A seasoned troubadour from down South with a dense, rich, and colorful life experience, Rex Brown is far greater than the sum total of his already impressive discography as it’s been laid down. Stepping out as a frontman for the first time, Rex reintroduces himself to the world on his barn-burning debut solo album, " Smoke On This".

Rex Brown is an American musician and author, who is best known as having been the longtime bassist for the Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling, now defunct band PANTERA (1982–2003). He is a former member of DOWN (2001–2011), and is currently the bassist for the band KILL DEVIL HILL. He released his debut solo album "Smoke On This" on July 28, 2017. For the first time in Brown's career, the work features him not only as a bassist but also as lead vocalist and guitarist.

Down - Witchtripper

Feels a bit sometimes like I have been stuck in a tray, where the tones will repeat itself. It's a bit like that it has been with my posts recently and it will probably be so a few more days, yes! I will break the pattern soon, but not quite yet, too much good stuff in the pipeline. Some posts, or rather fragments of an upcoming post lie and wait, including today's tune. It has been in the cave and potholing a little bit and when I read a blog entry from Steelgarden, I became eager to pick it up it today.

Down is an American sludge metal band that formed in 1991 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist Phil Anselmo, guitarist Pepper Keenan, guitarist Kirk Windstein, bassist Pat Bruders and drummer Jimmy Bower. Since their formation, Down has gone on hiatus twice. To date, Down has released three studio albums, NOLA (1995), Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow (2002), and Down III: Over the Under (2007). Since 2008, the band has been working on new material, which will result in four separate EPs instead of an album; the first, entitled Down IV Part I – The Purple EP, was released on September 18, 2012. The band plans to release a series of EPs over the next few years.

Todays tune "Witchtripper" is taken from Down IV Part I – The Purple EP, which is the first EP. It is the first album featuring bassist Pat Bruders due to the departure of former bassist Rex Brown in 2011.

Kill Devil Hill - Strange

Kill Devil Hill are newly formed band that mixes strong guitar hooks, the killer grooves, the dynamic production or the potent vocal melodies.

Kill Devil Hill concists of Rex Brown (Down, Pantera) - bass, Vinny Appice (Heaven & Hell, Black Sabbath, Dio) – drums, Mark Zavon (Ratt, W.A.S.P.) – guitar and Dewey Bragg (Pissing Razors) – vocals.

Kill Devil Hill played their first gig back in April 2011, followed by a 5-week tour in October to test audience reactions. Without relying on the familiarity of Black Sabbath or Pantera covers, the band was able to win over audiences after just the first few songs. The band states that “We’ve never experienced that with a band at such an early stage.” Anyway, take a listen on todays tune "Strange", taken from the debut record.

Corrosion of Conformity - The Moneychangers

Corrosion of Conformity (also known as C.O.C.) is one of the first punk-metal fusion bands, were formed in North Carolina by guitarist Woody Weatherman during the early '80s. In their early years, C.O.C. became known for their aggressive sound, intelligent political lyrics, and willingness to break away from both hardcore and metal conventions. In the '90s, their shift to a more stripped-down, deliberate sound, sort of Black Sabbath filtered through the Deep South, brought them enough in line with the alternative metal Zeitgeist to bring them a measure of mainstream popularity.

For almost the majority of its existence, the band has consisted of guitarist Woody Weatherman, bassist Mike Dean (who left in 1987 but rejoined six years later), drummer Reed Mullin (who left in 2001 but rejoined nine years later) and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Pepper Keenan (who joined the band in 1989). After a hiatus in 2006, Corrosion of Conformity returned in 2010, without Keenan who is currently in Down (although it has been disputed whether Keenan has left the band).

To date, Corrosion of Conformity has released eighth studio albums, two EPs, one compilation, and one live album. Three independent albums, Eye for an Eye (1984), Animosity (1985) and Blind (1991), attracted the attention of Columbia Records, who signed the band in 1993. They released Deliverance, their most successful album to date, in 1994. Their next three albums, Wiseblood (1996), America's Volume Dealer (2000) and In the Arms of God (2005) were also critically acclaimed. Their latest studio album, Corrosion of Conformity, was released in February 2012.

Todays tune "The Moneychangers" is taken from the eponymously-titled eighth studio album "Corrosion of Conformity", which was released on February 28, 2012 by Candlelight Records. It is Corrosion of Conformity's first album since In the Arms of God (2005), their longest gap to date between studio albums. It is also the band's first album with Reed Mullin on drums since 2000's America's Volume Dealer and the first to not feature Pepper Keenan on vocals and guitar since 1987's Technocracy. Enjoy!
