t wait to play these songs in concert!”
