St. Vincent – Sad But True

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Sad but True" is a song by American heavy metal band METALLICA. It was released in February 1993 as the fifth and final single from their eponymous fifth "Black Album". The music video for the single was released in October 1992.

"The Metallica Blacklist" celebrates the 30th anniversary and enduring influence of the iconic "Black Album", with one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived by the METALLICA team: An unprecedented 50+ artists spanning an unbelievably vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album song. All profits from "The Metallica Blacklist" will be split evenly between the All Within My Hands Foundation and 50+ charities chosen by the artists who play on the album. All music overseen by executive producer Giles Martin.

For a few weeks ago we had Jason Isbell who transform METALLICA’s "Sad But True" into a Breakneck Blues Jam. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s contribution to the upcoming "Blacklist" tribute album. Read and listen here!

St. Vincent is one of the many contributors to the massive covers album "The Metallica Blacklist". Ahead of the compilation’s September 10 release, she’s shared her rendition of the METALLICAMETALLICA track “Sad But True.” Give it a listen below; this one is really good, totally oposit to Jason Isbell's version.

Along with its inclusion on "The Metallica Blacklist", St. Vincent’s “Sad But True” cover is the B-side to a Record Store Day 7". On the A-side is St. Vincent’s cover of NINE INCH NAILS’ “Piggy.”

On Saturday, September 11, St. Vincent will headline Pitchfork Music Festival 2021 at Union Park in Chicago, Illinois. Check out her web site for tickets.

St. Vincent – Lithium

Thursday, time for a cover!

We continue our Pride week!

"Lithium" is a song by American rock band NIRVANA. It appears as the fifth track and third single from their second album "Nevermind" (1991). Written by frontman Kurt Cobain, the song is about a man who turns to religion amid thoughts of suicide. NIRVANA first recorded "Lithium" in 1990 but then re-recorded the song the following year for "Nevermind".

Released as the third single from "Nevermind" in July 1992, "Lithium" peaked at number 64 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. It was also a number 1 hit in Finland and a top 5 hit in Ireland and Portugal. The accompanying music video, directed by Kevin Kerslake, is a montage of concert footage.

Annie Erin Clark (born September 28, 1982), known professionally as St. Vincent, is an American musician, singer, songwriter and producer. She began her music career as a member of the Polyphonic Spree. She was also a member of Sufjan Stevens's touring band before forming her own band in 2006. Her debut album is "Marry Me" (2007), followed by "Actor" (2009), "Strange Mercy" (2011), "St. Vincent" (2014), "Masseduction" (2017) and "Daddy's Home" (2021).

When asked during a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone whether she identified as gay or straight, Clark responded:

"I don't think about those words. I believe in gender fluidity and sexual fluidity. I don't really identify as anything. I think you can fall in love with anybody. I don't have anything to hide but I'd rather the emphasis be on music."

Later that year, in an interview with the UK's Sunday Times, Clark elaborated:

"I'm not one for gender or sexual absolutism in the main; I fully support and engage in the spectrum."

Clark was in a relationship with Cara Delevingne from late 2014 until mid-2016.

Clark's father, Richard Clark, was convicted of one count of conspiracy, seven counts of wire fraud, five counts of securities fraud, and one count of money laundering on May 3, 2010. According to the Department of Justice, Clark and co-conspirator, G. David Gordon, controlled and manipulated the stock of two Tulsa companies, Deep Rock Oil & Gas Inc., and Global Beverage Solutions Inc., and Glen Ellyn, Illinois-based National Storm Management Group Inc. The Justice Department said: "According to evidence presented at trial, Gordon and Clark executed the scheme by obtaining a majority of the free-trading shares of stock they intended to manipulate, using fraudulent and deceptive means to acquire the stock and/or remove the trading restrictions on the shares they obtained." On October 29, 2010, he was sentenced to 15 years, 8 months in prison. The album "Daddy's Home" was in part inspired by her father's eventual release from prison.

Today's tune "Lithium" is with members of NIRVANA, FOO FIGHTERS and St. Vincent perform "Lithium" at the 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Expect the unexpected with St. Vincent’s latest, "Daddy’s Home". Edge, style and wit take you from uptown to downtown with a loose ‘70s-inspired sound and gritty glam feel.

"Daddy’s Home", the sixth album from St. Vincent, is the latest facet of an ever-evolving artist regarded by many as the most consistently innovative and intriguing presence in modern music. The album was produced by Annie Clark and Jack Antonoff, recorded by Laura Sisk, mixed by Cian Riordan, and mastered by Chris Gehringer. The music was performed by Annie, Jack, Cian, Thomas, Evan Smith, Sam KS, Greg Leisz, Daniel Hart, Michael Leonhard, Lynne Fiddmont and Kenya Hathaway.

"Daddy's Home collects stories of being down and out in downtown NYC. Last night's heels on the morning train. Glamour that's been up for three days straight”. -St. Vincent

Annie Clark made her recorded debut as St. Vincent in 2007 with "Marry Me", & has since become one of the most innovative & enigmatic presences in modern music.

Each of St. Vincent’s four subsequent albums has met with critical acclaim 7 commercial success eclipsing that of its predecessor. These albums would include "Actor" (2009), "Strange Mercy" (2011), & her self-titled fourth album and winner of the 2014 GRAMMY for Best Alternative Album, making her only the second female artist ever to win in that category.

In 2017, working with co-producer Jack Antonoff, St. Vincent created a defining statement with MASSEDUCTION. As ambitious as it was accessible, the album broke St. Vincent into the U.S. and UK top 10s.

Outside of recording and performing, St. Vincent has directed the short horror film The Birthday Party, released two editions of her signature Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, & co-written & starred as a fictionalized version of herself in the upcoming film The Nowhere Inn.

St. Vincent - New York

It’s hard not to be impressed by Annie Clark – or St. Vincent as she calls herself. Last year she released her fifth album, MASSEDUCTION, on which she once again exceeds all expectations. With a unique sound, an amazing voice and a quaint expression one can agree that St. Vincent is one of the most interesting artists of our time. Apart from all this, she’s also a guitar virtuoso who has been called “the first truly 21st century guitar hero” by Guitar World Magazine, an excellent songwriter and a true innovator of the pop music of today.

After breaking through with magnificent Marry Me in 2007 – and being compared to the likes of David Bowie and Kate Bush – every release by St. Vincent has meant a fascinating experience. Equally fascinating in a live environment, St. Vincent can easily be described as one of the most exciting live performers of today, always breaking boundaries and introducing new concepts. She has also recorded a collaborative album and embarked on a tour with one of her biggest fans – David Byrne of Talking Heads

St Vincent did perform in Slottsskogen on Thursday August 9.

Today's tune "New York", is taken from the fifth studio album "Masseduction" (stylized in all caps). It was released on October 13, 2017, through Loma Vista Recordings.[4] The album peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, becoming her first top ten album in the United States. The album also received universal acclaim and was the fourth-most mentioned in critic's year-end lists for 2017
