From the misty, pine-covered hills of the Pacific Northwest hail THE BRIDGE CITY SINNERS, who span the continuum from prohibition era jazz to Appalachian death folk. This traditional string band line up bends the meaning of the word genre, playing festivals from Punk Rock Bowling, to Muddy Roots, to Oregon’s Bluegrass String Summit. They started their journey by busking on sidewalks across the country and now this supergroup of musicians find themselves on the national tour circuit. The Sinners still hold true to the DIY mentality of putting albums out on a self made record label, Flail Records. With talented musicianship and a punk as f***! live show, this is one band you don’t want to miss.
THE BRIDGE CITY SINNERS did release their new album "Unholy Hymns" last summer, so what better time to give them a good grilling on their new record?! AND we got Amigo the Devil to dish out the questions, because why the Hell not!
Today's tune "Devil Like You" is taken from "Unholy Hymns", enjoy!
Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
Oregon goth-metallers UNTO OTHERS is back with the second album "Strength".
Yes I know, I'm late for the ball again, but I was waiting for Vinyl which would have been released a long time ago, but has been postponed, now at the end of February and now I can not wait any longer, haha So for today you get the album and here is my review on it.
IDLE HANDS or UNTO OTHERS as they are called today really shows thier "Strength" that they are the finest band in goth-rock today.
A band that mixes the classic heavy metal and goth rock in a excellent way, almost like CURE did distort them self up to THE SISTERS OF MERCY and added some chilli with some power to boost everything up and at least the lyrical themes that deals with life, death, fantasy, mysticism and some personal issues.
"Strength" kicks on with the furious and dark piece "Herion", were the lyrics tells a story of addiction, the music is marvelous and fantastic, the same dark theme continues "Downtown". The same theme continues throughout the album where they handle the rhythms and melody in a wonderfully way, they mixes styles and tempos to keep up the intresst and almost create a freeway for what's to come when they take the next level on the follow up album. Gabriel Franco vocals part is just brilliant in my ears, incredibly mesmerizing with his baritone voice, something that really take place on the next tune "When Will Gods Work Be Done", a powerful anthem. On "No Children Laughing Now" the sound is a bit diffrent here, still a dark piece, heavy riffing, furious doublebass drumming, which then shifts up the tempo in "Destiny", heavy riffing, heavy drumming and some softer vocal parts. The light punkish "Why" is another brilliant step to widen their views. They even manage to add a cover to the album, a fantastic version of Pat Benatar’s 1980 classic "Hell Is For Children". Some rumbling bass in the slightly more polished "Summer Lightning". The title tune really summarizing everything the album has offred during it's play time of forty-six minutes and twenty-two seconds as my digital album shows. "Strength" really have some well-written lyrics, marvlous lead guitars, excellent vocals, hard and heavy doublebass drumming and a rumbling bass lines. The album needs more of me and was not as direct as "Mana", but if you give it time, dive into what it wants to convey, you will be rewarded, I promise, you’ll love it.
Sum: "Strength" is something you need now and UNTO OTHERS will provide it to you!

The Portland, Oregon quartet RED FANG have established themselves as one of the heavy rockers more engaging acts. Since the start with amazing 2011's "Murder The Mountains" and last release with 2016's "Only Ghosts", they have with thier infectious gooves and energetic powerful riffs made a name in the riff rock scene, a band that most nowerdays knows about.
"Arrows" is the fifth full-lengt album and was recorded at Halfling Studios in the band’s hometown of Portland, OR, with longtime collaborator Chris Funk, producer of "Murder The Mountains" and 2013’s "Whales And Leeches". The album was released June 4, 2021 via Relapse Records.
"Arrows", takes a slightly different direction for the band, loose screws and half inflated tires, the wheels are more dirty and the sound is woozy and gruffy where influenses could easly be HIGH ON FIRE, MELVINS and ORANGE GOBLIN. From the opening rumble intro "Take It Back" via the stoner rocker "Unreal Estate" and the crunchy doomish title track "Arrows". Tunes like full blown punkish "My Disaster" and "Dr. Owl" are cool break outs in the album along with the sharp stomp of "Rabbits In Hives". The tune "Fonzi Scheme", a tune was named after legendary Happy Days cool guy Arthur Fonzarelli. Producer Chris Funk came up with the idea of bringing in string players from the Portland Cello Project to class up the track. A track that shines MASTODON and BARONESS. Beautiful guitars in the half paced "Days Collide", where the vocals are a little more dark and withdrawn. "Why"is a magnificent thing where the bass licks gets a lot of space. The opening riff of closer "Funeral Coach" was written 11 years ago. Of course you get thoughts back to the debut, sounds magically good.
On "Arrows" do we get a adventurous journey in the dirt pit where we get served some of the dirtiest and space mutated riffs in RED FANG catalog. And they do a marvelous job to take the next step and take experimental risks with the new material. Check it up!
Sum: A grand return of RED FANG!
Today's tune "Arrows" is the title track from the new album, enjoy!
Portland, Oregon’s UNTO OTHERS (IDLE HANDS) have announced their signing to Roadrunner Records and shared a brand-new single, "When Will Gods Work Be Done". The new music video is directed by Brock Grossl, which premiered today via Decibel Magazine alongside a Q&A with UNTO OTHERS’ vocalist / guitarist Gabriel Franco.
Commenting on the new release and news of the signing, Franco remarked “Our last full length came out over two years ago and much has changed, including the band and I, our name, etc... so I consider this a reintroduction of ‘us’ to those who connected with our music in the past, as well as a debut for the many who haven't. We did our best, and that's all we can do. So out of the frying pan, and into the fire, I think we have all been frying long enough".
UNTO OTHERS’ innovative combination of goth, rock and metal brings the genre to entirely new and unique places. They are pushing the genre beyond the expected to create a blend of heavy, dark, melodic songs combined with traditional metal.
Comprised of Gabriel Franco (Vocals / Guitar), Brandon Hill (Bass), Sebastian Silva (Guitar), and Colin Vranizan (Drums), UNTO OTHERS formed in Portland, OR in 2017 and quickly made waves out of the Pacific Northwest under their previous band name IDLE HANDS. Following 2018’s "Don’t Waste Your Time" EP, they released their debut full-length album "Mana" in 2019 to widespread acclaim. Citing their harmonious marriage of goth rock and traditional heavy metal.
Stereogum named UNTO OTHERS one of the “40 Best New Bands of 2019” noting, “In an alternate reality where the ‘80s dalliance with both genres took hold into future decades, nearly every song on the band’s debut would be a hit.”
Next up, UNTO OTHERS will join BEHEMOTH!, ARCH ENEMY and CARCASS for a massive European fall tour, kicking off September 28th in Dublin, Ireland and running for six weeks through November 7 at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway.

ROSE CITY BAND started purely as a recording project, with Ripley Johnson’s role mostly obscured for the self-titled debut album. Ripley Johnson most known as bandleader of WOODEN SHJIPS and one half of MOON DUO.
With ROSE CITY BAND, Johnson’s songwriting and beautiful guitar lines take center stage, the veil of psychedelia notably drawn back. The vocal would be recognizable to any WOODEN SHJIPS fan. Shimmering guitar lines are free to shine, buoyed by driving rhythms. New to the mix are arrangements and instruments drawn directly from classic country, resulting in songs with more than a hint of twang.
The latest release is named "Summerlong", born of Johnson’s own fondness for the season, delivers an emotional lift—an expression akin to the joy of getting out there on a warm day, be it gathering for a BBQ, hopping onto a bike, leaping into a swimming hole, or simply reading in a park.
"Summerlong" was released with no promotion in the style of private press records, it was a liberating act, a focus on music without any expectations. Explaining it with a chuckle, Johnson elaborates, “I always would threaten to my friends that I’m gonna start a country rock band so I can retire and just play down at the pub every Thursday night during happy hour. I love being able to tour and travel, but I also like the idea of having a local band … more of a social music experience.”
"Summerlong" was mixed by John McEntire (STEREOLAB, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, TORTOISE) at his newly minted Portland Soma Studios and mastered by Amy Dragon at Telegraph Mastering, also based in Portland.
Today's tune "Wildflowers" taken from "Summerlong", enjoy!
Monday new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
Then it was time for a record that has been on my shopping list for about half a year, a brave attempt was made last fall but unfortunately got the answer after a long wait, it was out of stock. But now it is finally on its way and hopes it rolls in nicely next week. I'm talking about the Portland, Oregon based five-piece Goth rockers IDLE HANDS latest release "Mana", I record that I have been played on Spotify a lot during a long time and have been starting to write a review, but you know how things can be, easily left aside for something else that's hot in mind.
IDLE HANDS was formed 2017 by the main man Gabriel Franco (vocals), after leaving his former band SPELLCASTER, IDLE HANDS plays an interesting mix of Goth Rock and Heavy Metal, It's like a lovely mix of THE MISSION, THE CURE, and IRON MAIDEN. The Gothic aesthetics have been enjoying a glorious comeback in the world of rock music and metal.
"Mana" is a very well made album, catchy tunes that get stuck right on the forehead like a piece of Gaffa tape. The album contains many excellent tunes, like the killer opening track "Nightfall" which sets the barrier for the rest of the album already after a few winks. The tune is a catchy piece about the ghouls lurking in the night during the Devils time. Gabriel Franco's vocals are just brilliant and very charming, resolute and leading throughout the record. The musicians Sebastian Silva doing a great job on the guitar together with Franco. Brandon Hill on the bass keeps a steady and well-executed bassline and works well with the drummer Colin Vranizan who plays catchy and tight. Thundering guitars open up "Cosmic Overdrive", another upbeat piece with exciting fills a little here and there that makes this tune a remembered one. Same goes with the upbeat tune "Give Me To The Night", heavy guitars and a catchy chorus. Regarding the catchy tunes, there is serval like "Blade And The Will", the suicide piece "Double Negative" or the dreamy "Dragon, Why Do You Cry", what do you dream about? I dream about Dragons! "Don’t Waste Your Time" is a downtempo tune with a nice harmony with an accelerating end. "It’ll Be Over Before You Know It" its a slow and stripped down piece that shows the emotional side of the band, beautiful guitar work. "A Single Solemn Rose" is another great tune that flows forward in a great tempo and states that you should be careful what you wish for, you never know if it will come true. The album closes with title tune "Mana", a personal piece rounds this superb debut. Excellent compositions that feel very natural and partly really epic at times and if I would have own the psychical album when the year was summarized this would be the best debut of 2019. The future looks really bright for this band and I'm really looking forward to the next release.
Sum: "Mana" is a really exciting and impressive debut.
Line-up
Gabriel Franco – Vocals/Guitar
Sebastian Silva – Guitar
Brandon Hill – Bass
Colin Vranizan – Drums

Returning like a phantom four years after "Darkness Evermore" enveloped the planet, the all-consuming thunderstorm that is NIGHTFELLs third album "A Sanity Deranged" is loosed upon a world in fractured turmoil. A dark metal dirge of madness, an anthem to those immemorial and a sonic bloodletting of vitriol and contempt, "A Sanity Deranged" is NIGHTFELL at its most spitefully deliberate.
"A Sanity Deranged" is a pinnacle to this point of the disparate sounds that shape the cohesive discordance of NIGHTFELL. Slicing ice-cold texture cuts like obsidian glass amidst the monumental death crush and grim wallow of doomed dejection. The heart has remained as defiant and vigilant as ever, but the old flesh has been shed and a beast reborn rears forth— jaws dripping, teeth-gnashing, shedding the withered exoskeleton for an adherent body.
Recorded and mixed together with Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios (HIGH ON FIRE, ASUNDER, VASTUM, ULTHAR) with additional instrumentation and vocals tracked by Billy Anderson (NEUROSIS, MELVINS, etc), the duo of NIGHTFELL evoke their most dense and dynamic recording yet. A sharpened blade of iron and steel forged in the fires of tumult, "A Sanity Deranged" is the annihilating vanguard for the end times now upon us all.
NIGHTFELL are:
Todd Burdette - Guitar, Bass, Vocals
Tim Call - Drums, Vocals
Today's tune "No Life Leaves Here" is taken from the laster and 3:rd album "A Sanity Deranged", released by 20 Buck Spin on September 11, 2019, enjoy!
The Portland, Oregon, doomers WITCH MOUNTAIN have unveiled "Priceless Pain", which is the first studio recording they’ve had since their self-titled LP last year.
The new tune is a screamy piece with Kayla Dixon on vocals. WITCH MOUNTAIN recently made a tour in the states with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY.
“When I first heard the music for "Priceless Pain", I instantly knew what I wanted the song to be about, writes vocalist Kayla Dixon.
“I had recently been viscerally affected by the (not so new) news of the Amazon rainforest burning. I however sadly, wasn’t surprised. Humanity has, in a very short amount of time, almost completely ravaged this earth. I was even less surprised when I found out that the fires were caused by ‘controlled’ burns to clear way for cattle ranching. According to the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies website, ‘Cattle ranching is the largest driver of deforestation in every Amazon country, accounting for 80% of current deforestation rates.’ Many of us want to believe that we’re not alone in this universe, yet the idea of extraterrestrial life frightens some of us. In this song, I want to urge the listener to consider the ‘why’ behind that fear. Might it be that our fear is caused by the conscience that we’ve buried so deep within ourselves that we hardly recognize it? If you reduce earth’s existence down to 46 years, you’ll realize that humans have been on this planet for 4 hours. That would mean that we have managed to destroy about half of the earth’s forests in one minute. This song is my best guess at what might happen if we were visited by a more intelligent and sophisticated species. I believe we’d been seen as a cancer and swiftly removed. My hope is that people will read these lyrics and make changes to their lives on an individual scale to contribute to fixing what we’ve broken.”
Today's tune "Priceless Pain" is the latest single. It was released September 20, 2019. Video was Animated and Directed by Don Noble. Enjoy!
Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".
"111" is the debut album by the four-piece Portland, Oregon’s HIPPIE DEATH CULT.
HIPPIE DEATH CULT is infectious 70’s hard rock blues, a doom-infused stoner rock band that turns our heads so severely it nearly causes cervical fracture and hemophilia so you need some blood thinners to keep up with the tunes. References of this mind-blowing musical creations could be daring a mix between SOUNDGARDEN and BLACK SABBATH.
Featuring guitar player, Eddie Brnabic, Laura Phillips on bass, Ryan Moore on drums, and Ben Jackson on vocals and keys.
"Sanctimonious" starts off "111" with a crunching heaviness, trippy guitar loop, hazy drumming, and distorted bass along with a soulful vocals in a 70’s hard rock style that sounds just love fully in my ears. This follows up with some attidude in "Breeder’s Curse", a straight up rocker with load riffs and anger. "Unborn" is a Blusey Doom piece, heavy riffage, melancholic lyrics with heartbreaking vocals makes this one a top tune on the album. The beautiful instrumental tune "Mrtyu" takes the middle place on the album, makes a nice pause in the heavyness and allows the listner to change the position in your favorit chair before we step into face two with the tune "Pigs" where the surroundings fluttering to the heavy tones of the SABBATH-like riffs echoing in the room. "Treehugger" is another high level on the album where you will get heavy half paced riffage with a classic southern touch until it shows it's days and speeds up to a real rocker with both screams and a neety guitar solo. The album closes with the longest tune "Black Snake", a melodic rocker of psychedelic Doom/Stoner, passionate guitar orgies that ending on an exciting finish, so really, take a second and give it the due attention.
"111" was released to buy on Digital from July 26th 2019 and on Vinyl from August 23rd via Cursed Tongue Records.
Sum: "111" is an excelent debut from front to back.
Today's tune "Black Snake" is taken from the debut album "111", enjoy!

From the darkness, UADA (meaning haunted in Latin) emerges breathing the spirit of the original 90’s Black Metal wave. Since 2014, this Portland, Oregon four-piece has used a unique approach to combine raw black metal and spectral melodies.
They seemed to arrive out of nowhere in 2016—faces veiled and clad in leather jackets. The Portland quartet blindsided black metal audiences with their debut album, "Devoid of Light". They had nothing, no demos or EPs, not even a homemade Cassette that was spreading all over like a disease, just a bunch of shows in which they played their early stuff. This is not something we are used to these days, especially in the black metal scene where a lot of bands build their name on raw demos.
Now, on their much-anticipated second full-length album, "Cult of A Dying Sun", the band shows that they can repeat their success more than once.
Jake Superchi - Vocals/Guitar
James Sloan - Guitar
Josiah Babcock - Drums
Edward Halpin - Bass
Today's tune "Cult Of A Dying Sun" is one of the most furious tracks they've released to date. The tune was filmed on the active stratovolcano Mt. St. Helens (Louwala-Clough) in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest - Skamania County, Washington. Including Iron Creek Falls, Windy Ridge Viewpoint, Norway Pass & Spirit Lake. The tune is the title track of UADA's second album, enjoy!
TAR PIT is a American dark and heavy doom metal from Portland.
"Tomb Of Doom" is the first full length release by TAR PIT, set to be release March 1, 2019 on pysichical format. A spin on the digital format it sounds really good. The doom factor is high on "Tomb Of Doom" which is worth to look up. I hope a Vinly release will come, so far only Cassette and CD is up for sale on the bands bandcamp.
TAR PIT is:
Mathew Ortega - Vox
Brandon Martinez-Woodall - Guitar
Stephen Hoffman - Lead Guitar
Hayden Johnson - Bass & Additional vox
Derek Johnson - Drums
Today's tune is the title tune "Tomb Of Doom", enjoy!
"Tomb Of Doom", Live @Ash Street Saloon Portland, OR 11/9/2017,
The Portland doom metal band WITCH MOUNTAIN released their 5th and self-titled album earlier this year.
Formed in 1997, WITCH MOUNTAIN recorded a demo, released their first full-length album, and toured both nationally and locally. After a 2002 tour with ETERNAL ELYSIUM, the band slowed activity while Rob and Dave attended to their respective families and their other band Iommi Stubbs, and Nate worked on other musical collaborations and his booking agency, Nanotear. The 2016 single and today's tune “Burn You Down” was a good hint of how the new record should sound like and finally, in 2018, the fifth self-titled album got released.
WITCH MOUNTAIN still maintains total artistic control. The band is self-managed, self-booked, and owns its entire back catalog.
WITCH MOUNTAIN are:
Rob Wrong (Guitar)
Nathan Carson (Percussion)
Kayla Dixon (Vocals)
Justin Brown (Bass)
Witch Mountain perform "Burn You Down" live at Ceremony Of Sludge VI at The High Water Mark, Portland, Oregon on March 11, 2017.
"When It´s Over" is a tune by American punk rock band WIPERS, taken from the second studio album "Youth of America". It was released in 1981 by record label Park Avenue.
The album marked a distinctive change in the band's sound. Compared to its predecessor, Is This Real?, which was composed mostly of raw, sleek and relatively traditional songs, "Youth of America" featured much longer and complex compositions; the title track alone clocks in at over 10 minutes. According to frontman Greg Sage, this change of pace was a deliberate counter-reaction against the trend of releasing short songs, which many punk bands did at the time.
The Quietus noted the album's genre as post-punk and further described its style as "a six track set of lowly garage rock which traverses the cosmos irrespective. Secondly, it's a gothic downer but leavened by motion and momentum thanks to its krautrock influences. And lastly it's a grittily real punk record defined by an unerring air of unreality – as unromantic as it is fantastical"
In its retrospective review, Consequence of Sound wrote, "From its style of production and songwriting to its driving, angular guitar work coupled with anthemic hooks, Youth of America is as strong and fresh-sounding today as it was 30 years ago". The Quietus wrote "there may be more essential punk albums out there but never again did the genre sound so searching". Head Heritage called it "an enduring legacy of a recording."
"Youth of America" was later reissued on record labels Backbone and Restless, with different covers for each, and on Sage's own Zeno Records as the second disc of the WIPERS Box Set, albeit with a different running order to the original vinyl issue.
WIPERS was a punk rock group formed in Portland, Oregon in 1977 by guitarist Greg Sage, along with drummer Sam Henry and bassist Dave Koupal. The group's tight song structure and use of heavy distortion were hailed as extremely influential by numerous critics and musicians. The band is considered the first Pacific Northwest punk band.
Along with other WIPERS records, "Youth of America" has since come to be acknowledged as an important album in the development of American underground and independent rock movements of the early 1980s. Thurston Moore of SONIC YOUTH cited the album as an inspiration and covered the track "Pushing the Extreme" with Keith Nealy for WIPERS tribute album Fourteen Songs for Greg Sage and The Wipers.
The title track was covered by the MELVINS on their 2001 album "Electroretard and Mission of Burma" on the live album "Snapshot". Kurt Cobain listed it in his top 50 albums of all time.
Today's tune "When It´s Over" is one of two anthems that appears on "Youth of America". This six-minute-plus, near-instrumental opus features Greg Sage's distinctive guitar style constructing an intricate, grandiose musical workout. The band -- known for their maverick, outsider image and a disdain for recording studios -- recorded the song in the basement of a rented house, giving the sound an overall grungy, dense sound. With only a few scant lyrics, the tune relies heavily on instrumental dynamics, building tension with long layers of ascending chords. Sage's trembling guitar, fed through a whirling Leslie organ speaker, lends the track its most distinctive character, at times having the feel of an old, twisted roller-rink ditty.
From the darkness, UADA (meaning haunted in latin) emerges breathing the spirit of the original 90’s Black Metal wave. Since 2014, this Portland, Oregon four-piece has used a unique approach to combine raw black metal and spectral melodies.
January 24th, 2015 saw the live debut appearance for a packed house at ‘Famine Fest II in Portland, alongside bands like TERRORIZER, ENGORGED, NEKROFILTH, DRAWN & QUARTERED, CEMETERY LUST & many more. UADA was well received & quickly dubbed one of the main highlights of the Festival. Following their first and only photo shoot with Peter Beste, UADA returned fire in Portland at the 6th Northwestern Black Circle Festival with INQUISITION, DEMONCY, WEREGOAT, SLUTVOMIT & many more. This first year included 10 additional showings in the Pacific Northwest with ANTAEUS, NEGURA BUNGET, BELL WITCH, CHRISTIAN MISTRESS, SABBATH ASSEMBLY and more.
Vinyl version, to bad it's already sold out, would like to get my hands a copy of this.
In spring 2016, their debut album "Devoid of Light" was released via Eisenwald, self-recorded by the band & then mastered by Joel Grind (TOXIC HOLOCAUST). It features the artwork of Kris Verwimp and band photography by Peter Beste. In support of this new album, UADA is confirmed to play the Northwestern Black Circle Festival again, this time with ABSU and will mark the kick off date for a west coast tour.
Thanks Chief Rebel for the tip on this band, they are freaking good.
Today's tune is the title track from the debut album "Devoid of Light".
