Kate Bush - This Woman's Work

"This Woman's Work" is a song written and performed by the British singer Kate Bush. It was originally featured on the soundtrack of the American film "She's Having a Baby" (1988). The song was released as the second single from her album "The Sensual World". A tune that could fit as a classic, but have been repearing and fixing today with Kate Bush so why not continue with some music from her.

The lyric of "This Woman's Work" is about being forced to confront an unexpected and frightening crisis during the normal event of childbirth. Written for the film "She's Having a Baby", director John Hughes used the song during the film's dramatic climax, when Jake (Kevin Bacon) learns that the lives of his wife, Kristy (Elizabeth McGovern), and their unborn child are in danger. As the song plays, a montage sequence of flashbacks is displayed, showing the couple in happier times, intercut with shots of him waiting for news of Kristy and their baby's condition. Bush wrote the song specifically for the sequence, writing from a man's (Jake's) viewpoint and matching the words to the visuals which had already been filmed.

The version of the song that was featured on "The Sensual World" was re-edited from the original version featured on the film's soundtrack. The version released as a single was a third, slightly alternate mix.

"This Woman's Work" is one of several songs that were completely re-recorded on her 2011 album Director's Cut. The new version features a sparse performance of Bush singing and playing piano.

The music video for "This Woman's Work", which was directed by Bush herself, starts with Bush, spotlighted in an otherwise black room, playing the introductory notes on a piano. In the next scene, a distraught man (played by Tim McInnerny) is pacing in the waiting room of a hospital. It is then revealed through flashbacks that his wife (played by Bush) has collapsed while they were having dinner. The story blurs into a continuous scene where he carries her to the car, a desperate race to the hospital, and his wife being wheeled away on a stretcher as he races in behind her. While waiting, the husband is wracked with fear and imagines his wife in happier times, kissing him in the rain, and even imagines the nurse coming to tell him she has died. The nurse then pulls him out of his reverie, as she reassuringly puts her hand on his shoulder and tells him about his wife's situation, though we cannot hear what she is saying. The final scene of the video returns to Bush as she silently covers the piano keyboard.

Enjoy today's tune!

Refused - Elektra

REFUSED are back again. Their latest album, The Shape of Punk to Come, released in 1998. After a reunion tour in 2012 saw it a long time as it once was over for the influential hardcore band.

Now REFUSED announce their first album in 17 years. Freedom released on June 30, was produced by Nick Launay (ARCADE FIRE, KATE BUSH, NICK CAVE), and two of the songs; Elektra and 366, was written together with the Swedish producer duo Shellback previously written hits for (uh ...) BRITNEY SPEARS and TAYLOR SWIFT.

"It's no longer a question about a reunion," says the band's lead singer Dennis Lyxzén. "This is perhaps the most radical we've ever done, both musically and lyrically."

REFUSED is a Swedish hardcore punk band originating from Umeå, formed in 1991. In total the band released five EPs and three full-length albums before originally splitting up in 1998. Refused is composed of vocalist Dennis Lyxzén, guitarist Kristofer Steen, drummer David Sandström and bassist Magnus Flagge. Guitarist Jon Brännström was a member from 1994, through reunions, until being fired late 2014. Their lyrics are often of a non-conformist and politically far-left nature

Anna von Hausswolff - Mountains Crave

Stockholm is a city that comes to life in summer and the island of Skeppsholmen, surrounded by the city’s glittering water landscapes, lies at the heart of this yearly event. Acting as a cultural hub for both Sweden and Scandinavia, Stockholm is a city well deserving of its own international music festival. Stockholm Music & Arts is that festival and with food, drink and great company we will celebrate the city, summer, art and music in a distinctive urban archipelago setting.

Continuing the tradition of Skeppsholm’s Festival, Stockholm Jazz & Blues and Sthlm Jazz Fest, Stockholm Music & Arts aim to provide a high quality program that is both ambitious and unique that will help expand the musical and cultural horizons of our nation’s capital. From August 3-5, 2012, Stockholm Music & Arts will offer a program that combines intelligent art with distinct musical artistry – some of the best Sweden and the world have to offer.

Today, we do some advertising for the festival and play a song from one of the participants who had been quite hot in the media and among friends.

Anna Von Hausswolff was born 6 September 1986 in Gothenburg, Sweden. She is a singer, pianist and songwriter. She released her debut single, "Track of Time", on 5 February 2010, followed by the debut album Singing from the Grave. The album was very well received by the Swedish press. She played on the Way Out West Festival in 2009. In March 2010 she warmed up for Tindersticks on three occasions. She has also warmed up for Lykke Li on her tour 2011 for three occasions, and for M.Ward at the royal theatre Dramaten in Stockholm. She was on a tour in Brazil September 2010 together with Taken by trees, and Taxi taxi! She has also played at several big festivals in Sweden such as Peace and Love, Storsjöyran, Way out west, Arvika, and Made festival. Hausswolff is noted for her expressive voice and her live performances and is often compared to Kate Bush.

Vinyl version of Ceremony.

Todays tune "Mountains Crave" is the first single of the new album Ceremony. Release 18th July.
