Dismember - Dreaming In Red

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Dreaming In Red" is a tune by the Swedish death metal DISMEMBER, taken from the second album "Indecent & Obscene" by Dismember. The album is accompanied by two music videos for the tracks "Skinfather" and "Dreaming in Red". It's also their best-selling album to this day.

Like many of the other Scandinavian death metal bands, DISMEMBER began softening their sound in the mid-1990s, with 1995's "Massive Killing Capacity" more melodic approaches, which had a good public response. Nevertheless, they attempted a return to style with 1997's "Death Metal", which ultimately became a sales disappointment. Their last album for Nuclear Blast was 2000's "Hate Campaign".

Anyway, enjoy today's tune "Dreaming In Red"

The Dagger - Ahead Of You All

THE DAGGER is a hard rock/heavy metal band from Stockholm, Sweden formed in 2009 by Fred Estby, David Blomqvist, Tobias Cristiansson and Tyrant, who are or have previously been involved in bands such as DISMEMBER, GRAVE or NECRONAUT. After auditioning several possible singers and seeing Tyrant exiting the band, Jani Kataja (MANGROVE, SIDEBURN) joined the fold as vocalist by the end of 2012.

While there certainly was a revival of 70’s rock and traditional 80’s metal in recent years, THE DAGGER thought many acts around lacked the right feeling and sound, so they set out to create real classic hard rock / heavy metal rooted in blues rock and perform it simply the way they like to hear it themselves. THE DAGGER stands for eagerly rehearsing, jamming, recording live and writing songs as a unit resulting in an authentic and captivating approach.

The group’s debut 7” single (released via High Roller Records in Summer 2013) and the upcoming “S/T” debut album were recorded at Gutterview Recorders (owned by Fred Estby and Nicke Andersson) in Stockholm, where bands like IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC, ’77, BULLET and MORBUS CHRON already recorded their material.

While legendary acts such as early IRON MAIDEN, DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST and RAINBOW obviously left their mark on THE DAGGER, the band does not rely on just resurrecting the 70’s/80’s era of hard rock but focus on quality throughout the entire album offering heavy to-the-point riffing, strong vocal melodies and twin guitar harmonies in spades.

Inspired by the gods … destined to deliver the goods!

• Jani Kataja (ex-SIDEBURN, MANGROVE) - Vocals
• Fred Estby (NECRONAUT, ex-DISMEMBER) -- Drums
• David Blomqvist (ex-DISMEMBER) - Electric Guitar
• Tobias Cristiansson (GRAVE, ex-DISMEMBER) - Electric Bass
• Robert Pehrsson (ROBERT PEHRSSON'S HUMBUCKER, DEATH BREATH) - Electric Guitar

Today's tune "Ahead Of You All" is taken from the self titled debut album, enjoy!

The Dagger performing Ahead of You All. First act at the Close-Up Boat Thursday September 18th 2014. Poor sound quality, pure awesomeness.

Dismember - Override Of The Overture

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Override of the Overture" is the opening track on "Like an Ever Flowing Stream", the debut album by Swedish death metal band DISMEMBER, released in May 1991. The title may refer to the Biblical Book of Amos 5:24, "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream" (New International Version). A music video was made for the track "Soon to Be Dead".

Since Karmageddon records owns the rights to the album, it wasn't re-issued as a digipack disc in 2005 like every other album (except for Where Ironcrosses Grow). Regain re-issued those digipack versions and also remastered the albums while Karmageddon released an exact copy of the 1996 issue by Nuclear Blast (except for two additional bonus tracks).

DISMEMBER line up on "Like an Ever Flowing Stream"

Matti Kärki - Vocals
Robert Senneback - Guitar
David Blomqvist - Guitar, Lead Guitar on Track 1
Richard Diamon - Bass
Fred Estby - Drums

Nicke Andersson, at the time the drummer in ENTOMBED played all the lead guitars except for the guitar solo on "Override of the Overture", which is played by David Blomqvist.

Like an Ever Flowing Stream is today heralded as a milestone for the burgeoning Swedish death metal scene and established the band's fanbase, which was further bolstered by the controversy surrounding one song in particular, "Skin Her Alive". The song prompted an obscenity charge in the United Kingdom, against which the band successfully defended themselves.

DISMEMBER was a Swedish death metal band that formed in Stockholm 1988. They split up in October 2011.

The Resistance - Clearing The Slate

Todays tune might hurt as we have some first class in your face death metal, uncompromising and brutal like a karate chop. Luckily we are talking music and not physical violence. But pure and severe energetic music. We are talking The Resistance. The Swedish Extreme Metal band The Resistance's debut album was released May 10th, 2013. A first tour in selected major markets coincides with the date of release for "Scars", presenting the band to fans and media with full force.

The 12-track album is a pure reminiscence to the good old days of Swedish death metal back in the 80s/90s when berserk bands like Entombed, Grave or Dismember proved how insanely brutal and relentless, yet immensely captivating and technically adept extreme music can be. Well, apparently some established Swedish musicians did miss them, so they put things right: They brought back the old Swedish Death Metal.

"If you listen to Entombed's "Left Hand Path" today, it still blows everything away. And it's over 20 years old," says Jesper Strömblad, main musical force behind Stockholm/Gothenburg based squad The Resistance, about an album classic that still gives him the shivers after all those years. Hang on a second: Jesper Strömblad? Rings a bell, doesn't it? Indeed, it's the former In Flames guitar player and founding member who quit the band in 2010 after 17 long and exhausting years.

But it is not all about Jesper in The Resistance. The band members' "CV" is as heavy as the sound of their new musical adventure. The four Swedish musicians carry a great legacy in the long Scandinavian extreme metal tradition. Jesper Strömblad, of course, is one of the "columns" of the huge Resistance sound. Together with Jesper, we find another ex member of In Flames - Glenn Ljungström, vocalist Marco Aro (ex-The Haunted, Facedown) and drummer Chris Barkensjö (ex-Kaamos, ex-Grave).

The Resistance will definitely be one of the extreme metal bands in 2013. A first insight into the band's sound was already serviced a few weeks ago when the critically acclaimed teaser- EP "Rise From Treason" was heralding the extreme metal year and blew away fans and media just alike.

The raw energy and brutal sound of "Scars" will be released on CD (as an elaborated digi-pack), on classic vinyl as well as a download. "Scars" is featuring brand new, never before released songs only.

The Resistance is:
Marco Aro - vocals
Jesper Strömblad - guitar
Glenn Ljungström - guitar
Chris Barkensjö - drums
Claudio Oyarzo - bass

Todays tune "Clearing The Slate" is the first official music video by The Resistance, taken from the new album "Scars".
